With Mike Miles classes, you can do a variety of training, but the one I am going to comment on is specifically the cardio kickbox class. At first, I assumed it would be Tae-Bo like. I was COMPLETELY wrong. This class is run by Irene Miles from 1030 - 1130 am on Sundays. The class began with us jogging around the (small) fitness room. We then did a few series of lunges, squats and direction changes, as well as shadow boxing, pushups and planks. Then we chose a partner (not someone you know), and go to a boxing bag. One partner runs circles around the gym, or does jump squats, and counts to 20 while the other does another move on the bag, as per Irene's instructions. Repeat x5. Holy crap was it tough. We did so many squats, punches and pushups, my legs were shaky. I would not reccomend this class to people who are not decently fit, because it would extremely hard to keep up with the class, and your partner. The only bad thing is, we used gloves in the class on the bag (needed), and I didn't really want to buy any, but for those who don't you can use the ones in the lost anfdfound - which reek btw, but still you don't notice until after the class, in which I'd hope you wash your hands. The locker rooms is tiny, but hey, that's not a big deal. The staff are very, very friendly, and Irene is tough but a great teacher. The class was 75% females, and everyone was super nice and encouraging. This is something that I would consider continuing after my passes are up, as it's an amazing workout, and the place has a good vibe.

If this gym were not so inconveniently located for those coming from downtown after work, I'd…read moreprobably still be going. I've only tried the CrossFit classes here, but they also offer various martial arts such as Muay Thai and Brazilian Jujitsu. The facility is divided between a very large floor mat sparring area, a full sized fighting octagon, and a functional fitness area for CrossFit (pull up bars, barbell racks, jumping boxes, etc.). The men's "change room" consists of a small semi-closed off cluster of lockers in the main gym area. The women have an actual room. Being located in an industrial park, there is plenty for parking. The CrossFit classes at this location differ from the others I have tried insofar as they tend to be consistently focused on constant high rep, high intensity intuitive exercises (e.g. box jumps, kipping pull ups, push up pyramids, crunches) and a few barbell moves. This is in contrast to some other CrossFits where you can spend a significant portion of a class working on developing a particular "functional" movement like a headstand, barbell combos, or some kettle bell manoeuvre. If you're looking for an efficient calorie burning, stamina building workout class you can dive into without much of a learning curve, try this place.

From the first time he walked in the owner, Tim was so friendly and welcoming. I expected a bunch of crazy juice monkeys. Boy was I wrong. A big mix of people train here. Kids to grandmas and top athletes in between. Everyone has completely welcomed my son and encouraged him to stick with it. I'm excited to see my son progress and gain strength and stamina for his future in criminology. My son has taken advantage of their cross/cage fit classes in the morning. And his membership includes Jujitsu (or Muay Thai) which he'll start soon. We highly recommend this gym.

We all enjoy the vibe of an upbeat spin class, and this was a similar atmosphere except you get to punch a heavy bag to the beat of the music. The first class was complimentary and we paid $15 each for wraps that we could take home and use another time. The nicest woman assisted us to wrap our hands (I am actually unsure if she's a frequent Rumble boxer or staff but either way am very grateful, ha!). We were also eligible to book a free 1:1 session to learn about the technique but given we don't live in Calgary, we didn't do that. The studio was clean, modern, and easy to find on 17th ave. Pro tip - maybe use the bathroom before wrapping your hands..... Our instructor was Olsen or "The Rock" and he really WENT for it with the combinations. The instructions were clear and simple to follow. You can tell he loves boxing and music and just instructing people in general. Shout out to the guy in the spot in front of me because I copied everything he was doing haha. What a great way to sweat and start the day! I would totally do another class and my hope is that this franchise opens in the Toronto/GTA area one day!
