Soap Bar Launderette - Melbourne's most chic laundrette

Soap Bar Launderette

I will never again go to any other laundromat. Until I found Soap Bar, I had been going round…read moresupermarkets and bottle shops like a hobo begging for them to exchange notes for $1 coins and pretending not to notice 'DO NOT ASK FOR CHANGE FOR LAUNDROMAT AS REFUSAL MAY OFFEND'. Sometimes the manager at IGA would help out a brother with some coin because I regularly do the family shopping there. But he would tsk tsk and remark that the laundromat should get their own change machine. Once I got enough coins, I would try to negotiate the faulty coin collectors at the laundromat (some machines only took $1s, others only $2s -- but for some reason the lady who owned the place never put up any signs labeling which was which. I think she might have made a tidy side business in stuck coins.) Once my clothes were washed I'd sometimes be pulling them out of the machine only to find my hands coated in sticky soap paste -- yep, that's right, the machine washed so poorly it didn't even move the soap from its original point of deposit into the clothes. Words similar to 'sit' and 'puck' would be muttered under my breath. Of course there was nowhere to rinse your hands. Then I found Soap Bar. The machines are not only cheaper than the rubbish laundromat ($3 per load -- Though the smallest machines are double load, so $6 minimum investment), the equipment is all brand new. And the owners care about graphic design and ambience: the massive mirrored chrome '50s-style 'automatic' sign is a beauty to behold. AND THERE IS A FRICKING CHANGE MACHINE THAT WORKS!! And, even more amazingly, should you not have come even packing notes, there is an ATM. And EVEN more amazingly, if you are totes gen-Y or Z or whatever we're up to now, you can pay for the machines with Paypal. FRICKIN PAYPAL. The machines are all IP, baby. Oh. And there is an air hockey table. And Jenga blocks to play with if they are your thing. There is an 'honesty bar' of soap powder you can scoop out at will for a coin drop of $1 -- no fixed (or policed, anyway) quantity. AND THERE IS FREE WIFI SO YOU CAN NETFLIX AND CHILL* WHILE YOUR WASHING IS GOING WITHOUT BLOWING YOUR DATA PLAN. * Chill in yr he strictly platonic laundromatic plain English sense And there is a sign up indicating that a waffle and coffee cafe will be coming soon at the front of the laundromat. And there is a TAP and a HAND DRYER for those soap exposure moments. Never. Going. Anywhere. Else.

From the owner: Breaking free of the bright white lights and turning the traditional laundrette upside down, our…read morebrand new shiny machines nestle in a relaxing environment with comfy seating, music, free wifi and charging points for your phone and laptop. Spend as long as you like surfing or studying while your clothes spin in top of the range machines.

The best dry-cleaner in Richmond. Hands down. No arguments…read more We have been using these guys for the last 5 years since we moved here! And they are absolutely excellent! Super friendly & efficient service. Option for 24 hour drop off and pick-up if you get yourself a VIP card (which costs nothing - you just have to link it to your credit card). I should mention I did have one unfortunate, yet very well handled incident, with a new Ted Baker dress I dropped off to be dry-cleaned. I usually check the labels of everything to make sure they are dry-clean only before I drop them off but for some reason on this occasion I didn't! I think it's because the dress was silk, I assumed it would be dry-clean only. Unfortunately, the guys at the shop didn't check either on this one occasion (they pride themselves on always checking) and my poor little dress was in fact a "do NOT dry clean" garment. As a result the dry cleaning melted the glue that was holding some little studding on the dress and spread the studs and glue randomly over the dress, ruining it. As soon as this was discovered the owner called me to apologise. They handled the situation so very well - they refunded the cost of the dry-cleaning (obviously), wrote me a cheque for the cost of my dress (which I had on my credit card statement) and gave my husband and I $250 of dry-cleaning credit!! And this was without any hesitation or me having to ask for anything at all. I was so impressed that the disappointment of my ruined dress faded quickly & I have not hesitated in continuing to give them my business! I am not sure if they are more expensive than other places in the area, but with service like that, I won't be going anywhere else and am happy to pay a little extra!!

Best dry cleaner about. Been around for years & just good! Very reasonably priced & so so quick. Major perk is they have a 24/7 collection option.
