The city centre is walkable in about half an hour if you know the right directions, and for the money you save in room price you'll be able to stop for a few drinks on the way! My friend and I stayed here for 3 nights, split the cost of rooms so it cost each of us less than 200 euros. Per night, the rate worked out cheaper than some of the hostels in the city centre, and for the quality of the hotel it's quite remarkable. It's clean, quirky and certainly not lacking in personality, which you can tell from the Superman cow statue outside. Inside, the interior ranges from being modern and sophisticated to a bit zany in the rooms - ours had a stripey, 70s style retro carpet and a spacious checkered bathroom that is probably the nicest I've seen in a hotel. They don't call it the art hotel for nothing - our bed was backed with a massive (and terrifying) picture of a little girl. Intimidating, but certainly not lacking in personality! Our room was equipped with kettle, clean, soft, warm towels, chairs and all the other usual amenities such as toileteries that you'll steal but never actually use. I was particularly impressed with the variety of TV channels, from Dutch MTV to various foreign channels to suit tourists from all over Europe. There were a couple of British channels if we urgently needed to keep up to speed on what was happening at home. Downstairs there was a swimming pool, free internet from the PCs on the ground floor and a gorgeous wee bar where you could get breakfast. The security in the place was good - you had to use your swipe card several times to get to the room - and access for wheelchair users was good due to the lifts. It's right outside a bus stop and there was an option to rent mopeds and regular bikes, so you're kept well in transportation links. All in all, loved it and have recommended it to several friends who prefer a comfier choice to hostel living!

It's a very basic room, not super fancy. It's great for a cheap stay and just place to crash and sleep. The breakfast or continental breakfast is very basic and simple. No-frills or excitement or luxury to any aspect of the hotel. I think there are more parking spots and ramps and structures for bicycles then there were for cars. Remember this is the country and the city known for the most amount of bicycles in the world.

My advice would be to pay close attention to your belongings as you walk from the station to the hotel. That being said, the Holiday Inn Express Sloterdijk is like a diamond in the rough. As soon as we entered, we relaxed immediately in the quiet atmosphere. There is a grocery store on the first level of the hotel as well as a restaurant, which we didn't try. You take an elevator up one floor to get to the reception desk to check in. We stayed at this hotel two times on our Amsterdam trip, for one night each time. Both stays were excellent. As an IHG Rewards member, I was thrilled that we were able to check in early on our first visit. On our second visit, we had to wait a couple hours to check in. We went to the nearby Starbucks to wait as the hotel lobby was very crowded with people waiting to check in. On both stays, we were given a room with an odd number. I was glad, because I had read in another Yelp review that the odd numbered rooms were quieter. The odd numbered rooms face the trains but the train noise did not bother us. We had rooms pretty high up, which probably helped in that regard. The rooms were clean, modern, and comfortable. I liked the toiletries in the bathroom. They had my second favorite hotel breakfast on the trip, and the cool thing is the breakfast is included with the room, which is pretty rare in Europe. You had to let the front desk know which hour-long "shift" you wanted for breakfast in order for them to have enough seating for everyone. We picked the early shift (from 7 - 8 am). There was plenty of food and seating during that shift. They had plentiful pastries (my favorite!), yogurt, fruit, cereal, Dutch cheeses, juices, and hot food items available. Both times we stayed at this hotel, we at dinner at the Hermes restaurant, which is just across from this hotel, literally steps away. We loved sitting outside at that restaurant, enjoying their wonderful food and service. The Sloterdijk Station is only two train stops from the airport and one train stop to the Central station in Amsterdam. We would definitely stay there again.

If you are sensitive to noise, this may not be the best place for you as it is right next to the train station and the walls are very thin. Two of our nights, people were on the street with a loud speaker and we could hear it all the way from the top floor. I love that breakfast is included at this hotel. Pastries, boiled eggs, fruit, meat, and more. However, I wish the eggs were either pre peeled or scrambled. Overall, I would stay here again!

On my last day I had accumulated 10 $ and got to try their excellent Taglatelle pasta. Food: there is breakfast for about 22$ a person- a little pricy but compared to other continental breakfasts I've seen, they have a larger spread. They have fresh juices, herring, all kinds of cold cuts, fancy seating, great coffee machine and just a great spread. The hotel is in a convenient location for me when I travel for business to Amsterdam. As most of the business I do is at the airport I have often stayed there but after several visits per month for many years I was sick and tired of the airport hotels so this is easy access being next to Sloterdijk and also makes it easy to go into town for dinner. After the chaos of the first visit the service has been really good. Always friendly and fast at check-in and they keep track of loyalty benefits and special requests. The elevators at this place are a bit weird (no buttons in the elevator so need to select the floor outside) but now seems to work. They have a very small gym but I have never seen anyone else use it. The rooms are a bit dark but that is more a decoration choice and it works ok, just a bit weird with portraits on the wall staring at the bed. Everything is new and works well. They have the essentials so safe, mini-bar, TV, iron and ironing board. Free wifi is reliable and reasonably fast. The restaurant at the top floor is decent and prices are acceptable. Good selection of beer (some local craft ones) as well as ok wine selection. Food is not amazing but good enough for a hotel. The atmosphere is nice and there are plenty of seats. Breakfast is also served there and it is a nice and fresh breakfast.

The thing that really got us was the wonderful service. The desk staff went above and beyond on more than one occasion. We decided to stay an extra two days in Amsterdam because we were having a great time. We booked another night because it was available and they ensured our experience was seamless. Same room, no check in check out. They were full the second night but set us up at their sister property and facilitated the transition. There is a common kitchenette, sitting space and dining area. Perfect size for 3-4 people. It's well connected by public transport. 6 minutes to Amsterdam centraal by NS train and 15 minutes by NS train to Schipol airport with good frequency. If you aren't in a hurry, there are enough tram stops near by. (30 mins to Amsterdam centraal) Reception staff was very friendly and helpful regarding tickets and passes. It's further away from the city Center, I knew about this location disadvantage before booking. but cost wise it made sense for 3 of us There's a restaurant / cocktail bar downstairs for breakfasts and quick meals. Vending machines for other kinds of food. They have some basic room service too. Toiletries in the bath enough for 2 days and tea and coffee enough for 4 days provided complimentary. There's a supermarket next door if you want to cook in the room, but we just used the kettle for tea in the morning and evening. (Carried out own tea bags from home. They provide some assortment of twinings green and black teas) Cleaning service isn't daily, so you need to keep your apartment tidy, but they provide all bedding and linen and towels. There's a coin laundry downstairs (we didn't use it) in case you need to get something washed. So it's a good option for long stays too.

Everyone I interacted with there was professional, helpful, and friendly. Unfortunately, the good service at the front desk didn't extend to the rest of the hotel. The bar and Lotti's restaurant were both consistently understaffed, and the service was extremely slow. Lotti's also seemed to be out of a lot of the main dishes, even though the menu is already pretty limited. As for the rooms, they were okay, but felt a little worn and could really use some updating. Nothing terrible, but for what the hotel charges, I think you should be able to expect a bit more comfort and quality. After checking out the W Hotel nearby, which was much nicer for a similar price, I couldn't help but feel disappointed. For nearly $4500 after taxes for three nights in two rooms at the Hoxton, I honestly felt a bit cheated. Again, the front desk team deserves credit, but overall, I think the Hoxton needs to step up its game to justify these rates.
