Luckily we booked with Zulema. Not only is she great at cutting hair, she's also Vegan! We're Vegan and my son felt more at ease knowing that they have something in common. My little guy just wanted a few inches off, and to even out his hair in the front; a drone flew into his hair and unfortunately we had to cut a few pieces to get it out. Parking is plentiful. The vibe is chill, all the barbers there are nice and do amazing work, and the music helps set that tone. My kid wasn't the only one in there, which made us all feel better. Zulema propped him up on a double booster, and put on the coolest Mario Bros cape. She asked what we wanted and began to cut, and carry a great conversation. The cut was done within a half hour, and my little guy was so happy! His hair came out great, and she made him feel at ease the whole time by checking in with him. We waited quite some time and I was starting to get nervous that my 6 year old wouldn't last much longer. I watch as each barber takes their time on each of their clients. There is clear pride in the styles they create and service they provide. I secretly hope my son's barber will be quick. Finally (when I say this, I mean it as a Hot Mess Mom with 2 kids, not an independent adult with a normal attention span), my son gets his turn. As he climbs into the chair the barber asks what I'd like done. I tell him anything that's quick and easy to maintain. Throughout the 30-ish minute hair cut my son wiggled. Played with the sheet cover thing. Asked questions. Itched his face. Played with the cut hair. But he also sat quiet. Saw how other men behave. And most importantly the stylist got wind that there isn't a male figure at home and instantly changed his demeanor towards my son. Postured himself as strong but safe person. A man that showed respect and patients. It was nice to see someone not only take pride in their work but also have great patients and gentleness with my kid. A kid that can be a challenge.
