We were without hot water for five days kept getting to go around with this company. They came out actually pretty quick the first day they recommended a third-party. I called him and the plumber came out wanted to charge me $5000 for a water heater. I told him no and I got stuck with $175 bill for them just to come out and look at my tank. I'm smart did not get back with me. I ended up calling my old plumber to come put a new water and heater in and I paid for it myself. Almost took me for $8500. They sold me an entirely new AC unit when the current unit was perfectly fine! Thank God I caught these guys before they blatantly ripped me off. My wife tried to turn on the AC when the temperatures escalated a few weeks ago, to no avail. The air handler pushed air but nothing from the outside compressor/condenser. I was out of town and, having the HomeServe insurance plan, she just called them for service. They dispatched a guy from HomeSmart out who immediately determined the "whole unit is shot and needs replacement". They sent a sales guy out the next day and we signed a contract to replace basically everything in the HVAC system to the tune of about $8500. The night before the scheduled replacement, I had a thought about the circuit breaker. Had I simply failed to throw the switch? Indeed, I had. Yes, I'm an idiot for not checking that first! I immediately contacted my sales guy to tell him they were either also idiots, or really poor scammers. I also made several attempts to reach PJ Lara, the regional manager for some attempt at an explanation, but she is obviously too embarrassed to return my messages. Well, 4 weeks later, my home is cool and comfortable with a perfectly operational HVAC system. As usual. I did, however, hire L&L Heating and Cooling to come out on July 2nd and inspect the system just to be sure of its condition, and told them nothing about my experience with HomeSmart. Their inspection concluded that the system was performing flawlessly. Good luck HomeSmart. You really need to re-evaluate your business practice. In particular, business ethics. If you try to remove the charge, they bounce you between Xcel Energy and themselves with no one knowlegdable or taking responsibility for what they are not providing but yet charging, so good luck getting the funds removed from your bill. BUYER BEWARE, purchased our 1st home last year and while getting electricity in our name was told that about 80% of Homeowners are enrolled, so signed up (lesson learned) make sure you xld UNDER a year otherwise will be billed another year, frustrating and when called 2x, agent was in process of transferring me, when asked why, oh I'm transferring you back to the person who you spoke with last time as I will only be telling you the same information and told there is no Supervisor on duty. It lists exclusions that cover anything and everything that might cause a problem, including any appliance repair (including a doorbell, for gosh sakes), and anything "unusual." Of course failure of a power line or water line will be caused by something unusual. No claim anyone might make will ever be honored. It's pure fraud, plain and simple. read more

Home smart is now a company run by a company called homeserve. Called them for a induction cook top issue. The tech was trying to ply the cooktop out of a granite counter with a screwdriver, wife told him you need to pull out the oven underneath it and undo some clips which hold the cooktop in, he had no idea what he was doing. Called his boss and said he had never seen a induction cooktop, and had no idea what to do. Took me less than 10 minutes to remove the cooktop, and I will be calling a repair company that knows what to do. Cancelled contract that day. Decided on joining the HomeSmart Program because my dad has been a member for many years and he has always received top-notch service. I joined and they had a special where you get three months free and a free furnace and air conditioning check up. Was very easy to make an appointment and I had to reschedule several times because of jury duty and it was very easy to make the changes. The customer service is superb (very friendly and quick). On the day of the furnace check, our technician was Randy ( so punctual, professional, knowledgeable, friendly and efficient). What a top-notch technician!! He did a very thorough check of the furnace (he was there for 1 1/2 hours). He noticed we had a very small leak and went ahead and replaced the entire pipe. My daughter asked how much it would cost and he said zero, zippo, nada!! This would have usually cost around $200. He gave my daughter a very comprehensive report and was very personable throughout the visit. Will definitely ask for Randy when the weather gets warmer so he can do the air conditioning check up. read more

You will call in and make a claim, then a Xcel account technician will never call, then you will spend hours trying to make contact, Xcel will ignore you and never call back. Then you will finally give up and call a private company to fix your problem. Xcel is the worst. Cancel this service because you will never see a benefit. read more

Xcel Energy dropped Homesmart and began using Homeserve for household repairs. Unfortunately, I got caught in the middle of the transition. I had Homesmart repair my hot water heating system. They require you to pay for the repairs and send them the invoices, which I did. Homesmart delayed reimbursing me until Homeserve took over and paid me only 1/3 of the cost of the repairs without any explanation. Now I can't get anyone in Homesmart to deal with it and Homeserve won't deal with it because the repairs were done before the switch over. I'm left holding the bag for over $3000. read more

