This is a historic theater located in the Historic Farish Street District. The Alamo is one of only…read morea few dual purpose theaters in the country. It has been around since 1942 and has played host to musical legends such as B.B. King, Nat King Cole and Dorothy Moore. It now operates as a Not-For-Profit theatre and is available for rent. The money gained from rentals is used to keep the theater going. It closed in 1983 and reopend in 1997 after a community restoration effort. The outside of the theater has a nostalgic look and you will see some of sidewalk plaques with the images of legends that performed there. I love the old school marquee that they have out front too. There is a decent amount of free street parking available within walking distance of the theater. The theater has recently hosted music concert, plays, talks, comedy shows and independent films. It is a very nice theater, especially considering its age. But the interior is not that old having been completely renovated in 1997. The theater can seat 524 people, including balcony seating. I will admit that I find the are that the theater is located in to be a bit sketchy, and others have questioned the security of the area. So, I will just say be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out. Anyway, it is a wonderful place not only to host an event, but watch one as well. I highly recommend catching a show here. If I am in Jackson again, I hope to catch a comedy show there.

While visiting Jackson, found this movie theater with very good reviews in Yelp so decided to go to…read morethe 4pm show. Found parking very close to the entrance. Once inside the theater, went straight to the self-check out to buy 2 tickets ($29). The process was fast and easy. Then, gave the tickets to a lady who told us where to go for our movie. Before heading to the movie, we stopped to buy a couple of glasses of wine ($21). We also stopped to get popcorn but decided not to get any because they're cooked with butter which we don't consume. The movie room was super clean and the recliner chairs were very comfy. The big screen and sound were perfect. I wish the temperature was a little cooler. Overall, this is a great movie theater. I felt safe and the lobby was clean. Staff was not friendly but was not mean either so God bless them for wanting to work.

This is happening way too often at Malco. FYI... leaving the theater in the middle of the movie doesn't help. They say ok and you think they'll fix it. They don't. When you ask about again they say it isn't working.

Every time we come here, we experience some type of issue. This has happened across three separate…read morevisits: Incident 1: We were told that staff had lost the keys to the movie, so we had to choose a different one. No one informed us of this until we actually got there. Incident 2: We were given the wrong seats in the wrong theater. To make matters worse, the AC wasn't working, the soda machines were barely pumping out decent soda, and their card reader had been down for several days, so we had to go to the bank just to get cash. Incident 3 (just now): The light in the projector room was on for the entire film. I felt like I could barely enjoy myself due to it. We tried asking staff to fix it, but they said there was nothing they could do. Obviously, not all of this is just due to the staff. They can't control the AC or the card reader, but they're definitely not helping when it comes to the experience with other things. The theatre is in definite need of an upgrade, and until they get it, they won't be seeing me again.
