I feel bad for my son because he is still hurting from the way they treated him. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone.

i was very disappointed with xlibris.com, i have been waiting for my royalties for 12 years now and they told me i did not sell any books. this is a huge lie. i dont recommend self publishing companies of any kind. all they do is charge you 16,000.00 and then steal all your royalties. i know im not the only one they have done this to.im not the only one who is complaining here.this is the reason why they have lost so many new cxustomers and so much money. now they are calling me asking me for more money. i told them no and you should too. read more

They keep asking me to fill out a survey and I can't honestly give them a good report. They were continually calling. Unfortunately I finally got the money they were asking for publication. I went with the installment plan and was in Kenya ministering when I was able to make the first two payments. When it came to the final payment, I told them I didn't have the money as I was depending on the stimulus for the payment. They told me nothing more would be done on the book until the final payment was made. I did understand that. When I was able to get the final payment in, I waited awhile and didn't hear anything so I started calling. I wasn't getting return calls. I finally was able to talk to the person that was in charge of my book and she said she would check on it. I still didn't hear anything so called again. Finally I started contacting management and she started contacting me back. They finally commented that the manuscrapt had fallen between the cracks on the editing, but they would get on it. I waited a couple weeks and didn't hear anything so I let them know I wasnted a report. The response back was that they were working on it. I told them that wasn't acceptable and I wanted a time frame. They said it would be the end of the month. They did get it back to me by the end of that week. The manuscript they finally got back to me was the original I had sent in and I thought I had sent a corrected one. After searching I realized I hadn't, so I sent them the corrected one. If they had been working on it when they got the money, we would have been aware of that a month earlier and would have had the process further down the road. Any part of the contract they have fulfilled has been like pullong teeth to get it accomplished. Tjey deveoped a website for me, but it took me almost a month to get the log in information so I could make changes in it, and as of yet I haven't figured it out enough to make those changes. I look at the reports for sales and it shows there have been no books sold and yet I know of ten that have been sold and with the ministry following I have, I am sure there are far more than that. As of yet I have not received one cent from them. I have found working with them to be more than a frustration than anything else. I wish I would have thought to research them before I signed the contract. This was my first book and the struggles I have had with them have taken all the excitement that I should have received over such a major accomplishment. read more

In the last five years of dealing with Xlibris and trying, so far unsuccessfully, to have five books published through them, they have proven dishonest, deliver shoddy products, and are incompetent to boot. Xlibris is based in Cebu City, Phillippines, NOT Bloomington Indiana as that public is led to believe. In pretending they are in the U.S,, their staff works all night when people should be sleeping, and it shows. I highly recommend that aspiring self-published authors use other means to get their work out, including CreateSpace, Outskirts Press (www.outskirtspress.com), Kindle Direct Publishing (https://kdp.amazon.com/), and Archway Publishing (www.archwaypublishing.com). For a more comprehensive list, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_self-publishing_companies. It is very telling that in the few years of my regrettable association with Xlibris, there has been a significant employee turnover--including one who suddenly announced they were "leaving for greener pastures"--leaving me high and dry. The turnaround time on the interior and exterior design of books is atrocious, and I have found my draft manuscripts riddled with errors, figures misplaced, and the layout entirely unsatisfactory, to where I would have been much better off doing it myself with Word Press, or one of the above more competent companies. Because of the employee turnover, I have found that Xlibris staff is inexperienced and unable to deliver a quality product on time. Even worse, Xlibris uses deceptive business practices to dupe authors into signing thousands of dollars worth of "marketing services" contracts which have little value and don't deliver as promised. An author still has to market the book, use social media, build an author's web page, and so on. In sum, DON'T use Xlibris, there are many other self-publishing companies (for example, Kindle Direct is affiliated with Amazon.com, and Archway Publishing is affiliated with Simon & Schuster. read more

these guys are nothing but scammers and sell the rights of your books to other companies and then tell you your books are not making money

Xlibris is yet another vanity publisher exploiting people who don't know the difference between a real publisher or a vanity publisher. Do not publish with them. They will not make your book returnable which will make your book ineligible for local bookstore ms. Xlibris charges over $2000 to make your book returnable, something real publishers include automatically to get your book in bookstores. I was happy when I asked about it and my publisher, New Book Authors Publishing told me that this was and should be automatic with any publisher so its shocking that Xlibris is charging authors thousands just to tell retailers its returnable. This is NOT normal. Xlibris has so many complaints and lawsuits it's insane. read more

