Ever since my sister recommended to try Yabu, I'm always craving for it. This is one of the best Japanese food chain in the metro and I will never get tired of it even though it has a hefty price.

The Katsura set makes this place a unique place to feast on Japanese food! There's unlimited rice and sidings, but I appreciate more on the fruits!

Great food. Consistent food and consistent service. Can't get enough of Yabu when in Manila.

Yabu is one of the, if not the main, juggernauts when it comes to the Filipino realm of katsu.

It's 8 pieces and after 6 I'm already full. Tempura was nothing special. Came with 4 pieces of shrimp tempura and one piece of okra tempura and miso soup. The food isn't amazing but it's not bad! Definitely satisfies my futo maki craving. I think it's a great place for big groups. It's not the cheapest Japanese restaurant maybe it's better even just go to a buffet like Sambokujin. But it's location is easy to get to and I'm satisfied after the meal. I'll be back and hopefully I part ways with my futo maki and get a different dish. :)

Castor, it's across the 24-hour Family Mart and is near Afters Espresso and Dessert. Parking is a little bit difficult. It seems like they don't have the same valet service as the Makati branches. Compared to the other branches, this new one is definitely more brightly lit and spacious. They still have the bar seating and booth seating on the first floor. Then there are more booths on the second floor, along with some private rooms for groups. If you're having a hard time choosing your order, the bento boxes offer great value for money and allow you to try a handful of dishes. I'm always a fan of their shrimp tempura, fish tempura, their soba and the spicy tuna maki. I did notice, however, that the spicy tuna maki in this branch seems to be smaller in size than the Makati branches. In any case, it's still really good stuff. This branch also offers the grilled items that you can grill at your table. I personally like the US Karubi and US Rosu. The restaurant was quite busy on a Saturday night so make reservations or prepare to wait in line. It's worth it though!

It had a mushy texture like an aborted congee. Ordered agedashi tofu and the sauce tasted like water with a heavy dose of soy sauce. Also had overdone shrimp tempura. It had the texture of last month's frozen shrimp. The service was acceptable though.

But he said he wanted us to eat out, and we were "Uhm, we're not really sure we can." We were a little tight on the budget that time. And he goes "Let's go to Kimpura, my treat." So we're "Yeah! Let's eat out!" PROS: Teppanyaki is a really great way to eat Japanese food because you see the expert chef cook your sumptuous food right in front of your table and then serve it right away. It's mesmerizing, like watching Masterchef, seeing the sautéing and mixing and the occasional whoosh of fire; The food is freshly made and delicious. My personal favorite would be their fried rice; The staff were friendly. They even gave Heart Broken Friend a try at cooking the teppanyaki (all he did was stir the meat around). CONS: I think our bill reached P5,000.00 then. It's totally pricey, but I guess our friend didn't mind. We ordered a lot too and ended up with leftovers. TL;DR: If you're up for paying a lot for a fun teppanyaki experience, try Kimpura out. It's Manila's best teppanyaki.

Recently, I've tried their Mt. Fuji Roll which has deep-fried tuna, unagi, and cream cheese. The taste is eel-ectrifying (ha!). I like how the mild taste of the cream cheese balances out the saltiness of the tuna and unagi. Aside from the usual fare of sashimi and maki, I almost always go for teriyaki chicken when eating at Japanese restaurants. Omakase's teriyaki chicken is good; it has that smokey, savory flavor that's important in teriyaki chicken, though I guess it's a little too sweet. With its intimate setting, I'd consider it a great place to go to when with family or friends. If you're going in a large group, try the Sushi Boat but prepare to go a little overboard (another ha!) on your budget.
