Wynyard Hall Website's Home Page states it's facilities as:
"The premier venue in the North East for weddings, events, conferences and accommodations. Set in it's own beautiful and private grounds, Wynyard Hall has a charm and character that captivates all who visits. Unlike any other venue in the North East, guests feel relaxed and privileged from the moment they sweep over the lion bridge and the magnificent 4-star Country House Hotel comes into view until the time they leave."
The only portion of the statement that we as guests experienced truthfully was the beautiful private grounds. We were not captivated by charm and character due to Mr. Cuthbertson's (Operations Manager) presence and poor performance. I could have found another venue in the North East or in the United States that would satisfy my needs. I was never relaxed. I felt underprivileged and unwelcomed the moment I swept over the lion bridge until the time I left.
Wynyard Hall is very beautiful and exquisite to the eye and a wonderful venue to receive a captivating look and feel for an event. But do not be deceived. As for it's hotel accommodations and it's services, I was extremely disappointed and give the lowest star possible. If it were up to me, I would not give them a single star.
Here's the short version:
I was Maid of Honour for The Flynn-Lozano Wedding that took place in November of 2011. The Bridal Party resided in the private housing, The Lodge, the evening before the wedding and also prepared for the day of the wedding there. The night before the wedding (the evening that we paid for) we were without heat and hot water. No one on staff knew how to fix it, no one was able to come solve the problem and a manager nor wedding coordinator was available to contact until late the following morning, the day of the wedding. With other problems like no wireless internet (The Bride and her father and brother scheduled a video chat before she would walk down the aisle) we were delayed and stressed all day. They did give us our evening gratis, but offered us a full price for the second night. When I strongly suggested they devise another offer due to the exhaustion and frustration they put the Bride and her Bridal party through, Manager Neil Cuthbertson said absolutely not. I asked to speak to his supervisor and he told me he was unavailable because "He's a very busy man." When we were not seeing eye-to-eye, other foul answers he retorted towards me (a guest) were "There are other guests here, you know." and last but not least "This isn't America. You think we owe you something." Mr. Cuthbertson's lack of manners towards me made me feel he is a sexist, a man of impatience and a liar. We were never allowed to speak to anyone else and we had to pay for our second night, exhausted and humiliated by Mr. Cuthbertson. He is a disgrace and embarrassment to the rest of the lovely and wonderful staff we were blessed to work with.
This event that we attended was not a birthday party or an anniversary, but a wedding; a once in a lifetime event. We spent over 15 months to prepare for this special day and spent over £966.00 ($1,500.00). Wynyard Hall did not live up to the standards we prepared and paid for. Mr. and Mrs. John Flynn's Wedding took place on a weekday, not a weekend. Therefore, all of our basic requests should have been simple fixes and non-time consuming for both parties.
In perspective, we as unhappy guests were not very demanding nor ever pushy to the point of being rude or impatient with any staff member. What we were asking for was extremely reasonable and was always requested, never demanded. We were only expecting what we were promised by Wynyard Hall to anticipate. We were willing to work with everyone who was willing to work with us. Mr. Cuthbertson was the one staff member who forced me to loose my joy among other things.
The staff aside from Mr. Cuthbertson each deserve their own gold star. read more
