The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. As there was no English menu, we required the waitress' help to translate certain items for us. She also helped by Recommending a cocktail which we all loved! (See picture) The food was all spectacular. We went with a 3 course option which included a choice of appetizer, entree and dessert. They offered a goat cheese option for both the appetizer and dessert and was surprised at how it was transformed into both a savory and sweet dish. My steak was cooked perfectly and was incredibly favorable. The dish the really stole the show for me was the Sesame coated sushi grade tuna which came with a wasabi cream. The fish was super high quality and fresh. Delicious! I will definitely be back the next time I am in Lübeck!!

And the cold roast beef with potatoes fried with onions and bacon. Good. Very tender beef too. Nice atmosphere and good service. At lunch you can enjoy the outdoor seating, but that area is closed at night. Indoors is fine and what I thought were pig dolls are really potatoes made to look like pigs or other characters.

It was an independent city state until 1937, the rumor goes that Hitler forced German sovereignty on the town after it refused to host a visit for him. The Kartoffelkelder fits nicely into the town culture. It's an authentic restaurant in the cellar of one of the town's many churches. The food was decent, I had a classic, the Wiener schnitzel, but unfortunately I've had better home in Copenhagen. The service was mediocre, but the atmosphere makes it worth a visit.
