I've played Wyncote once or twice a year since it opened but this year I was very disappointed. I think it was overpriced for the condition. When paying the highest greens fees in the area I expected impeccable conditions but that is not what we found. Several fairways appeared to have some problems. I was disappointed to find some tee boxes with very little grass, lots of crabgrass on them and some marker positions not on level areas. The greens were slower than they should have been for a course of this level. When paying premium rates you would not expect to also have to pay for range balls to warm up. Other non golf related things that could be better are no beverage cart, hot dogs were not done at the turn, tee times were 15 minutes backed up before we started (we were a 7:51am time) and the pace of play was very slow. Gas powered golf carts should be replaced with quieter electric carts. I will have a tough time saying yes to playing here again. read more

This is one of the Worst / Best Public Golf Courses in SE PA. First time back in like 4 years. It just drives me nuts that this good track and layout (they've reversed the course routing), is so overly priced for how bad many parts of the experience is. $100/round for no GPS Carts, no grass seed containers to fix your divots, it's mid-June and the majority of the tee boxes are already chewed up. $1 bottles of water in coolers around the course - but no ice to keep them cool. Flags with no reflectors for your range finder. What am I paying $100 for??? I want to like it and play more, but I can't, not for $100 a round. read more

If you have not been to the new restaurant at Wyncote Golf Club, run don't walk because you are missing out! We have been numerous times and we leave happy and satisfied every time. Their handmade crafted cocktails are amazing. I am in love with the espresso martini. As for the food, every dish that we have had was a taste sensation. I had the shepherds pie and it put one of our local English Pub's shepherds pie to shame! And it's made with lamb, as it should be. We can not wait to go back! Well done Wynecote! read more

Ordered medium burgers but served raw enough to make my husband very sick the next day, throwing up and bed bound for the day. I had stomach upset and lots of burping following day. We blame ourselves as well for being in a hurry and hungry and demanding the burgers go back. I did bring it to the waitresses attention, she looked at them and got wide eyed. She was busy and I did not push it. Follow day after two messages the manager called me back and said the meat source is good and rare meat is ok. I do believe the meat good is source but parasites can knock you down sick. I asked for a gift card just for what my husband went through. I was told one be sent out and NEVER was, sadly. I do like and trust the restaurant, it was holiday time and busy. It is not good business practice to think someone is just looking to get a freebie and just blow off a customer. read more

I played golf at this club twice over Labor Day weekend. It's a great course and we had a great time, enough so that we made a second tee time. The second time we played we stopped after 9 holes for lunch. In the bathroom above the urinal there was a swastika with you he words "WHITE POWER" etched into the wall. We immediately told our waitress who just said "wow" and didn't apologize or see if she could do anything. We then started playing the back 9 and played through 15, but eventually didn't feel right continuing to play the course. We went back into the clubhouse (about an hour and a half after our lunch debacle) and saw nothing had been done about the slur in the bathroom. We figured at least someone could've quickly covered it with paper and tape. We told the clubhouse manager and he was apologetic. We still weren't satisfied and he asked if we were looking for our money back; we said yes. He said he didn't have the power to do that and we would need to ask the owner, who wasn't there. He then commented that he didn't know why we wanted our money back since we received the service we paid for, and that he was old fashioned and felt an apology should suffice. Personally I don't feel that having a swastika thrown in my face while I go to the bathroom is what I paid for. You can find a better place to spend your money. read more

