Paul and Kay Crozier are the dynamic duo behind this latest venture. The vibe resembles that of a house party with 70s, 80s and 90s vinyls spinning away by their DJs. They are keeping it strictly old school. Biggies might not offer food here due to the lack of a kitchen, however, they do have expresso martinis on tap! I knooooow...on tap!!! They also have a popcorn machine and mixed nuts for those interested in a light snack. They have a local focus where all of their craft beers and wines are made in South Australia. Back to the lack of food, they do offer an alternative, where they will order in pizzas for you. Hmm...can't get anymore house-party vibe than that! Come check it out!

Set to feel like a side street in a town, you will notice a subway chair on entry and three small stores. First up a deli prepping cured meat awesomeness, next up a barber and finally a recording studio. And yes, there is a barber set up on Friday night to get a cut while you enjoy a few drinks. It is quite well set up and really does create a different feeling in a bar. You are stepping off Rundle Street onto another street upstairs. In the middle you will find a long bar and a range of booths. Bottles of spirits line the back and four taps for brews. The cocktail menu has some twists to old favourites. I went for The Dreamer as I am a whisky girl. It was a good cocktail, a little acidic and fresh. It was a good cocktail, but nothing that really stands out in a crowd for $20. Next time I will order the Old Fashioned which had some coconut in it from memory. Interesting. What I really like about this bar is the aesthetics. It's almost trying to create an experience that no one else is doing with the shop fronts. I think it's quite clever. The owner here is a real sweetheart and really trying to do something different. Give it a few months and I think that this bar will be pumping! Well done for effort and looking forward to see this bar grow.

We almost walked past it, it is only an entrance door and hidden between two eateries. Up the stairs you face a subway like waiting room and a 'secret' door. Heading through you pass a sandwich bar, barber and private DJ room. We moved on straight to the bar and were greeted by friendly staff and were quick to seat us at the bar, although there was plenty of seating as it was only around 7pm. The bartender knew his stuff and quickly made me 'Pistols at Dawn' a smashing mix of chipotle fused tequila with capsicum, lime and cucumber. It was absolutely amazing and so tasty. We got to talking to the bar staff and they really knew their stuff, making my partner a cocktail off the menu. The ambience was great, music was loudish but set the scene for the NYC style bar. The seats close to the windows offered some great people watching opportunities. The menu looked great, mainly snack food but offering NYC style pastrami sandwiches, they sounded so good-why did we just have dinner!? Definitely worth putting on your cocktail list - 5 stars for service and knowledge a 5 stars for taste and accuracy. Wish I could critique the food - maybe next time. This is a bar definitely on my plus list. This reminds me of the cool funky bars you get in London or even definitely NY and I would be heading back soon for sure.

It's very small and cosy - I went there on a Friday night and was surprised that it was virtually empty at 4pm. I was worried that I had chosen a place that would have no atmosphere but come 5pm, the place was packed! Lots of people and perhaps got a bit loud. Drinks were cheap (spirits for only $8!) and it was a good place for a drink. The staff behind the bar were friendly but perhaps just learning because she completely stuffed up a scotch, dry and lime. The feel of the bar was relaxed - not pretentious and where you could just go and be yourself. If you could get cheap and cheerful as a bar, this would be it - Just get there early to get a spot!

This year I think I got it right,no dumped the old, overrated Schutzenfest and went for some real German business. Old guys had string ties, furniture looked like something straight from Octoberfest and bier sticks lined the bar. All the menu goodies looked Germany and pretty reasonably priced and it will keep me away from some pickled cabbage. Beer was of the Bevarian variety and served in ultra large and long glasses. Think the mini yard glass. Walking in we were greeted by the boards of smiling faces having a great time and the message board letting you know how to get your German fix around town. Walk past this and you are created by a quaint reading room with a large range of worldly and aged literature. Don't stop now though, voilà, you have entered the downstairs bar. The TV had Lleyton Hewitt working his magic in the Australian Open and the service wench was ready to serve us our lager dreams. Her opening words were, "I didn't think I was going to see anyone tonight". Don't let that put you off though, upstairs the music was pumping with the sounds of a 'Soul' night. You can also sit at a booth upstairs and watch over the crowd, perch in one of the windows at the front or sit on stools at small benches. If you are someone who hates making decisions, this tiny hole in the wall, 65 person bar has already made half of them for you. Their simple menu includes 3 beers on tap and a selection of craft brews by the bottle, 3 whites and 3 reds by the glass, a selection of wines by the bottle and then any cocktail you request can be made. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable about all of the drinks on offer and make a point of telling you about what you are drinking, what it tastes like, or giving you recommendations. There are also only 4 food items on the menu - Coriole Olives, Pickels and 2 charcuterie boards made from The Charcuterie (a spin off from Lucia's Deli in the Central Market). We had the duck pate which doesn't sound or look that appetising but is actually not a paste but more of a shredded duck in pork belly fat goodness. The proscuitto platter again only came with bread and pickles but it didn't need anything else because of the quality of meat - it was a young cut of meat so not too typically proscuitto salty, very thinly sliced but still not bland. Now I have to warn all those typical Adelaidians our there who "refuse to line up." At 7pm on a Friday the line up was about 8 persons deep but we were inside within 20 minutes. Because this isn't a bar for spending hours and hours at people move in and out pretty quickly. So suck it up princess because CLT is worth the wait.

