This is one of the only stations that actually play what they say they will. It's great!

WRLT changed that! They are so diverse that i stopped making tapes and at times i would suffer musical whiplash with the changes in genre when the Djs were obviously enjoying themselves (Alice in Chains followed by Bobby Darin?), great stuff! Now thanks to the Intrawebs i can still hear my beloved WRLT streaming to Columbus Ohio... Keep on Rocking!

This radio station does more…read morethan broadcast great music, they are out and about all over town putting on shows, showcasing artists, and supporting the diverse local Nashville scene. They make it possible for up and coming artists to be known on the scene by playing their tracks on the air and putting them on a showcase. The Local Lightning Spotlight is a feature that showcases two local artists each week by playing their music between 2:40pm and 8:40pm for the entire week of the Spotlight. This is a great amount of exposure for any up and coming act. This kind of programing can only happen at an independently owned station. When you listen in to this program you can actually get an idea of what is going on in the clubs around town, and what bands are hot to go see. Another great show that makes Lightning 100 a five star radio station is the Sunday Night Live Broadcast of a Nashville band. The show broadcasts live from one of the many great venues in town. Recently the shows have been held at 3rd and Lindsley. This way you can see if the band sounds as good live as they do on their record. You can check their webpage to get all the details on their schedule. Tune into Lightning 100, 100.1 fm!

The authenticity that comes across from the djs is what is so compelling and keeps the station firmly on my car's first setting. Because of this I've been turned onto tons of new music, and have had many "OMG! I can't believe they're playing ---! Heart times a million, 91.1!" moments. Today, as I was cruising along 40 under the baking sun, I slowly began to realize they were playing experimental Impulse-era Coltrane. I have NEVER heard anything from Coltrane's later career on the radio, let alone here in the South, and it made me so frigging happy. The mood was perfect for my day and the drive and all was right with the world. And then. A couple minutes later the dj revealed that the owners of the station have announced that they are "considering" selling the student-run station. The only station I truly love. My WRVU. Sad face. Let's not let this happen. You can read about, and hopefully make an impact here: http://www.wrvu.org/?p=637

WRVU is the student run Vanderbilt radio station. This radio station is a breath of fresh air. They have a new program with a real live DJ every hour or every two hours. Some programs are 'talk,' some programs are hardcore rock, some programs are indie rock. Can you imagine a world with so little automation!? WRVU is that world. It's fantastic to listen to. Even if the genre isn't what I am into listening to, I still enjoy hearing the DJ's chatter away. Most of the DJs are on the ametuer side, which in my opinion makes listening even more fun, because these are real human beings we are listening to. There are a few veteran DJs who have some of the better 'drive-time' slots. They play some roots country music, and some blues in addition to great local indie artists. A couple of my favorite shows are: 'Grumpstown,' which is a Japanese pop show, 'The Peguin Parade,' which is eclectic dance rock, and the 'Rebel Music' show, which is reggae and ska. Go to the WRVU website to get their full schedule of shows. The station is broadcast from Vandy, so you can be assured you are hip with what the young kids are listening to. Since Nashville is Music City, I think this station really does justice to all the different kinds of listeners this city has. WRVU really has an great offering, so when you are in town, tune in to 91.1 fm!

"Nashville: Love Life. Love Music." -WRVW…read more I was tired of listening to the music from Youtube and turned on the radio to get something local. I landed on WRVW for a while and enjoyed the tunes as I drove through Nashville's awesome traffic. It's amazing how many highways join up and split as they pass through this big city! Dua Lipa, Eminem, Linkin Park, Miley Cyrus. It's not rock and it's not adult. It's Top 40ish pop and they seem to play a LOT of Taylor Swift. 107.5 is part of the iHeart radio conglomerate and they're happy to advertise for themselves and the big iHeart music festival that you can catch on other stations or win tickets. *eye roll* [Review 20072 overall - 428 in Tennessee - 1048 of 2023.]

Before I could find out if "A Prairie Home Companion" is part of this lineup, I quickly turned the dial. After half a dozen country music stations, I came across something that reminded me of home: a Top 40 station. Granted, the playlist will repeat itself after a couple of hours. And I was saddened that there wasn't a morning show. The music is solid, but not risky enough to try new releases unless other stations in other markets do so beforehand. But at least I won't be chewing my arm off if I had to endure "A Prairie Home Companion".

I'll go one further: I use the radio as my alarm. Yep. At night I turn my phone off and ignore it until I have to turn it on for the day. Until then, it's off. I don't charge it. I don't check it during the night. And, looking at it is not the first thing I do when I wake up. So, without a phone for distraction and an alarm, what is someone to do? Use a radio alarm and start the day in a good mood. I 'discovered' 102.1 (The Ville!) by accident as I was tuning my radio away from a nearby station. As I did so, I heard 'Doo-Wop (That Thing).' I hadn't heard that for a minute, so I stayed on the dial. Then I heard 'Real Love.' By the time 'If' played, I knew I had a new favorite, local station. As odd as it is to write, '90s R&B is now a part of 'old school.' Sigh. As generations have noted before, these kids don't know what music is, so to have a station that plays everything from Sam Cooke to Earth, Wind & Fire to Amy Winehouse and can go six songs deep without the first 'let me step away and do something else before the next song comes on' is a modern day mass media miracle. But, The Ville doesn't *only* play (90s) R&B. There's plenty of funk, soul, pop, and melodious hip-hop (not the one-track mumble nightmare the chirrun listen to these days). Nashville radio can skew a bit one-sided (shocking, I know). It's beyond refreshing to find a station like 102.1 The Ville. It puts a pep in my step and a smile on my face. From The Supremes to Stevie and from Chaka to Ciara, I'm so glad to know there's a station that can keep me engaged from morning until night. I don't even mind the incessant station identification. Even *that's* a bit of a refreshing callback.

The morning show gets tampered with a lot in a negative way (this was also prevalent in a lot of political stations). I am a driver so in car to witness a lot more than standard person. This was present in Mazda and now brand new Honda. Mazda was worse as I had hooked up phone to vehicle and just couldn't escape it. Honda has more stations that are clean. This station sometimes has talks to where the 3 people are talking able sexual content that is definitely not standard radio. They mention penis' and genitalia multiple times. Again I do not think it is the radio hosts that are scheduled. There have been times when commercials interfere as normal whereas when content is dirty there are no commercials. No phone has been set to new car. I think this occurs via satellite possibly car computer?? There seems to be a difference in screens as to when hacked and not. When words present of station it seems clean versus not. See photos below for example. This has also been used in the form of harassment with verbiage. It is definitely targeted. I believe they get initial content of individuals via their phone. In Mazda they talked about things in my phone via car stereo. I'm concerned this is linked to sex trafficking and homelessness.
