Awesome bacon sandwich! The prices are reasonable and the owners are very nice. Right next store to the Old Bldg. at LSE.

If you don't have a lot of money, and you want a lot of food, there is no better place near Holborn than Wright's bar. It's on the LSE campus near the old building, off Aldwych. The people working there also own the place, and they're an Italian family. How an Italian family came to own a little sandwich place on the LSE campus is a mystery to me, but I reckon it has something to do with escaping from cosa nostra. To give you an idea of prices: nothing is more than 3 pounds. You can get a big packet of chips for 95 p, and all the sauce you want. A cheese and pickle sandwich is 1 pound, while a cheeseburger is 1.40. The place is insanely cheap, and everything is made to order. The older Italian lady reminds me of my grandmother, but with a sassy Italian twist. She calls everyone "darling" and tells hilarious jokes in Italian that I can't understand. Or maybe she's just making fun of me. Nothing more to say, except that Wrights is the cheapest food in London and where everyone at LSE goes. read more

Wright's bar was a staple for me during my time at LSE (2010-2013) and I always try and stop by whenever I'm in Aldwych. You don't have to be an LSE student to visit, and don't be put off by the queue outside- it moves fast! Very limited seating inside - I would recommend getting your food to go anyway, unless you like sitting next to a fryer. Disclaimer: Wright's isn't just a sandwich shop; it's an experience. Once you get inside think fast and always, ALWAYS respond to the phrase "saltpeppermayonnaise" shouted at you at quick speed. Staff are very friendly in spite of it being chock-a-block 99% of the time but they have to work fast to serve all the customers. Where else are you going to get a piping hot cuppa and a BLT (+ fried egg) bap the size of your face (no word of a lie) for under £3.50 in total? IT'S INSANE HOW CHEAP IT IS. 45p for a cup of tea, come on you'll be stupid not to. That being said, their maths isn't a strong point - I went there and bought the same bap nearly every day for 3 years, and I don't think I paid the same price for it once. For the chocoholics I recommend the tiffin slice - delicious and a very generous portion for costing so little (either £1 or £1.20) Wright's bar lady that calls everyone 'Dah-ling' - my heart goes out to you. read more

One of my favourite spots in London! Prices are ridiculously (not cheap) fair! For example, 60P for a styrofoam cup of coffee, latte or cappuccino. Just over a pound for a delicious sandwich on ciabatta. Basically, you're getting warm, homemade food prepared with lots of love and kindness for the price of a meal deal at Tesco or Sainsbury's. Wright's is cheap, and it's a favourite haunt of many LSE students, but that's about all that's going for it. I've had many a bacon and egg sandwich here before. It's always slathered in grease and salt, which I like sometimes, but it's just excessive here, to the point where it's impossible to eat a simple breakfast sandwich without dripping grease everywhere. The fries are cheap, but I don't even want to think about the number of times they've been recooked. They get soggy in no time at all and somehow they're never seasoned so you have to just coat them in salt and hope for the best... Coffee is bad, which has already been pointed out. But hey, it's the cheapest food around, so if you've only got a quid on you, Wright's is always there. read more

Wright's Bar is almost a rite of passage for any LSE student. Scrambling to get some cash out (no cards accepted), squeezing through the tiny door and getting called 'darling' by the lovely lady behind the counter are all just part of the slightly chaotic, yet entirely unique experience of getting a meal from Wright's. The sandwiches are cheap and generously filled. Prices vary depending on the fillings you choose, but nothing will set you back more than £2. Their crowning glory of course is the chips - greasy, slightly crispy and very good. The size of the boxes have been diminishing every so slightly over the years but you can't complain because it's only £1 and you're allowed to drench them with as much sauce as you want. And if you have some space left after all of that, get a millionaire slice. Your taste buds will thank you. Best part is you don't have to be a LSE student to get this cheap, filling food. Just bear in mind that the staff do tend to get quite grumpy about people sitting in unless you are getting a big plate of food. read more

I used to despise this place because I thought it served terrible cheap food, but I realized it was because I didn't order correctly! To have a satisfying 5 star meal at Wright's (for under 2£ usually) you must walk through the door with cash in hand and know exactly what you want without asking too many questions. I usually get a chicken sandwich roll with everything and it's 1.50£. A large carton of chips (fries) are 1£. No credit cards. Leave happy full not broke and probably with a belly bulge. read more

Working nearby means that I eat at Wrights a couple of times a month. Their fried egg rolls with bacon and ketchup go down a treat after a heavy night and for less than £2 you can't go wrong. The staff are really friendly, and even though it can look a bit haphazard inside when you're wanting service - as it's hard to tell who's been served and who's waiting to be served - as long as you shout your order and pay the money your food shouldn't take too long to be with you. read more

