Misdiagnosis, Unauthorized Service, and Refusal to Adjust Bill !!!…read more I brought my vehicle in for a grinding noise that occurs when turning and gets louder under acceleration. Instead of diagnosing the actual issue, the shop told me the problem was the rear differential fluid. Rear differential fluid does not cause grinding during turns, and this service did not address the issue I came in for. I am the owner of the vehicle and did not authorize the repair. My boyfriend approved it without my consent, and when I explained this, the shop refused to adjust the bill or even mark the invoice as "paid under protest." I was charged $240 for a rear differential fluid service that normally costs $60- $90 and does not diagnose or fix the symptom I reported. After performing the incorrect service, the shop told me I still needed to go to Ford for a TSB diagnostic -- meaning they did not actually diagnose the problem. I am now out the money for this service, plus the cost of Ford's inspection, and still have the original grinding issue. I asked for a reasonable adjustment due to misdiagnosis and lack of authorization, and the owner/manager refused. This experience left me paying for a service that did not resolve anything and was not the correct procedure for the issue I brought the vehicle in for.

I was looking for a good mechanic near my new house and a few people in my neighborhood recommended…read moreRobert's. I took my truck in because it needed a new idle air control valve (computer was throwing code). Since it was my first time at the shop, they said they would go over everything... about an hour later they called with over $4,500 worth of recommended fixes. I know a lot about cars and immediately there were some red flags. 1. New front brakes were recommended because they were in the "red zone" 3mm. This was odd because I had replaced brakes and rotors less than 20k miles. 2. New ball joints and control arms were recommended. They actually said "we don't want them to fail when you are driving" Again, this was odd because they were replaced 30k miles. 3. Back shocks recommended because one was completely "bad". 4. Front axle seals because all of the front grease had already leaked out. I was pretty upset. I take pretty good care of my truck and this was not something I wanted to hear. The red flags made me want to get another opinion from my old mechanic who I now live 45 minutes from. He went through everything and found no issues whatsoever with anything that was found by Robert's Automotive. The front brakes were at 6mm, the ball joints were completely fine, the rear shocks showed no sign of leaking and were functioning properly. I was looking for an honest mechanic and found the opposite. For now I'll continue to travel 45 minutes for honest and fair automotive work.
