I am thankful to have this community theatre in beautiful Belhaven. The architecture of the theatre is nothing amazing, but they have excellent performances and host talks from local professors. New Stage Theatre is the only non for profit professional stage theatre in Mississippi. Their play offerings range from old classics to original work. Most of the work is done by volunteers but it's still great. If you are ever curious about what they are offering, check their website for tickets. The Nutcracker was one of the most treasured childhood memories. Through the years New Stage has offered the best that community theatre has available in the city. It is amazing how integrated this neighborhood theatre company has been apart of the cultural growth within the city of Jackson. So many art and cultural players in the City have had some type of interaction with New Stage. I think my love of live stage plays originated here. It has and will always be a conerstone for Jackson and theatre as a whole. If you are interested in entertainment you should support this local venue and catch a play or two. Went to see Boeing Boeing on 2/5/10 while I was in Jackson for the evening. The actors, costumes and sets are wonderful! When I compare this show to any of the small theatre shows I've seen in Sacramento, CA (and I've seen lots), this theatre takes the cake! We showed up about 45 minutes before the play started and got on the waiting list since we didn't have tickets. It didn't sound promising, but a minute before show-time, we were told we could get seats. We were seated in the last row, but still had a great view of the stage. The story was a bit slow at first, but it picked up and had good laughs. Every time I go to a theatre show in Sacramento now, I'll be comparing it to New Stage. read more

Terrible customer service... I am from out of town and wanted to catch a show while visiting friends. The website process was lengthy for purchasing tickets and erased all my info due a five minute timer when purchasing tickets. On my second attempt I was rushed and flustered therefore entered the wrong date. I called the box office to explain and the staff was unwillingly to work with me. I explained that I was coming from out of town and her only suggestion was that I find someone in the Jackson area willingly to buy my tickets. It was rude and I have wasted a large amount of money in a situation that could have been easily fixed. read more

Purchased season tickets for 2014-2015 season and it has been the best value spent on entertainment since moving to MS. I have been to 4 productions now and the talent far exceeds the size of the theater and the city of Jax. I mean that with the most respect! My teen boys have been to 2 productions and while moaning on the way out the door they talked non- stop on the way home with praises. They are now looking fwd to Peter Pan next month. A true gem in Jax and deserves your support. read more

I absolutely ADORE seeing plays at New Stage. The entire night is an experience that draws you in from the moment the doors to the auditorium close and the stage lights go up. One thing I appreciate most is that the choice of plays put on here are always tasteful. I cannot say the same for the other, larger theatre in Jackson. I've been seeing plays here for years and will continue. I cannot recommend it enough. Go, enjoy the show! and be sure to have a glass of wine during intermission :) read more
