Had a pipe entrance and gate built by Wright Fencing based on positive recommendation from a work colleague. Turns out that results seem to be quite variable based on the crew doing the work, It appears that given the distance from their shop location (I'm a couple of hours away to the east), a sub-contract crew was dispatched and this crew was definitely not the "A-team". Bulk of work was done over a three day period, all on-site and with crew working till about midnight each day. Result looks like it was built in the dark even after multiple return visits to try and clean things up. My opener (provided by me after ok'd by the contractor) can't function with the gate due to the gate exceeding the weight recommendation (gate was designed to be about 300 lbs but as fabricated is over 500 lbs). After multiple back and forth, Wright's response is basically "not my problem". Below is observations from two contractors I had come out to assess remediation options... Consensus opinion is that the gate wasn't fabricated by professionals as there are some fundamental issues with the build that shouldn't have occurred if performed by knowledgeable fabricators... - There is no push bar for the operator to push against. The operator is attached directly to a picket. When the operator pushes, the picket flexes and twists. Even if the operator had sufficient torque to move the gate the stress will break the welds in a short time. A typical gate build has a push bar that spans the length of the gate and transfers the force to the far end rather than the attach point as in this case. - The operator is mounted at the mid-point (height) of the gate. A typical operator installation would be about 12 inches above the lower bar. Directing the operator force at a low point on the gate provides more leverage and improves longevity and force. - The hinges are not properly secured; they aren't tied into the post, rather simply tacked with an edge bead and will not support the gate weight for any significant period of time. Also noted that the grease fittings were painted over and filled with paint so no way to lubricate. - Gate is quite heavy, estimated in excess of 500 lbs. - Gate was clearly built on site and shows that it was built in the dark on an un-level surface, not something typically done for an ornamental driveway gate. - pickets are every 4 inches, typical would be every 6 inches. This contributes to about a 25% increase in gate weight. - Arches are not "rolled", rather appear to be hand formed using "cut, score, bend" which results in a non-uniform and wavy appearance. - vertical pickets aren't reasonably well aligned - Gate frame is mitered at the top but not at the bottom; bottom rails are butted joints and vertical rails aren't capped. Moisture will get in and rust the gate from the inside. - Gate wasn't primed before painting and paint isn't uniformly sprayed. Paint is already bubbling in places and joints are starting to rust. - Wiring was not run in a "neat and orderly" manner. Typical install would mean punching a hole in cross-members and making horizontal runs inside the pipe to hide wires. - Multiple evidence of "splices" resulting in a wavy, non-uniform appearance and contributing to an overall "tacky" perception. - Gate lock was installed mis-aligned. Latch is higher than receiver and looks to have been bent down to try to align but has relaxed and lock now rubs and binds. - Keypad mount is poorly attached. Looks like a piece of metal was "bent around the post" then secured with one screw and tack welds. Even though it wasn't in scope, they also pointed out issues with the non-gate related build. Biggest area of concern is the bowing of the longer rail runs. It appears that the pipe wasn't cut properly and "pounded into place" resulting in bowing of the pipe. Risk is that welds start to crack over time so it does raise the question on how long you warranty the work. Net is that there are multiple reasons the current operator doesn't work and just replacing with a stronger operator isn't going to address the problem for any meaningful period of time. I'm going to have to spend $1,500 to have another gate built due to this unprofessional work and would not recommend this company. read more

The large yard I asked them to mow was done the same afternoon that I contacted them. Because it was after 5 pm I assumed that they couldn't get to it the same day. They worked until after 8 p.m. to get it done. I thought this service was uncommonly quick and thorough. I will use them again. read more
