Overpriced alterations and unfriendly service. The manager suggested that to alter the hem of a dress would cost me $60 due to the degree of effort required, emphasising such words as: 'its very very hard to do'. I asked her for a variation in price by suggesting to just hem by a machine stitch to which she still insisted it would cost $40. I pointed out that a straight stitch does not involve any manual hem work but rather just running the machine across the hemline. She made excuses to justify why the inflated costs was necessary. I stated that she was overpriced and that other businesses in the area would deliver the same work for 50% less in cost. She screamed at me as I was walking out making a comment that I had no clue as to what I was talking about. Fortunately I do understand dress making and therefore cannot support a business owner who intentionally lies about the difficulty in the work to take more money off customers. I later located an honest dressmaker in Preston, High st, who understood what was involved and instantly offered me top quality work at half the price - and suggested the manual hem (not the machine stitch) so as to maintain the quality of the outfit. When I informed her that the other seamstress suggested the work was very hard, she stated that a professional seamstress should not find any hemwork to be difficult.