Oh this was a terrible experience. I had gotten excited to publish a book and tried this company out. As soon as I was on the phone I was pressured from every which way. I barely even got to talk at all or think. They are good conmen and unfortunately I gave my credit card to them. Thus, They took the first payment of $300. I decided to cancel it all and within the said time to get a full refund. I called emailed about canceling... They said it was in process but I wasn't getting my money back. By the time the next month came by they took $300 more... I called and told them I need both refunds now because I had canceled. Without getting any services they took $600 from me. Luckily my bank was accommodating. But the emails of promotions with them wanting me to by $1000 of dollars in advertising for my book that wasn't even published yet. It was a nightmare. If you wanna publish your book. Lulu.com I loved this place. read more

I spent so much money doing this. They say you have a discount, but you have to do it there and then. They call you non-stop for when they want you to buy something, but ghost you of you have any questions. There editorial team is so bad. And the departments don't talk to eachother. They didn't fix half of the spelling and grammatical errors in my paper, then I had to do it all by myself because the design department didn't have the edited book. I paid over 6000 for marketing, and they don't even do that much. I paid about 300+ for all royalties, and they don't tell you the catch and it doesn't specify in the contract that you don't have full control of the prices. You can only go down and up like 2 or 3 dolars. I've been fighting them for about 3 weeks now as to why my book isn't in hard cover online. I've only gotten one email back saying they will forward, but nothing out of the 4 emails. I have also spent over 7,000 dolars on this book. I just was on hold with sales department for 30min trying to get ahold of ANYONE to tell me the sales on the book. They keep telling me next quarter and give me a date. I've changed my phone number and they keep calling the old house I lived at. For about 3 years I've told them NOT TO CALL THERE, but they won't. They say it's not on file, but the father keeps telling me they are still calling. And I don't get phone calls at the place I'm at now. I was so hopeful when I started. And I enjoyed it. But they act so disappointed when you say you can't afford something, and then harrase you about it for months. And my marketing person straight up said "we have a credit card on file, just use that" I told him it has a limit on it and I've already met that limit and he said "...ohhh....what about this other card, or take out a loan, do you have family members that could help you?" I said no, "the other card is from my savings and I already spent that on what I have now, you have to wait till next month for me to afford it. I could get a loan but idk how I can pay that off. My family is also poor like me, so it's going to have to wait" "oh...thats too bad. Why don't you just talk to your mom? Get a loan. You need to do something, sooner the better" I went in circles for about an hour. I'm a student and working full time as well, so it took me a while to get everything published. And they wouldn't understand that. They wouldn't understand I don't have time, I don't have 10,000 just LAYING around. I'm so pissed at this company. They were going to sell me some bs for a second book, but if I'm doing a second book, I'm going to use a serious publishing company. DO. NOT. USE. THIS. COMPANY. read more

