Wyckoff was a strange character right from the beginning. But I put up with it because he seemed to…read morebe no nonsense. Instead he is just a confused, rather OCD person. When we went to the deposition he terrified both my ex, myself and the other lawyer with this furious manner and yelling that suggested to me that he might be on the spectrum. Still, I stayed with him, though I felt there was something wrong. But I did start to feel that there was a distinct chance that he was making the negotiations worse. But that was only the beginning. Weeks later, my ex presented an exceedingly good offer (I would give her about 12% of my wealth for a short marriage). But Wyckoff informed me that it was about what I would expect if I went in front of a judge. Never having gone through this process before I believed Wyckoff, especially as he used this bizarre (and as I later found out, obsolete) method of calculating divorce payments based on inheritance. Based on Wyckoff's poor advice and looking to get more time with my two daughters, I rejected my ex's fantastic offer and we went to court. But once in court, I was destroyed. The judge literally multiplied the amount I was offered to pay by three. A difference of well over a hundred thousand dollars. Wyckoff said he was shocked, but in truth he just had no idea what he was talking about. Even the judge ridiculed him for using such obsolete methods. For me it was an absolute disaster. I ended up losing not just enormous amounts of money but ended up with a far less flexible deal, all from Wyckoff's mistake. In subsequent discussions with numerous other Boston divorce lawyers etc, I found out that folks generally felt that he was a bit off (as in mentally unstable) and didn't know what he was doing. Nevertheless despite all of this he decided to continue to send me bills for destroying my life. I told him I had no intention to pay for his malpractice...of course he flipped a bit and started yelling. And I collected numerous records to show that he repeatedly attempted to deny things that he had said previously. If I had the resources I would have sued him for the damages. But I was exhausted and hurt and so I cut contact with him. Working with Wyckoff was the worst experience of my life.

Purchasing a home can be a terrifying transaction. The paperwork is overwhelming, your hands become…read morecramped from signing documents, and this is all before the closing date! With my knuckles swollen and my fingers curled, I did my best to dial our real estate agent. Inevitably, there would be a couple of misdials before I finally reached him, and I apologize if any of those wrong numbers were you. With our agent on the phone, we asked him for real estate attorney recommendations. We trusted our agent's advice, since he had been in the real estate business for a long time, and he knew all the players. Without hesitation he came back with one name, Robert (Bob) G. McSweeney. I thanked our agent, iced my aching hands, and called Bob the next morning. Bob quickly got down to business, reeling off a seemingly huge list of documents he needed to review. Like our realtor, Bob was once a builder, so he asked to review the full real estate inspection report. This was a tremendous perk, and we really appreciated that expert eyes had a chance to critique this report. Bob asked me to provide him with the name of the lender's closing attorney as soon as we knew who it would be. When I told him it would be "____ ____", Bob replied sharply, "Oh geeze! Be prepared! This isn't going down smoothly. He's going to mess this all up!" Bob speaks in a bit of an intimidating monotone. He enunciates his words in a way that projects self-confidence. Therefore, at first, I assumed that he was simply ball-busting a friendly adversary. Perhaps he was, or maybe he was being brutally honest. The day before our closing, I was sitting at my desk, biting my fingernails on one hand while nervously squeezing a tennis ball in my other hand. My fingers were in Olympic condition...there would be no writer's cramp at closing. My phone rang and Bob was on the other end. I glanced at the clock; it was almost 4:00 PM. Our closing was at 8:00 AM the next morning, so I knew this couldn't be good. I closed my eyes, put my ear to the phone and heard, "Where the @!&% is the HUD statement? What is going on with your bank? This is not typical!" I placed a call to the mortgage broker and their attorney, and within minutes we were back on track to close. Bob kept the seller's and the lender's attorneys working late that night, making last minute adjustments and edits. The next morning, we arrived at closing having never met Bob McSweeney face-to-face. This imposing, larger than life voice on the telephone was actually a sweet, fatherly figure in person. The lender's attorney arrived wearing a suit that was far too expensive for his actual status in the field of real estate law. When he saw Bob, his expressions and posture changed, and it was clear to all that he had assumed a deferring, beta dog status in the presence of Bob. The lender's attorney managed to mess up a number of documents, as predicted by Bob. While the lender's attorney was frantically faxing and receiving faxes, the seller's attorney and Bob exchanged business cards. The seller's attorney had clearly enjoyed working with Bob, as had we. We've remained in touch with Bob since our closing, and he's assisted us with everything from real estate tax issues to refinancing our mortgage. Bob provides expert services at affordable prices. Being represented by Bob gives you a sense of security, and the feeling that no one is going to try to pass a fast one by him. His knowledge of real estate and real estate law, and his decades of experience make him an excellent choice for all of your legal needs. We wouldn't be represented by anyone else.
