Costco Optometry

Costco Optometry

We all know Costco as the store where you can buy a bag of spaghetti that will last you the rest of…read moreyour life. But they also sell discounted airline tickets, a hearing center and vision center. Costco is big enough that they can select only the best vendors-also tested by the millions of Costco shoppers daily (and if a product doesn't sell, they get cut!) We have been to the Costco Vision Center in Hawthorne, CA. and had good experience (though the glasses make my eye muscle pull and cause eye strain but no one could tell why) so decided to go again in El Centro, CA. They don't have an optometrist yet but gave us a card for one that works out of the Costco optometry office on Saturday and Sunday. I did a separate review for Guru Sharma, Optometrist since he is only 'associated' with Costco. You see the huge wall of frames and sunglasses on the wall of the Vision Center when you first walk up. They have a large selection in a wide range of prices, from economical to designer brands. I actually picked a designer brand last time because they looked so nice and am just going to replace the sunglass lenses. They are really tough because I am rough of glasses-I hang them on a glass lanyard so I don't lose them and they get caught on counters, get food dropped on them and bump them when I carry groceries. So Costco choices of glasses pass their test for quality. I have worked with 3 different employees that work at the vision counter. All of them must have been trained really well because they could answer all my glasses which were very complicated. Every single employee seemed to know their job well-including helping to figure out what went wrong with my last glasses. They order the lenses from an offsite lab but only take 5-7 days to get. I would definitely recommend Costco Optometry. They do a great job with great prices.

Who would have thought a legit LASIK place would exist in the Valley?…read more I was born and raised in LA, and if there's one thing I've learned about the Valley... it's that finding a good doctor sometimes feels like winning the lottery. Because of that, I usually don't even bother seeing doctors locally -- it's just too hard to find someone who actually cares. I've wanted LASIK for YEARS. But every single time I planned it... I was pregnant. ‍ Timing is everything, apparently. Before finally committing, I went to two consultations in San Diego -- one at LASIK MD (which is now closed) and another in La Jolla. Both quoted me around $5k-$6k. After doing what can only be described as FBI-level research (Reddit, reviews, forums, probably a conspiracy board or two), I discovered that one of the best LASIK doctors actually works out of the Valley a few days a month. Wait... what?! In this Valley? I went in for my free consultation with Patty, who was super helpful. She explained that the actual surgery is done in San Diego, but all the pre-op and post-op appointments can be done locally in the Valley. Honestly, that's a perfect setup. Let's be real: this is LASIK. If someone messes up even a little... you go blind. So saying I did "extensive research" is an understatement. I read horror stories, success stories, stories about people seeing halos, UFOs, their ex's red flags -- everything. Surgery day came and... zero wait. None. I was shocked. The procedure itself was painless and took maybe 3 minutes. I've had longer Starbucks orders. For context, I was considered legally blind before. I've worn glasses since I can remember. Now I have perfect vision and it still feels weird. I keep reaching for glasses that don't exist anymore. No more wiping oily fingerprints off my lenses thanks to my kids. No more foggy glasses. No more smudges. No more "where did I leave my glasses" panic at 6 AM. Huge shoutout to Dr. IP and his team. I never had to wait, the staff was amazing, and the entire process was smooth. Also... why don't they advertise this more?! This is honestly life-changing. Best part: No side effects. No pain. No dry eyes. No more astigmatism. No light sensitivity. I took a nap after surgery and about 4 hours later I could already see pretty clearly. The next day it was even sharper. Imagine waking up and just... seeing. No glasses. No contacts. No squinting like a confused raccoon. 10/10 would laser my eyeballs again.

I got a prescription for my severe dry eye, but they made a mistake with authorization so I wasn't even able to get the medication! Furthermore, the person that handles the prescriptions left early so I couldn't rectify then situation. Thanks a lot! The person that administered the eye drops for dilation also put way too much in and I wasn't able to get anything done the entire day. Everything about this place sucks and I'm never going back. I'm not letting anyone in my family go here either.

My husband and I needed a new eye exam and glasses and Costco only has an optometrist on weekends…read more We really liked the optometrist at Costco last time in a different city so I thought I'd try it, here, in El Centro. We made an appointment but stopped in Costco early to get a few things-like anyone only gets a FEW things at Costco. We went by the optometry office and they had an opening immediately so took them. We filled out the form and were taken right away to do a couple tests. The doctor brought me in and the visit was quick. I brought up a problem I had with my last glasses that caused my eye to strain. He didn't really answer me. My husband went in and was also quick. [We weren't having the glaucoma test that day where they have to dilate your eyes so it was quicker than regular] We got our prescriptions and went out to the eye glass counter. Hubs had picked his glasses before so he went up to the counter first. I spoke to an associate who looked up my record and checked a few things on my last glasses and distance of my pupils. The measurements came out close enough to my last prescription (and new one too) so she had me talk to the doctor one more time to discuss the problem. He discussed it with me and said I shouldn't have a problem with the new one. So I ordered new glasses and they will come in in 5-7 days. They came in less than that and the glasses are absolutely PERFECT! The prescription is perfect and I have no more pulling on my left eye! I am so happy with my new prescription and glasses. I do recommend Guru Sharma for your optometry needs. He does a great job on testing your eyes. Just make sure you go over any questions you may have so you get all the answers.