I signed on with Xlibris 2.5 years ago. I paid them $3,200 to publish the SECOND edition to my book. When I first spoke to them in the beginning, one of their promises was that my 2nd edition could be 8.5"x11" just like my first edition. The sales rep had my 1st edition on his computer so he could see the dimensions, the publisher info, the book title, the book's topic, and how many pages it was. They called me about twice a month for the 2.5 years I was with them asking for my manuscript. Jump ahead 2.5 years and I am ready to publish my book. I called them and found out that my book had to be 6"x9" and couldn't be the same size as my 1st edition. I went ahead and accepted it and moved on even though that was not what was promised to me. I asked my rep for the timeline of printing. You see, my book is about Disneyland and I had a booth at the bi-yearly D23 Expo that is put on by the Disney Company in Anaheim. There was a specific deadline I needed to meet for me to receive my copies in time. After he told me the review time, print time, delivery time, time for me to approve the authors copy, print the 300 copies I needed, and delivery for those. I needed to have my document to them by June 9th. I pressed all night on the 8th and stayed up all night to finalize everything and had to go back work in the morning without even going to bed. I was exhausted. I had worked so hard on it over the previous 6 months to get it finished. A few days in, the emails started. You can't use that title for your book, you can't have these photos in it, you can't have these lyrics, you can't use these quotes, you can't use these forewords or photos or testimonials without written consent, you can't use these bullets, and you need permission from Disney to write an unofficial guide. I went ahead and changed everything they said. I took out photos, I rewrote chapters, I got permission emails from everyone, I changed the title of my book, and I spent two hours changing all my bullets. I kept asking my rep to let me speak with the review team so I can talk to them about the changes they wanted. Now we are at June 21st. Two weeks have been wasted. I made all the changes they wanted and then in my last email they said I still needed permission from Disney to write an unofficial guide. OMG!!!! It's UNOFFICIAL because I don't have permission. If I had permission, then it would be official. I ended up calling my reps supervisor and discussed things. I told her all the changes I had done to fit what they needed, I resized my whole book even though the sales rep said it could be that size, and even changed the title of my book even though they knew the title and what the book was about for 2.5 years. I said it wasn't right to make promises and not be able to fulfill the duties they were supposed to do. She then told me that there wouldn't even be time for them to print them all for my event on July 10th. It takes 2 weeks for printing, even though my rep told me 2-5 business days. I told her she needed to set him straight. She said they don't even review anything about my book until I send in my manuscript. I told her that was never told to me or else I would have sent in what I had already done months before to start the approval process. I told her she left me no choice, I was going to have to let them go and hire someone else. They sent me my money back, minus $330 for the stuff that they did do. I ended up hiring Synergy Book Publishing THAT DAY and they printed my book as is and shipped 1,500 copies to me in time for my event. They will be arriving on two pallets in two days. They are also half the price. Xlibris was going to charge me $10.80 per copy that I bought, and Synergy is charging me $4.66 per copy. I have two more books coming out in the next two years and I also need a publisher for my client as I am a PR manager for Tinker Bell, and we will not be using this company. Stay away from Xlibris it was a nightmare and very stress full. I am a carefree kind of guy and never get angry. This bothered the heck outta me and made me mad. read more

I have just published my second book, the first with Xlibris. I have read the reviews here and on other sites, and they seem to break down to three issues: 1. Some authors have unrealistic expectations of success. My advice is that self publishing is largely a hobby. Do it for your own satisfaction and do not expect to be one of the few who makes any money, especially if you buy into their marketing programs 2. The competence and understanding of their Philippines based staff is very variable. You have to get lucky. My books are rather academic and they do well on some things (copy editing excellent, index creation awful). Many of their staff are doing their job by rote and do not have the experience to understand broader issues 3. The selling of "marketing" programs. They are laughable. I have been corresponding with "Charles" who want me to spend $4000 for a one hour book signing at the Miami Book Fair, which requires flying 1,800 miles each way and spending two nights in a hotel. For this I get 75 books to sign and give away while I chat to book lovers. The problem are that it would require to me sign a book and chat once every 48 seconds to get through my 75 books and then sell 1,500 books just to break even. This by the way is a book on ENGLISH Medieval History. Then I have to back the guy off from calling my office several times a day. No, they don't think anything through, they just through stuff against the wall and hope that something sticks. The wonder tho is not that they offer these naive and poorly thought out programs but that people actually buy them! Do the math, folks. The real weakness in the process is the caliber of the Submission Managers who steer the book through the process. You cannot talk directly to the designer or indexers and you have to get lucky to get a good communicator.. They have gaps in their QC also. They published my eBook without having me review it at all and half the illustration links were wrong and they had to withdraw and resubmit it. If you work with this type of company you need to do your homework, do your math, stay on top of it and absolutely do not count on making money. read more