0 stars for customer service and shady business practice. I initiated electric service for my new apartment online. First mistake because Homesmart appliance coverage was snuck into my request for new electric service. I am a renter and have no need for an appliance service plan. I own 1 tv so have no need for electronics coverage intended for a young family living in a large house full of people and electronics. The Homesmart charge did not appear on my first bill. By the time I saw the charge on my 2nd bill and called to cancel it, I was told I missed the 30 day cancellation window and was now locked into a 12 month contract. Furthermore, if I do not cancel next year on the renewal date, I will be locked into another contract. Since they refused to cancel this service contract, I asked to have a new electric account assigned without this additional service plan. Xcel said they could open a new account for me but that I am still locked into this additional service plan. Basically, I cannot purchase electric service in the state of Colorado without paying for this additional service which I have no need for. I am currently filing a complaint with the Public Utilities Commission because Xcel Energy is refusing me utilities coverage without paying for their additional service plan. Everyone needs electricity service and this is a great money maker for Xcel by refusing to cancel their add-off service plan and refusing to sell me electricity if I do not honor the terms of the service contract I never asked for. Moral of the story, read the 20 page "terms and conditions" before clicking agree. I suspect this is how Xcel was able to sneak this coverage into my simple request to establish electricity at my new apartment. read more

Called for service on my boiler last winter and they couldn't get to me for 2 weeks as it was not working and outside temp was below 0 degrees. Called for service today September 18, 2023 and it will be 2 months before they can get here. I'm sorry but this is bad. Still on hold for 45 minutes as I am writing this. Have a 6 year old refrigerator, that was part of the HS plan. Called as it quit dispensing water and was starting to be inconsistent in cooling. Took a few days to get a repairman, he diagnosed the issue, called and left a message to get the work authorized. This was on a Thursday, he never heard back for the authorization, called back Friday, still no call back. Calls on Monday morning, was told that the person who took the call, was somebody new and learning the position, closed my file, said I was ineligible for the fix requested and won't be getting any assistance for appliance replacement. This wasn't the first fix for this fridge. the last time, the fan died, you could hear or not hear the fan going. the person they sent then, replaced the motherboard bust still couldn't understand why the refrigerator wasn't getting any cooler. I called and another repair person came and said, "The fan's dead". Wow, two weeks without a fridge then. Hey, if you want the free annual furnace check-up, this isn't a bad plan, try to get something fixed that is money out of their pocket, good luck. My review is in regards to membership charges during and after a unit I was renting not about service technicians because I never needed any and little did I know I was paying for this membership when I transfered service to a new address. My previous address is owed by a large corporate rental agency and they took care of any requests. I've noticed months and months after I moved from my last location that I'm still getting a bill from Xcel and after researching I found bloggers writing about this program that customers are locked into until it renews in Jan 23 regardless if a customer moves or relocates to an area or different state where Xcel isn't an option. What the hell?! This is an unethical principal, if I must say and there's nothing I can do about it except pay the fees until the end of the year and hopefully I'll get an email with the option to opt out. This is straight up theft but it's ok because there's a contract that is backed by county attorney's who don't care that they are stealing from a new nurse graduate who's waiting to get her RN license so she can work to pay for that membership she isn't using or was aware she signed up for it. We have had this service since 2006. The service has made a slow and steady decline since we began. This past summer our AC had to be replaced they covered a paultry 1k of the cost and we had to use the installation company of their choice. Cost 5k. We truly saved Nothing! We called in September to set up our furnace to be serviced and the soonest appt they had was....drumroll...mid-January. Mind you we carry this service for two properties. I did ask my husband to contact them and ask what they would kick in if our furnace when out and that too was 1k. We have run the numbers and added in the fact that service times are horrible at best and after 15 years we will be dropping this service on both properties! Bye bye HOMESMART! read more

I am so disappointed in this program. We signed up and had a problem with our washing machine. The tech came out and said he couldn't get the part because the washer is so old. Then our fridge stopped cooling and we were on the phone for hours to get thru and get a reorder sound when we finally get to the right option. Called Excel and they transferred us but to the Minnesota office. It is impossible to reach these people. So trying to cancel now and that is not an easy task. I signed up for HomeSmart last fall. I have used the service 3 times. Twice for my boiler for heating my home and one for early season maintenance on my AC units. The technicians for HomeSmart are excellent. Far better than any other independent service I have used in Denver. One technician in particular is fantastic. Trevor Gill. He has been out to the house twice. He was very careful about being sure to wear booties. Completed the work quickly and did an excellent job. Additionally he explained everything he did and what might need to be done in the future. Service is the key to most any business. HomeSmart should be very proud of having an employee like Trevor. read more

