The first is probably the most important to anyone reading this - it is that it is still a very…read morereasonably priced method of travel. I also love that I have a table. I can sit at and write or eat something or play a game with someone who is with me instead of having to focus on traffic and being uncomfortable about not being able to change my seating posture for a long trip. I like the fact that I can go get a snack whenever I want to, and start up a conversation with a stranger and to make a new friend. That's what I think you want to hear when you want a review, but I want to tell you another special thing about why I love Amtrak. The sound of the train is something I have loved and that has comforted me from the first time I ever heard it when I was a child, until I bought my first house and discovered that there was a train track right on the other side of a fence that was 8 feet from my house. I learned later that the realtors were supposed to tell you that, but I was young and dumb. I had no idea of that. I was a newlywed and that happened the first night we slept there. It rattled the ground and knocked pictures and clocks off of the walls and terrified my husband and I, thinking it was an earthquake, until we heard the horn. Then we looked at each other and laughed and responded that same way as long as we lived in that house. I missed it for the longest time until many many years later I moved into a senior mobile home park that was nearby a train track, and I was thrilled to hear a train the first night I spent there. I was there five years and smiled every time I heard that that and felt my walls rattle. Between those two experiences, I had a Red Hat Society group for 12 years and we used to take the Amtrak train from Bakersfield to Hanford and spend the day there at different events they put on in the Civic Park, and then Fred the antique fire truck would pick us up and drop us back off at the train station and we would have fun riding home sharing the rolling adventures we had had that day. But the trips there and back themselves were also very fun because there were a few very sweet conductors who played with us and let us take pictures of them with us, and even tried on our hats and let them take pictures of them with us, and that kind of thing. We were a very silly and fun-loving group and we loved that! That's been many many years ago and I wish I could find those pictures...

The representative repeatedly interrupted me, spoke with a dismissive tone, and answered questions I did not ask. When I asked whether Golden Empire Transit accepts student IDs for free rides, she refused to look up the information and told me to "Google it myself." She also cut me off when I asked whether routes serve shelters. I remained calm throughout the call. The representative was rude, unhelpful, and unwilling to provide basic transit information or referrals.

They get very annoyed and asked for you to get off their bus rudely or just tell you to go to another bus ... and if you chose to still stay and take their bus with them after being answered rudely and and telling them about it on being not being friendly they drop you off at your destination (yes) but won't pick you after to bring you back home on there saying there bus dosent go the route that you need to go to when it is the route to go for it and lying about it and have the other drivers going in in it. Very horrible experience. Do not recommend this bus transportation.

Westside Parkway is like a dream for those needing to quickly get to the center of Bakersfield from…read morethe West side. No more struggling with traffic on Rosedale Highway and that dreaded train that occasionally just stops on the tracks (you know what I'm talking about!). The Westside Parkway (which is one of the first Parkway's I can ever remember in Bakersfield!) has been a long time in the making and finally opened to traffic August 2, 2013. The final segment was opened to traffic on April 15, 2015. This all concrete Parkway is smooth and so easy to drive on. Just be very careful of the cops parked on the entrances (especially the one west facing on the Mohawk entrance!). The road is so smooth sometimes you'll forget how fast you're really going. I believe that eventually, the Parkway will connect with the 99. There's been quite a few homes and buildings which have, sadly, been torn down to make way for the new connection. Hopefully, though, this will continue to eleviate the traffic issues that continues to plague Bakersfield as our community grows.

The hiring process was excruciating. From the stumbling and stammering ALDO MARTINEZ, to the constantly-on-vacation DIANA (she will find the time to call you without leaving a voicemail. I am quite certain she will call you and let the phone ring once and hang up. No voicemails. No callbacks. Lazy.) I was called in to sign papers with the "approximate" start date, according to Aldo. Turns out, it was a lie and that start date interfered with my schedule. My official start date was rescheduled twice before they probably tossed out my application...which was 100% their fault. What kind of process was this? I already submitted a urine sample and I also took my occupational physical. Awful staff! It took three months to find out they still weren't sure when I could start. I called to complain and I was given an uninterested, "you were not guaranteed a job." I heard a new person is in charge. They need to fire the hiring manager and everyone in those nasty trailers... I mean, their offices. They need better employees. They need employees who can do their jobs and not just blame everything on management. Lazy, incompetent, rude, and they are all a huge waste of time.