If i could give them a negative star, i would. They were full of lies and NEVER came thru with all their promises. First go around, they published my book without me approving it. It was missing texts and pages ! They said for a few hundred dollars , they'd fix the mistakes. I demanded they fix THEIR mistakes and i wasn't giving them a penny for it. They then fixed the screw up, after speaking with about 6 different people who barely understood English. I was promised 8 free books (I'm still waiting. It's been over a year). I sold over 100 books and they STILL WONT cut a check for me! That's right, I NEVER GOT PAID!!! Over 100 copies sold and i haven't seen ANY money from them. With numerous phone calls made and emails sent, I'm still waiting, a year later, for a phone call back. But this company had no problem calling me almost 800 times trying to get me to invest thousands of dollars on promotion, yet I'm still waiting for them to deliver on the first deal. When I wanted to publish my first book I had no clue how to go about doing it. I called around and that's when Xlibris sicked their high pressure salesman on me. For the $7,000 package he said all the right things and made me feel like it would be in all the bookstores, and I would be on my way to fame and fortune. I read the reviews and thought, well, some people are never satisfied and will complain about anything, even McDonald's coffee for being to hot. Anyway, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I submitted my manuscript, after a evaluation I was told I needed a line edit..$3,000.00 more. I hired a freelance editor for $630.00. They said I paid for a copy edit and it would take two weeks. I asked my editor if I should let them do it, she said two eyes are better than one so I said go ahead. When I got it back I had to correct 28 mistakes they made. Back and forth went and finally it went to publish. I was told I would receive an authors copy before they published it to resalers, that way it I needed to make changes, I could. Two days later, it was on Amazon. I primed a copy and got it two days later. Looking through if there were mistake after mistake. Double question marks, repeating sentences, 138 in all. I call them and they wanted to charge me $250 to correct their mistakes. I had to prove that they made the mistakes. I had a video made, I provided a demo they could copy from. Did they? No. Then they said I only had one alteration then it would cost me. They told me it would go to Hollywood to a production company they worked with 5 more minutes. That was a scam, the only thing I could find that they ever filmed was a short story that wasn't worth watching. $3,000 for a stupid video scam. I pulled my paperback and ebook off xlibris and self published it free on Amazon.i have full control over it and can make changes any time I choose. Since, my book won two awards including the Eric Hoffer 2019 SciFi/Fantasy of the year. I left my hardcopy with Xlibris since Amazon doesn't print them yet. In my book deal with Xlibris I purchased a NY Times Sunday review ad. It came out last Sunday and on it, it said "available in hardcopy only" then gave their bookstore website. No Amazon or barnes and Noble which they also distribute the hard copy to. They screwed me with my own ad! I forgot to mention, after paying all they robbed me for they wanted to charge me $10,000 to promote my book. I told them ill do it myself. One women after trying her best finally told me I might as well throw it in the trash because it will never be anything more than a paperweight. I told her to f...off. Now that my book won awards, boy did that give them another round of ammunition to come at me. Now, for $4,000 they want to hook me up with a screenwriter from Hollywood.yeah, probably works for the phony production company. My advise to you, you can do all this for nothing with Amazon. And if that woman who said my book will be a paperweight, well, it's won awards, being made into an audiobook at no cost to me, and has made it to #5 on Amazon best sellers list for my genre. Stay away from publishers, everything they do, they charge you. I had to give a star but didn't want to. read more

Well this was a nightmare. Glad I read the reviews. I narrowed it down to 3 publishers, xlibris, page publishing, and newbookauthors.com. oh and authorhouse.com since they're owned by penguin. After reading the reviews here, xlibris was out of the running. Plus they charge $2600 to make books returnable. Bookstores wont even carry your book if it's not returnable. I decided not to go with page publishing because of negative reviews and because they were also too expensive. I changed my mind about authorhouse. Their prices go up to $12,000 for features most publishers do for free. I went with New Book Authors. they dont charge authors to make books returnable. they do it without being asked. Plus it was only $500 to publish with them and not thousands of dollars. Whatever you do, be careful out there and do your research before committing to a publisher. read more

Myself and five employees were seconds from burning to death when a retardant plane saw us and dropped 3,000 gallons of retardant on us. I wish I could give no stars at all. From the start, it was all good. Within a month, the up-selling and lies began. I was promised that if I were to upgrade that my book would be "actively marketed" to book stores all over via Xlibris reps; I was also told that a "book video" would be made and was guaranteed to be seen by Random House's film division, ThruLine . These lies were recorded and listened to by the rep's supervisor who advised me to email her with what I considered a resolution to the problem. I did as she requested and never heard from her again. I finally got through to someone who was completely disinterested in the issue who advised me that he needed 2 more days to collect information to resolve the issue. All I want, and I've been telling these people this, is to be put back to my original position when I first bought in and refunded the difference of the upgrade. Nobody there wants to be fair and just. They want to take your money and leave you high and dry trying to figure out how to market your material. I refuse to use the materials they are planning to send me, as their name is all over it. Xlibris is a terrible "company" to do business with. I published a book with them in 2005 and earned a small amount of money through the ten years the book was in their catalog. In 2015 I decided to update the details and also publish the book in Spanish, with the exact same content. They demanded money out front before submission of the manuscript(s). The individuals named in the manuscripts are the same as those named in the 2005 book, which they were still printing and selling. The majority of the individuals are criminals, some imprisoned and some deceased. The book is a true crime memoir and I was involved in most, if not all, the incidents that took place. To my surprise, I was told I would have to obtain written permission to use the individuals names in my book, even though they were incarcerated or had served prison sentences and were the subjects in the existing book. No amount of explanation would change their minds and they refused to return all the funds they had charged. Be forewarned, their are other companies and other methods of sucessfull self-publishing. Xlibris is not one of them. read more

