At 330 PM on the day of.the event, tickets were still being advertised as available. When our party of 7 arrived there was a very long line. As we are walking to the back.of the line we have event staff informing us the venue is at capacity and only if someone walks out another may walk in to the event. There were over 100 to 150 people in line, most claiming they had tickets.

They're local...and for 28 years they've covered businesses and individuals across Tennessee in brief, yet fairly comprehensive segments on a weekly show titled "Tennessee Crossroads." This timely and entertaining program of vignettes is hosted by Joe Elmore and the informative, fascinating, and revealing segments showcase everything from restaurants to museums, historic places, and craftspersons with unique skills. And they cover Tennessee from Memphis to Kingsport, Chattanooga to Union City. NPT is international ...carrying programming from BBC (most likely you've heard of Downton Abbey), or perhaps you're a fantastic amateur cook. If so, you should watch the Great British Baking Show. Oh what skills these amateur bakers have! And what polite and spot-on critiques of their impressive culinary work. NPT also carries other special international programs from time to time. NPT is arts-minded...opening for you a "weekly window" on visual and performing arts. There are history programs, commentaries from around the globe, and music from Bluegrass to Classical to Rock and Roll. And how about a trip down memory lane with throwbacks to music from the 50's 60's and 70s? Yep...hear it right here during special weeks. There is virtually no subject NPT hasn't covered...news, social and political commentary, entertainment, drama, Children's programming (a rich history of that, indeed!) and so much more. There is a little bit of everything offered here, from cartoons and kids programs to adult education and just plain old entertainment. I have only been listening for a few weeks, but it's been wonderful. I really don't listen to much commercial music -- pop, country, hip-hop, or otherwise. And even though I'm a Berkeley grad, I still never listened to their KPFA station and their indie music. Just not my thing. I'm also not an NPR fan. A former coworker played it all day. While it didn't drive me nuts, I was always playing podcasts in my cubicle next door to keep me from hearing most of it. I personally don't want to be emotionally invested in news -- I like it in short bursts. Having just the top news played for a few minutes at the top of the hour is more my style. So, this station has just the perfect blend of classical and news for me. Of course, your mileage may vary.

However I would recommend some other station for weekend listening. The daytime weekend shows, except for Kim Komando are basically hour long paid advertisements. I want to hear talk over the weekend too, not some real estate, mortgage loan, or chiropractor show. I feel they let the listener down in this. Overall at least for weekday listening they're great.

Out & About usually has more in-depth articles than the weekly gay paper (Inside Out). There are lots of ads and bar listings to let you know what's happening at all of the hot spots. It also has a feature on the Nashville GLBT Chamber of Commerce so you can find out about local businesses and their owners. If there's a gay or lesbian event, you can usually find coverage of it here. Out & About also has their movie and book reviews, a personal trainer who does a fitness column, and someone who lets you know what's going on in the art galleries in Nashville. There was a huge controversy when Kroger was going to distribute Out & About at some of its stores, then it pulled out, now it is available at select locations. It also seems to be available at most library branches which is where I usually pick up a copy. Out & About is a great source for GLBT information for Nashville and Tennessee. We're lucky to have such a great paper serving the community.
