This is a historic theater located in the Historic Farish Street District. The Alamo is one of only…read morea few dual purpose theaters in the country. It has been around since 1942 and has played host to musical legends such as B.B. King, Nat King Cole and Dorothy Moore. It now operates as a Not-For-Profit theatre and is available for rent. The money gained from rentals is used to keep the theater going. It closed in 1983 and reopend in 1997 after a community restoration effort. The outside of the theater has a nostalgic look and you will see some of sidewalk plaques with the images of legends that performed there. I love the old school marquee that they have out front too. There is a decent amount of free street parking available within walking distance of the theater. The theater has recently hosted music concert, plays, talks, comedy shows and independent films. It is a very nice theater, especially considering its age. But the interior is not that old having been completely renovated in 1997. The theater can seat 524 people, including balcony seating. I will admit that I find the are that the theater is located in to be a bit sketchy, and others have questioned the security of the area. So, I will just say be aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out. Anyway, it is a wonderful place not only to host an event, but watch one as well. I highly recommend catching a show here. If I am in Jackson again, I hope to catch a comedy show there.

The center players board is made up of a group of adults who according too members, all hate each other. They fight about what is going to happen in the theatre which creates a dysfunctional atmosphere around the whole theatre. Not only is the community theatre dysfunctional because of its board and horrible building acoomidations they all also practice bias and racism in their casting process. During a center players show it is unlikely to see more than two African American men and women together on stage. And it is highly unlikely that you will see anyone who is overweight or not the size they want as I have heard them say. There most recent musical Oklahoma directed by Peter James was a pretty good show but as an example you could see that there where only two African American cast members and no overweight men or women on stage. The lead was played by a blue eyed blonde haired christian how much more stereo typical can we get. But if you think thats bad hold on because theres a lot more. The abandon school building located next to the theatre is used to store all of center players props and costumes. Now this seems like a great place to stop props and costumes. Until you learn that it is filled with espestus a deadly mold that can cause many health problems to people. Center players makes their cast members go into this deadly building to fetch their props and they make sure not to tell there cast just how deadly the building is. even though the community theatre has all of these problems I don't expect them to last long due to the fact that there microphone system will become inoperable in the next year due to the frequencies being purchased out from under them. I don't expect for the theatre to last very under the horrible casting ad working conditions and technical conditions.