Berto came out to service my furnace on a very cold negative 2 morning. He was very knowledgeable and figured out the problem very shortly after arriving. He went well above what he was required to do by checking out the entire furnace. I appreciated his work ethic and would request him if I have any more trouble with the furnace. read more

This service is worthless! Our A/C and furnace stopped working on 6/19/23 and we immediately contacted HomeSmart to schedule an appointment. The first appointment they could give us wasn't until 7/7/23. They stated that this was the soonest appointment and that in order to be eligible for coverage, their contractor would need to inspect and verify the damage. Based on the heat and humidity we are experiencing in Minnesota, we decided to get two estimates from other local HVAC services and had one of them install a new furnace and A/C on 6/21/23. I contacted HomeSmart today 6/23/23 and was informed that they won't cancel my services until the end of July 2023, because I'm on a one year contract. This is something that I have never heard of before since we first enrolled in December 2014. The rep informed me that we added additional appliances in July 2019, which adjusts the one year contract period to a new one. It doesn't make any sense that I should have to continue to pay for services through July. I asked the representative to escalate my call and he refused stating this is all he could do. I've had nothing but trouble with Xcel Energy Homesmart these last two years. The contractors they hire are NOT GOOD. They cancelled a repair call to my home to fix my air condition....Xcel home office said if it 90 degrees out MN statutes say that if it is within 20 degrees inside your home, they won't come out.....well my thermostat isn't working. Had a guy come out on Monday from 4Front Energy. Did nothing but check the pressure and clean off the screen. Didn't check the thermostat that even though I turned it down to 60 degrees it didn't budge off 73 except to GO UP to 75. Then Homesmart refused to come out and fix the issue.....4Front said Homesmart cancelled the service call....Homesmart customer service said 4Front cancelled the call.....liars! Until recently we have been very happy, but now they have too many subscribers, too little customers reps, the wait is atrocious on the phone, there is no followup from the telephone reps when you call for help, and it takes too long to get someone to the house for the repair. This company is a joke!! When you need a repair, plan on spending AT LEAST an hour on hold before you even talk to an actual person. This week alone I have spent 2 hours on hold...once to make the repair appt. and once to find out what to do because they cannot repair it and HomeSmart needs to replace the appliance. If you have to replace an appliance, plan on spending a WEEK waiting for an "approval letter" from management, and then 8 WEEKS to be reimbursed for the appliance you have to go out and buy. read more

I have 4 rental properties and will never use Homesmart again. BUYER BEWARE. I tried to cancel the service as I have a tenant moving out and I cannot get through. I pay every month literally cannot get an agent to cancel this service. I started this process in December and periodically call in the hopes of getting through. Hold times have been 20-25 minutes before I have to hang up. Its been over 2 months and I still haven't spoken with anyone. I emailed December 6th with this concern --- I received an email back that someone would get back to me and no one ever did. I finally gave up. I do get a bill every month however. Never again. When I lived in NJ, they had a public utility PSE&G and they were fantastic. Worked 24/7.if you had an issue they came out same day. They didn't gouge you or try to sell you something you didn't need because they were well paid professionals who worked directly for the utility. Fast forward to Colorado, unbelievably piss poor Excel and HomeSmart. Hook you up with a local guy whose has a profit motive and is lacking in professionalism to boot. Won't go to much into detail, but they had a guy they picked off the street to install furnace. Comes by himself with promise of "another guy" coming out. Went to open furnace to change Filter, eureka no filter slot,Just a wrong size filter laying flat. Promises from boss to fix it to my satisfaction. Ain't holding my breath. I called for service on my washing machine and it has a pedestal where the detergent and softener is injected. Was told they don't cover pedestal's like that but when I called service from Sears they said their appliance program would cover that. I called back XCEL and was told it WOULD be covered then received another call back that it WON'T be covered. To cancel XCEL I have to wait until the contract is over otherwise penalties! So every so often we have issues on our AC, because the house fights for different temps we like. Kelly has been out a few times and Always fixes everything, not to mention the part deliver came in under an hour and then he got back to install the part within 10 minutes! WOW talk about Great friendly customer service and goof problem solving! About over a year ago, we had an older thermostat and he fixed installing the newest better one. We are ALways pleased and Happy when service is done and they are always prompt and fast to get here when we call. Fantastic Service! read more

I have been a customer of HomeSmart for over 10 years. I will be looking for another company that covers appliances because this company is a rip-off. My water heater went out and was irreparable. Xcel was going to charge me $1200 just to install the water heater! I would be responsible for going out and purchasing a water heater. I was excited when I found out that the water heater was under warranty from Rheem. I had to pay $700 for someone to install it. Now the HomeSmart Program refuses to reimburse me $400 for replacement cost because the water heater was under warranty!!! read more