We decided to give it a whirl. I have to mention it was an enormous full moon out but anyway we were surprised by the size of the crowd, the fireplace added some warmth to the room, we decided on soup and salads ( mine with tenderloin) slightly longer than average wait, but when the food did come out both soups and tenderloin were lukewarm at best, don't get me wrong the food was good but when it comes out it should be piping hot! I was tempted to use the fireplace to heat up our meal but didn't want to embarrass my wife, anyway there is potential there but they need a Gordon Ramsey type of personality to make things right. Played a round today for 4th of July. Simply put, it was amazing. This course is normally $99 per round but today they were celebrating 4th of July by only charging $45! What a steal! This course is so well manicured and groomed. The conditions were superb. The layout is fantastic and the course is a real challenge. I've played here about 6 times in the past 10 months and each time is a 10/10 experience. The moment you walk into the pro shop you are greeted by super friendly and courteous staff. They will offer advice on the days conditions and some helpful pointers, too! The practice areas are also well maintained and very nice. If you are looking for a private club atmosphere at a public course, look no further. Wyncote is an absolute gem. A+++ read more

Stopped by the Ball & Thistle pub last night. We stood at the doorway waiting (too long) to be seated in what appeared to be a half full dining room. As we were about to leave, someone finally approached and asked if we had reservations. We did not. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait. We left. Not a very friendly or accommodating place. Played the course for the first time. Despite the long heat wave, the course was in impeccable condition. Not a weed in sight. Lush primary rough. Immaculate bent grass tees, fairways and greens. Friendly staff and beverage service. Interesting layout. Very reasonable pace of play. read more

It was quite busy when you walked in around 1:00 for lunch. Ordered salad and hot sandwiches. The waitress said she would bring salad out first, never came. We finally got our food 45 minutes later and not how we ordered. So waited another half hour for them to fix it. Waitress did apologize and blamed it on being short staffed. Got our billed and very overpriced for quality of food and service. Didn't tip 20% and when I looked on my charge card statement waitress changed her tip to more. read more

In my humble opinion, Wyncote is by far the most challenging and no nonsense, no gimmick golf course in the area. Yes, it is more expensive...$49.00 weekdays and $79.00 weekends, but trust me, if you are a mid to low handicap golfer it is more than worth the price. Both the outgoing and incoming nines begin and end with par-5 holes. The first and 10th holes share a green and the fairways are divided by a lake, which represents most of the water that comes into play on the course. Many of the fairways are shaped and defined with mounded bunkers and moguls. And while few trees come into play, if you stray too far from the fairway you can get into some very wiry and high grass (heather) or go out of bounds. The greens don't have a lot of severe undulation, but they are small, hard and fast and provide more than enough putting challenge for even the most seasoned golfer. The first hole is one of those openers that can yield a birdie, but with water short and left you can also post a less attractive number to begin your round. It also happens to be my favorite. A big tee shot can give the longer hitter a chance to go for the green in two. The more prudent will lay up, but the closer you get to the green, the narrower the fairway. Lay back too far and you can bring a couple of fairway bunkers into play. This an indication of the kind of decisions you'll have to make all day. While it has it's share of "grip-it-and-rip" type holes, there are many that require a more thoughtful approach. The course provides all the accoutrements of a "country club for a day" experience. It has plenty of practice facilities, friendly greeters at the bag drop, informed starters and a well-appointed clubhouse and pro shop. read more

Very scenic course that is in fantastic shape. Tees, fairways, rough, greens are immaculate. Bunkers were not fluffy but it's a links style layout, those bunkers aren't supposed to be, but they are consistent and very playable. I really enjoyed this course. It measures out over 7200 yards and today it played all of it and then some. Make sure to pay attention to the winds, there isn't much to divert it out here so make sure you are factoring it in when you select your club. Thanks to Charlie for informing all groups the outing that was on course was behind schedule and hurrying them up to get regular play going. read more

From tee box to greens you will not find a better course. A fun manageable links style course. Lots of bunkers and soft sand. Challenging greens. Just hit them straight or your looking for your ball in waist high grass, while flicking ticks off you. Now the bad The carts are outdated ,no beverage cart. You pay for water on course, the pub has nothing to offer food wise at the turn. For $80 round you expect the lil extras. If a wet towel in cart or someone wiping your clubs at the end of your round. No ranger making the pace of play painfully slow. read more

