I walked through the doors over three years ago as a blue belt, already competing, but Professor Thiago completely transformed my game. Under his guidance, I elevated my skills to another level and began winning consecutive gold medals across multiple BJJ organizations. Professor Thiago is not only a world-class black belt and competitor, but also an incredible coach who pushes his students to reach their potential--whether you're a competitor or just training for personal growth. The team here is extremely welcoming, but make no mistake--they train hard and push each other to get better every single day. The culture at Torse House is a perfect blend of camaraderie, discipline, and high-level technique. Every class, I feel supported, challenged, and motivated to improve. Choosing Torse House was the best choice I've made in my martial arts journey, and I'm proud to have this team in my corner every time I step on the mats. If you want to grow as a martial artist and be surrounded by people who genuinely want to see you succeed, Torse House is the place to be.

I've been practicing TKD for over 25 years, and I can easily say Master Richard has the best rapport with kids that I've seen. He's engaging, empathetic, fun, and has a great system for making TKD accessible for kids. I've been to a few TKD schools in the LA area, and I appreciate that Master Richard incorporates a well-rounded approach -- it's not just kicking drills and forms, but he introduces students to anti-bullying situations, self-defense, and the 5 Tenants of TKD (courtesy, integrity, perseverance, indomitable spirit, and self-control). Surprisingly, not many TKD schools incorporate the traditional tenants and self-defense these days...it's all about TKD as a sport, but I'm glad to see that ARMA and Master Richard still teach these foundational things.

All of the instructors at the school are great, but especially Master Richard. He lives the tenets of Tae Kwon Do and sets an excellent example. He commands the room better than any coach or teacher I have ever seen, and the kids really like him. Plus, his ability to get every kid's name right every time is impressive. I mess up my own kids' names all the time. My son has now progressed to competition in forms and sparring, and his self-confidence is much improved. I highly recommend joining the studio if/when space opens off the waiting list (3-6 months, last I knew).

There are also weights here. I didn't ask about them, but if you are allowed to use them you may be able to have this place double as your weight gym. At the end of the class I took there was probably roughly about a half hour where it was kinda just open mat. I found this time to be very useful to use as some much need practice time for technique. This gym lays a little more on the non-traditional side. Most people where gi's but they are optional and some do not. Bowing is not required (or at least that is what I was told). And Bob incorporates some general self-defense not exclusively related to Jiu-Jitsu like protecting yourself from certain strikes.

Aside from training, they put together ways for families to get to know each other and have fun. Last Halloween they hosted a trunk or treat, which all the families had an amazing time. Also, I was able to attend one of their mom's nights out. I really appreciated that even though I don't personally train - there was something for me as well.