Xlibris is a marketing company that devotes its resources, once an author is hooked, on pushing for more money for more marketing effort. I told them (after buying their "Premium" package for $2,000) that I was writing a memoir for my family and a few friends. Their response was, "For only $20,000 more, they would provide $40,000 worth of marketing effort, including getting my book into the Beijing Book Fair of 2018." They indicated that John Sacchi, formerly the head of a big movie/TV production company, would probably want to buy an option on my book. This without having read a word of the book! At some point, they said the memoirs about the Viet Nam war were hot sellers. My book includes some discussion of my role in the Korean War but not a word about Viet Nam. They push an author for speed: "Hurry up with those corrections." "Can we have your response tomorrow!" My book was printed on the most expensive paper possible-it weighs two pounds! The hard-cover version is available at Amazon for a mere $140 and the paper-back $98. This is absurd! My main contact there, after working my way through a half-dozen marketeers, was a woman named Alyssa Richter. She had a slight accent and I asked her whether she was German. She said no, that she was from the Philippines. "They give us western names for the benefit of the clients." They said that they could call me at 6:00 or 7:00 pm (my time) in California. That is 9:00 or 10:00 pm in Bloomington, Indiana. I suspect that the whole production operation for Xlibris is in the Philippines. Finally, I had a call from another (?) publisher who said that they could publish my book with a selling price of about $15. This was a different company, but when I checked, it had the same address and same phone number as Xlibris. What a con game these people play. The YELP reviews by Kate F, Gianna C, b.w., and Jennifer L are exactly in agreement with my experience. For God's sake, find a different publisher. read more

I recently published with Xlibris. There are some things that were good but I have the same criticisms of many of the other people on this thread. Good things: the book looks great and seems to be of good quality. The people were pleasant. Bad things: 1. I provided them with a file that had my text and images in a suggested format, page breaks and the like. They cut and pasted that into a pdf but seemed incapable of doing even minor editing to fit the text and images to the new format. I had to go through very carefully to look for sentences that were split and extra line spacing due to the change in format, font, margins, etc. For the money I paid to them this seems like something they should have done. 2. They were constantly pushing me to up sell packages and add new features. I will add that I caught on quickly and when I interrupted their spiel to say if they were trying to sell me something they should just stop and save us both time, they would stop. No hemming or hawing or trying a new tack. I told them I am retired and already have a lot of money invested, I can't afford anymore so please stop. That's fine but I would prefer not to have to deal with these types of calls in the first place. 3. Most of their work is outsourced to the Philippines. The call center people were pleasant and friendly but some of them did not speak English well enough to be working for a publishing company. 4. Honestly, I don't see what I paid for. I was given a 50% discount but it still was over $1000 to publish my book. Take home message. The services they provide seem overpriced and the continued pressure to pay more is really annoying and I doubt that I will publish with them again solely for that reason. read more

