This shuttle service is unfortunately one of the worst customer service experiences that I have…read moreever had. The getting to LAX was fine and when she dropped me off, I said, "see you on Thursday at 11". Margo Stanley, the owner, said it was supposed to be 8. I didn't think too much about it until t was the day before my return. I texted and gave my flight information about my flight and my arrival was 11:30 am. She didn't respond that until 3:47 am which I wouldn't receive until I awoke. So I read the message stating that I had said 8:51 AM when I confirmed, which is true. Ms. Stanley simply stated that she had other appointments scheduled around my original pick up time and she couldn't wait two and half hours for me. No let me ask my other pick up if they want to go eat so we can kill some time. I would've even paid for it. Or even worse, it was a drop off and Ms. Stanley alone wouldn't wait. Overall, just not a person that should be in customer service. She didn't care one iota that I would be stuck there. Ultimately, this means if your plane is delayed for any reason, Margo Stanley, will not be inconvenienced to wait for you. If you want to put that much faith not only in the airline to get you there in time you must pray that Ms. Stanleys other schedules remain intact. Here are the texts which is where our state of humanity is.

I used to take route 130 quite often, and it was much better when the route only traveled between Bakersfield and Frazier Park. By stretching the route to cover Santa Clarita, the wait in for the next bus home has become way way too long. I had a 1pm doctor appointment in Bakersfield. The latest departure time from Frazier Park to reach my appointment was 8:40 am, which got me into Bakersfield 3 hours early. The earliest departure time for home was 5 pm. The money I saved taking the bus was spent at the businesses I had to camp in while waiting for my next trip home. It isn't ethical to sit in a restaurant or coffee shop for 3-6 hours without giving them business. This doesn't help someone trying to save his money for more necessary things. It was an 8 hour slot for a 1 hour appointment. Double the time if I drove, and the same cost. The money I saved on gas, I spent on food as rent during my very long wait. Good thing I brought several books. If Kern Transit either added a 2nd bus for Santa Clarita, or left it off the routes entirely, it would make more frequent trips to and from Bakersfield possible, and make me more inclined to use it again.

Westside Parkway is like a dream for those needing to quickly get to the center of Bakersfield from…read morethe West side. No more struggling with traffic on Rosedale Highway and that dreaded train that occasionally just stops on the tracks (you know what I'm talking about!). The Westside Parkway (which is one of the first Parkway's I can ever remember in Bakersfield!) has been a long time in the making and finally opened to traffic August 2, 2013. The final segment was opened to traffic on April 15, 2015. This all concrete Parkway is smooth and so easy to drive on. Just be very careful of the cops parked on the entrances (especially the one west facing on the Mohawk entrance!). The road is so smooth sometimes you'll forget how fast you're really going. I believe that eventually, the Parkway will connect with the 99. There's been quite a few homes and buildings which have, sadly, been torn down to make way for the new connection. Hopefully, though, this will continue to eleviate the traffic issues that continues to plague Bakersfield as our community grows.

The first is probably the most important to anyone reading this - it is that it is still a very…read morereasonably priced method of travel. I also love that I have a table. I can sit at and write or eat something or play a game with someone who is with me instead of having to focus on traffic and being uncomfortable about not being able to change my seating posture for a long trip. I like the fact that I can go get a snack whenever I want to, and start up a conversation with a stranger and to make a new friend. That's what I think you want to hear when you want a review, but I want to tell you another special thing about why I love Amtrak. The sound of the train is something I have loved and that has comforted me from the first time I ever heard it when I was a child, until I bought my first house and discovered that there was a train track right on the other side of a fence that was 8 feet from my house. I learned later that the realtors were supposed to tell you that, but I was young and dumb. I had no idea of that. I was a newlywed and that happened the first night we slept there. It rattled the ground and knocked pictures and clocks off of the walls and terrified my husband and I, thinking it was an earthquake, until we heard the horn. Then we looked at each other and laughed and responded that same way as long as we lived in that house. I missed it for the longest time until many many years later I moved into a senior mobile home park that was nearby a train track, and I was thrilled to hear a train the first night I spent there. I was there five years and smiled every time I heard that that and felt my walls rattle. Between those two experiences, I had a Red Hat Society group for 12 years and we used to take the Amtrak train from Bakersfield to Hanford and spend the day there at different events they put on in the Civic Park, and then Fred the antique fire truck would pick us up and drop us back off at the train station and we would have fun riding home sharing the rolling adventures we had had that day. But the trips there and back themselves were also very fun because there were a few very sweet conductors who played with us and let us take pictures of them with us, and even tried on our hats and let them take pictures of them with us, and that kind of thing. We were a very silly and fun-loving group and we loved that! That's been many many years ago and I wish I could find those pictures...