Group in front of me playing at 5 hour pace, getting belligerently drunk, leaving all of their stuff behind, ruining the greens leaving the course unplayable and not a ranger to be found. Went to talk to manager about experience and nothing was done. Worst customer service I've seen at a golf course in 20 years of playing golf. Have pictures from course to trying to post. read more

I'm torn. Facilities: Nice clubhouse. Pro shop is large enough with a decent selection of gear. Cashier was nice enough. He helped a group in line in front of me tee off earlier, so that's nice (more on that later, though). There's a nice restaurant also, with a full bar and all that good stuff. There's a huge practice green and a decent range. First tee: I played on a Saturday afternoon in June. And not just any Saturday afternoon in June, but Father's Day weekend and also US Open weekend. So obviously, it was going to be a parking lot. But I was surprised when I got to the first tee that there were about 14 carts waiting in line and no starter. Thankfully, we were all cool people and figured out who went when on our own. Though I have to note that they booked two foursomes for the 2:22 time. An honest mistake, I'm sure. Oh, and that group of guys that the pro shop guy let go sooner? Well, now I know why - no starter, so what's the difference? Course: Pretty great. One note - i's not links like everyone says. It's heathlands. Google it. Basically, you can shoot a nice low number if you hit it straight. Go a little astray and you'll still shoot well. Go a lot astray and you'll need to hope you packed your graphing calculator. Greens appear to be undulating, but basically don't break. Just hit putts straight and you're generally in good shape. They were also slow the day I played, but I'm guessing that was an attempt to speed up play. Which reminds me, not a single ranger all day. Which is fine, if everyone's moving along. But as my round took just shy of 5 1/2 hours, a ranger would have been handy. The course is in immaculate condition, which is a huge plus. There was a cart girl, whom I saw once. When I asked for a few beers, she told me she was 'all out.' I told her really nicely to go back to the clubhouse. Not for me, but for her sake. If the round's gonna last all day, people want to at least have a tasty cold one. Or six. Overall: I really liked this course. It reminded me of a course I used to play back home in Michigan (Calderone). The lack of starter and ranger was a bit annoying. I mean, hey, I get it. The golf industry is tough right now, and courses are cutting costs every way possible. But certain things are just un-cuttable in my mind. Especially on a day when you know you'll be packed (or should know). I have a huge issue with slow golf, so my scoring wasn't awesome. But I'd love to have another shot at Wyncote. I'd just prefer more speed - faster greens, faster play, and a cart girl who has beer. read more

My wife and I decided we would try the Ball and Thistle club as we get their email ads all the time for dinner on Thurs-Sat nights. We drove down from the Kennett Area and found that the Ball and Thistle restaurant was closed and they were funneling everyone down to the pub. When we went downstairs we were told....." sorry, no reservation - no table" . Ok , I can understand saying it will be 30 minutes or 60 minutes, why don't you have a drink at the bar as we can see what we can do......but no, the response was sorry, no tables available see you next time. Hate to say, that was probably our "almost" first time and most likely our last. read more

Very scenic course, but don't get distracted. There are a lot of fun holes where you can score...if you hit it straight. You are severely penalized (lost ball) if you hook or slice it. We played on a Sunday afternoon and the the pace of play was a little slow with golfers looking for lost balls. If you plan on looking for your ball I suggest you wear long pants. The driving range is decent but not well marked as far as distance, and there is a nice size putting green right near the first tee. The food at the restaurant was very good but the service was a bit slow. We sat in the outside patio area with a great view of the course and setting sun. I would recommend this course and look forward to playing it again. read more

Great course where pace of play is completely unmonitored. Weekend rounds are typically in the 5+ hour range, with frustrating waits between every shot. During my last round there was a group of four high handicap men treating their round like it was Rider Cup play. Spending way too much time looking for their frequently lost balls in the course's abundant fescue. They were holding up four or five groups behind them. I never saw a ranger once during the round. Very frustrating. read more