I would like to say that so far I am happy with Xlibris. They have all been very polite on the phone. I just published my first book with them and am very pleased with the looks of my book. This is my first book ever, so maybe I am not as apt to find fault as some of you long time authors but the cost to me has been nominal. When I first started with them, they were friendly, very interested in my book and quick to get it into print and on the market for sale. As for the marketing process, I must admit I am a bit leery for now until I see how it goes but within 2 weeks of my book being published I have sold 9 copies. The cover was just as I asked it to be.The photo was clear and the colors were as I had chosen. They have been quick to get things done in each area of the publishing. The layout was like I agreed upon. The headers were like they were supposed to be. I can find no fault at present with Xlibris. I will have to wait and see how the marketing goes. I must admit I am holding my breath to see if they follow through with really marketing it to all the media that they are suppose to. I was a bit disappointed when I saw the marketing list when it didn't have the major newspaper in my town listed. Their reply was that this newspaper had not subscribed to their press release options....but that they would try and see what they could do to get it to the largest newspaper in my hometown. With self-publishing it is always partly the responsibility of the writer to help get it out to the public. For the more than fair price I had to pay, I am very pleased with the results so far. There are only two things so far, that have gone wrong but I am sure they will rectify them as soon as they can. On Amazon there was suppose to be an e-book available and it is not there yet....then on Goodreads the photo of my book was not present...only the wording etc. So I sent an email to Marvin Easton in Marketing and he assured me he would try to get me to the right person to handle these two issues. I feel sure they will correct these two issues. I am very satisfied at the present with all Xlibris has done for me, but like I say, this is my first book so maybe that is why they are so eager to help me. They want another book from me. Who knows? But for now, I have almost all good things to say about them. Thanks Xlibris for all of your help through this grueling process. I never could have done it on my own. I have gone ahead and documented in writing my grievances with Xlibris' service. Due to the inability to meet my needs as an author I wrote to request a full refund in the amount of $1,719.10. I felt this was appropriate due to negligence on the behalf of the Designer Alyssa Richter, Sr. Operations Manager Dana Scott, Eugene Hopkins and Publishing Consultant Fatimah Garrison. The inability to provide me with clear expectations of what Xlibris can be delivered.I was first passed on to work with Xlibris June 15th, after communicating with Timothy Murphy from Authorhouse.Prior to signing my contract I stressed greatly that my interior gallery would not be touched, my files would not be compromised and Fatimah assured me that this wouldn't happen. I requested specifically that the books be hard cover with full bleed, high-resolution images and I needed the royalties feature of a package. The books never reached final completion for July and I spent countless hours trying so hard to communicate with Alyssa Richter on how to open my files. I have sent these files extensively in the past, back and forth with my school Otis College of Art and Design, and with Blurb. I printed a copy of this book with blurb in order to shoot my Kickstarter and the PDF format, interior gallery looked the same digitally as it did physically. There was no corruption with fonts, files or programs. With Xlibris the company did not have updated software therefor could not open my InDesign File. Alyssa spent weeks simply obtaining my fonts, images and interior gallery, something that should have taken maybe a day or so. Xlibris never ended up obtaining the font and I had to call Adobe to find out if I could license it. All of this to end up sending me a proof that not only displayed manipulation of my interior gallery. Chunks of text were missing, the images were blotchy, containing black blobs behind them, formats were changed and the pages were adjusted, altering the contents and the index of the book to not match the page count correctly.I was astonished that not only would Xlibris send me this file with all of these errors, botched formatting, missing text and so on but the fact that no one checked this and that the designers stood by their work was shocking. I called and spoke with fatimah and I explained how upset I was and that this was now going into mid July, where my second payment would be deducted. Fatimah reviewed the file and understood the issues and concerns. I requested to speak to a designer but I was told that wasn't possible, which is ridiculous. Fatimah assured me that we would fix it and that I wouldn't have to pay anything until I see the second proof and approve that the file was sufficient. I mentioned to her that I didn't want to be charged the 30.00$ fee for insufficient funds and she said that she "didn't think that was a thing" I said either way this is your fault and I do not wish to be charged for your negligence. She said this was fine and that because the payment was automatic I would have to manually stop payment with my bank.I spoke to the billing department and addressed this and they said that it was impossible for them to stop payment I would have to go to the bank. I went to my bank to find out it was 30.00$ to stop a payment and my next option was to cancel my debit card. Chase bank said that since your company was physically coming into my account to deduct the funds that you guys would have to stop the payment on your end. The billing department was clueless, and completely incompetent and instead proceeded to call me saying I have an outstanding balance. This is insane. I had to explain weekly that I had an arrangement with Dana Scott and Fatimah Garrison that regardless of the hold on my account they would be continuing to work to fix their mistake, your companies mistake. There must be zero communication within your company because no one ever seemed to know my situation or have notes on behalf of my process and I found myself continuously explaining my situation which is exhausting.Dana took over my account and once again she assured me how easy my project would be, how the book essentially just needed to be printed and that Alyssa would now no longer be affiliated with my project. Dana then expressed "we take full responsibility for not being able to implement the latest corrections". There is negligence all around and a severe lack of knowledge when it comes to basic design jargon. The fact that I couldn't even communicate with a designer? Or when I called to find out about the printing establishment was used the woman on the phone had to google it. I deserve full compensation. The hours of work done on their end was due to continuous error, and attempt at correction and when I was finally connected to Eugene Hopkins I was met with aggressive and hostile behavior. read more