I recently visited the Grace Emily Hotel in Adelaide, a favourite Monday night hangout of mine…read morelocated at the south end of Waymouth in the inner west of the city. Monday night is open mike night, better known as Billy Bob's BBQ jam, an attraction for locals and tourists alike. Although quiet until about 9pm, the bar quickly fills and by 10 is packed with eccentrics, hipsters, aspiring musicians backpackers and international students. It is a quaint looking place, staunchly anti poker machine and one of the strongest supporters of Adelaide's local music scene. The walls are littered with 60's paraphernalia and objets d'art. During the winter time an open fire roars in the front bar, whilst during the summer people congregate outside in the beer garden out the back whilst waiting for the music to start. The cause of attraction is Billy Bob and his BBQ band. Performing perfect renditions of rock epics such as Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher" (including the choreographed guitar thrusts) and moody blues numbers Billy Bob and his band set the bar for subsequent performances, and return to the stage intermittently to support other acts. Subsequent performances vary markedly from week to week but are always entertaining. From aged local singer song writers to sprightly young punkers, 10 piece reggae bands to a travelling magician the line up is always full, different and invigorating. During the Chinese New Year I have even seen a full Dragon Dance performance. For those who wish to perform, it is advisable to bring your own instrument (with the exception of drums of course which are provided by the venue), although, on occasion, Billy Bob and his band have allowed use of their guitars to young and underprepared punters. You will need to approach Billy Bob (he's the guy with the cowboy hat) and get your name written down on the list. Everyone is welcome, so if you can play, give it a go. The sound is great and taken care of by an experienced professional, there are also a number of mics for multiple vocalists, horns etc. For those who prefer to relax, the front bar is a less hectic way to take in the vibe and have a chat. With friendly bar staff and a counterculture atmosphere the Grace Emily is a unique and wonderful gem in the city of Adelaide. Aside from the regular Monday night open mike night for which the Grace Emily is so well known, it hosts numerous gigs for local, interstate and international acts during the week and on weekends. And they have the full range of coopers on tap! What more could one ask for in a venue.

First of all, whiskey is native to the bluegrass state (KENTUCKY) and though whiskey is 'the drink' of the moment it's time too shall pass... Since the 1700s New Orleans is and has always been a rum city, but hey, why be bothered with the details or with authenticity, right? I mean who cares that the iconic poboy sandwich is supposed to be served on a French baguette (which could likely be sourced from another local biz just around the corner -Le Carpe Diem, Grenfell Street) when you could use a (possibly cheaper?) inferior Vietnamese roll? Back to the food: we sampled the fried chicken which was a very small serve for the price and it was accompanied by a mayonnaise 'sauce' - why is it needed? Is there bread to make a sandwich?!? Um, no. So, I gave it a go and found the sauce bland, tasteless, and utterly unnecessary. It's mayonnaise! With nothing else. Fried chicken in the States doesn't ever come with a sauce! Ever. Back to the chicken, it had a delightful crunch and was reasonably well seasoned but far too greasy. If served with grease glistening then it should sit on a piece of bread to soak up the oil OR should be blotted with paper. Not good. Next we had the Marlin tartar which was one of the few unique and creative takes on NOLA cuisine; it was presented on a crisp much like a Zapps' Potato Chip (for Western Hemi folks). This is something I can recommend without reservation. Then we sampled the rabbit stew - very, very tasty with just enough seasoning, however too much rice and not enough rabbit. One last thing, it is a total and complete sacrilege to have a Mardi Gras party on the first Friday of Lent. Pure and simple commercialization. If you can't do it on Shrove Tuesday, just give it up!