Wright's is a staple to the LSE crowd. It is incredibly cheap, thus the students stand in line for ages everyday at lunch, so you're probably better off trying to avoid peak hours. They are a greasy spoon, and have the usual selection of hamburgers and sandwiches, fries, etc. Its decent food, and you can get a burger and fries for about three pounds. When you do make your way inside, you'll quickly be assaulted by one of the people behind the counter, so make sure you know what you want! Also, the lady always seems to get my order wrong, so watch what she tells the cook, they don't like having to re-cook things. If you don't tell them you want to eat in they'll assume you want take-away and they'll yell at you if you try to squeeze into one of the two booths at the back. So maybe not the best service, but when you have a grease craving, you certainly can't fill it cheaper in central London! read more

Awesome place that won me over with the affordable prices. I mean, the food is of high quality too but it's just unimaginable how low they charge for the delicious sandwiches they make. Cheeseburger was amazing and the amount of chips I got was way more than I could devour on one seating. The prices here are insanely cheap for central London and what you get is decent, basic food. If you want chips, a fried egg, toast, bacon, rolls and so on for as cheap as possible then this is the place to go. It's really best for takeaway, though, and I wouldn't bother trying to sit in as it's tiny. I also think the layout is a little awkward as they've got all the ordering at the front door so you just have a big mass of people standing around at the entrance waiting for their order. When it's busy I don't even bother going in for that reason as you have to queue out into the street and fight your way in. Overall you won't find any cheaper food around here if you don't mind it being pretty basic and having to brave the queues. read more

Because of said cheapness, there's usually a line out the door, but if you're a poor student, it's worth the wait. Warning: they'll slather butter all over your sandwich unless you specifically ask them not to. This is a five-star review that should be taken with a grain of salt: Wright's is good at what it's good at, which is serving halfway decent, incredibly cheap, warm and filling food. If you go expecting gourmet dining, you'll be disappointed. If you don't spit out your order when asked, you'll be yelled at. If you pay more than £5 for your entire bill, you're doing it wrong. Cheap and cheerful and food is not bad at all as the student queues at LSE can attest. Best thing is the 0.95p chips - thinly cut, crispy, and with lashings of garlic mayo and sriracha sauce and the 0.45p tea! Lifesaver for students! read more

Best go to place if you study at LSE! They have super cheap burgers here! Make sure to get the beef burger and add an egg in it because it tastes amazing! :) it's way better than the cafés in school! Make sure to get there fast cause the line gets long if you go at peak times read more

Don't go here - don't support this business. The food is average, and made worse by the awful, sexist service. Recently got food to go, and went back in to grab a napkins and a fork. The male employee (or owner) came up to me, took the cutlery from my hands. Before I had a chance to say I had ordered food earlier, he grabbed my arms and pushed me towards the door. He should not treat any patrons this way, especially not a younger female customer. Plenty of better places on campus / in the area, with better food, comparable prices and respectful employees. Don't patronize Wright's bar. They don't deserve your business. read more

Wrights is on the LSE campus but anyone can go - just off Aldwych - and is great. Really cheap, hot, good food. Better to take out rather than eat in as it's super small in here. Don't be put off by the queue down the street - it goes really quickly and you won't find cheaper nearby. read more

Wrights serves up a range of greasy spoon options, together with pretty decent sandwiches, at very low prices. At lunchtime you'll see a big queue outside of hungry LSE students. It's a great place to come for breakfast - bacon, eggs, toast, whatever you want. Wright's bar is located on the LSE campus and is very popular among students because it's really inexpensive. It took me a while to try out because I hardly ever ate on campus, but would bring lunch instead as I was usually relatively broke. So it wasn't until exam time that I went there. I have gone back several times for the cheapest on campus tea and coffee, and for the occasional sandwich. The people who run the Wright's bar are super friendly and work hard, but most of the food is too greasy for my liking and the deep fried food that is sold makes me sad. I wish there would be a bigger focus on cheap but healthy food. read more

This is one of the cheapest food options at the LSE. You get good value sandwiches and breakfast, as well as hot drinks. It's certainly not a gourmet restaurant, but you get fed and it is good for the price. It can get quite crammed at times and the door is a bit too small to acommodate both the queue and the people trying to get out. The staff work very efficiently and are very nice, but the emphasis is on efficiency during the busy times. read more

I used to work at the LSE between 1974-77 and Wrights was there then. It provided good cheap food to a lot of the staff and students then, I guess it still does well by those wanting affordable food. read more