Horrible. My father-in-law paid them ~$800 in advance to publish his book. He passed away before he could deliver the manuscript, and we've literally been calling them for years to get a refund. The person who answers always takes all my info and says they need to pass me on to the refunds department, but every time there's nobody in the refunds department (they're on break, or some other excuse) so they take our info and promise to call back. And they never call back. Stay away! read more

This company will call and email you relentlessly regardless of how many times you ask them not to. I have asked them several times to not call anymore and ignore every other call they send. Tonight, I answered one call and immediately let the representative know that I did not want them calling anymore and to place me on their do not call list. I hung up, she immediately called back and when I asked her if she had heard what I just told her, she said "F***k you" and hung up on me. Then she sent me another email, saying "If you can't afford to publish, let me know." That is so offensive. I don't want to talk to her because of choice, not finances. read more

Don't expect a refund. I was told I would get called by a "refund agent" "within the next 48 hours" and was never called back. After that, I called again twice and left messages but they never called back. I'm probably on a "do not answer" list of theirs. They know I want a refund and so they don't answer me so they can keep my money. Refunds aside, this is a garbage company that just wants your money. You can tell just from talking to them on the phone. I asked one "consultant" they assigned me a question that she evaded twice. Since they offer to advertise your book for you, my question was whether they would advertise me if my book is not that good. She pretended I never asked (through email), twice. I bought a publishing package from them for my book, and then after I gave them my money, the started offering me advertising packages. I was foolish enough to buy an advertising package. One package was for ten thousand dollars for an ad in a popular magazine. Another package was a much cheaper version of this, which was the one I bought. Another package was so that when someone buys your book, you get all the money from it. Did I mention that Xlibris takes most of the money from sales of your book? And the consultant assigned to me tried to play me for dumb by saying I get over 100% of profit from the book, because I get 25% from Xlibris website bookstore sales, 50% from other online sales, 100% from audio book sales, etc. Just because these different percentages add up to over 100% doesn't mean that I get over 100% of profit. And for the more important ways of selling your book, you get a lower percentage than the ways that less people will use such as audio books. When I decided to cancel my business with them, the main consultant they assigned me would not take no for an answer. I told him over and over that I want to cancel and all he would do is ask me why and tell me reasons not to cancel. This went on for a half hour, then I hung up and got called back, and then called back a few days later. The few days later I said that I want to cancel still, and he again asks me why to try to talk me out of it. The only way to get them to take "no" for an answer is to hang up on them. Unfortunately, I'm probably never getting my money back from them. Fortunately, I paid in installments and only paid two thirds of the price before canceling the contract. So I only lost two thirds of the money I would have had I paid the complete amount in one payment. read more

Xlibris, the company that originally published my book named WHO?, contacted me in early October, 2016 with a, re-publishing and promotion of my book, deal. I could get 10,000.00 dollars worth of their expertise for only $5,000.00. I agreed and they put me on a $1,000.00 a month pay plan. $1,000.00 up front and $1,000.00 each and every month for 5 more months. They told me that when they received the first payment they would start their on end right-a -way. I had to leave the country for a couple of weeks so i ask them to contact me at the beginning of November for the information that they needed to get started. I have never heard from them since! However, they continued to take the $1,000.00 a month from my Citi Bank credit card. I notified Citi Bank with a complaint, and they stopped the payments for a short time, until they changed their mind and debited my card back and continued to let Xlibris take the payments out. They said that i had a legal contract and it was binding. They were correct about the contract, but a contract is usually a two way street. I was fulfilling my end by making the payments, and Xlibris was not doing anything on their end. As of today 04/18/17 i have heard NOTHING from Xlibris and i have closed my Citi Bank card. The bottom line that i would suggest is that NOT to do business with either company. read more

A very angry man called me from Xlibris. He was very defensive even at the start of the call, and it sounded like he was sitting under a furnace. He claimed Xlibris was the oldest publishing company in the United States. Bollocks. He waited until 8 minutes into the call to say they were 'aided' self-publishing at an entree fee with no guarantees of promotion. When I said I wasn't interested he hung up immediately without saying a word. Obviously a complete scam. read more
