I can't imagine having had a better team working to bring me back to full health. I was in a bike accident back in December that severely dislocated my thumb. An ER doctor set/splinted it, and I went off to hike mountains across the world. When I came back to Chicago, a month after the accident and "re-set", it was still swollen, intensely painful, and unusable. I looked up Dr. Cohen with some Googling, and was immediately set up with an appointment. The entire staff at Rush Medical was professional, timely, and efficient, much like Dr. Cohen himself. The facility is gorgeous and easy to navigate, as well. He quickly assessed the damage and set me up for surgery, which, to my understanding, was fairly complex, involving re-arranging ligaments. As a side-note, they had originally scheduled my surgery for Water Tower Place, but Dr. Cohen's team realized that my insurance wouldn't apply there, and re-scheduled very quickly for the Rush facility, which my insurance did cover. Surgery went extremely well-- great facility, great anesthesiologist, great nurses, and of course, Dr. Cohen is a fantastic surgeon. He and his staff set a very clear post-op recovery plan and were very communicative, making sure that I knew what needed to happen and when. I'm back to full use of my thumb, which is hugely important to me as a very active person and frankly, borderline miraculous given the amount of time that elapsed between injury and actually fixing the problem. Dr. Cohen and his staff never wasted my time, were clear, friendly, and honestly, I can not fathom having had a better team taking care of me. Highly recommended.

By the time I drove into the city to see him, I had already seen 2-3 other doctors regarding my severe ulnar-sided left wrist pain. Each previous doctor I was seen by told me that I had tendinitis and that I needed PT. I knew what tendinitis felt like, and this wasnt it. So, when I made an appointment with Dr. Cohen, I was excited at the prospect of finally finding out what was going on with my wrist. Well, he spent a total of about 5-10 minutes with me, eventually telling me there was nothing he could do for me that the other doctors hadnt already discussed. I was crushed. I could not believe he wasnt listening to me. I may just have been another patient to him, but this seriously affecting my life. I felt as if he blew me off. After his appointment, I went to a local doctor in Munster, IN. She was terrific, and listened to what I had to say. She ordered an MRI Arthrogram and BOOM, a tear in my TFCC was discovered. She performed the surgery for me. Im not trying to say Dr Cohen is a bad doctor. I just wish he would have listened to me and not treated me like I had no idea what my body was telling me. I was a patient of Dr. Rock for approximately a year for chronic low back pain and underwent…read moremultiple procedures, including injections, RFA, and surgery. My issue is not with Dr. Rock's procedural skill, but with the required monthly follow-up care handled by his sole RN. Across every visit, the RN was consistently argumentative, scolding, and condescending. Rather than collaborative or supportive pain management, appointments felt punitive and adversarial. Virtual follow-ups routinely involved being talked down to rather than helped. At my most recent visit, opioid compliance and urine testing had already been addressed. When the conversation shifted to next steps and possible treatment options, I was told there was essentially nothing else that could be done for my pain. The interaction escalated to the point that I ended the appointment early due to her tone and behavior -- not due to refusal of compliance or requirements. Following that visit, my long-standing medication for chronic pain -- a medication that should not be stopped abruptly -- was not refilled despite the RN being aware that I had run out. This felt retaliatory and placed my health at risk. Patients should never feel that medication access is being used as leverage following a contentious interaction. Pain management patients are already vulnerable. Being required to interact monthly with a staff member who is dismissive, combative, and unsympathetic ultimately made me feel unsafe continuing care at this practice.

Calling to schedule a neurology appointment for my father was already stressful enough given his…read moremedical condition. Unfortunately, the experience became even worse because of the receptionist, Olga. From the start, her tone was rude and dismissive. I am authorized to schedule appointments for my father, and while trying to do so, she repeatedly asked me for insurance codes and terminology I wasn't familiar with. I explained that I had the insurance information and referral, and that most offices simply verify the details themselves. Instead of helping, she continued speaking in insurance jargon and placed me on hold multiple times. At one point, she told me she couldn't access the insurance information herself. Minutes later, she somehow had all of my father's insurance information available through the referral that had already been sent. The entire conversation was unnecessarily confusing and frustrating. She then accused me of being rude. I was not rude--I was direct because I was on a short break at work and simply trying to get an appointment scheduled. There is a difference. What happened next was the most concerning part. After providing my father's information, I was told they would not be scheduling or seeing him because of my alleged behavior toward the receptionist. I was shocked. This is a neurology office where patients often wait months for appointments and are dealing with serious medical issues. Caregivers already have enough on their plates without being treated this way. Before writing this review, I read other reviews and noticed multiple complaints about rude front desk staff. Based on my experience, those concerns appear to be valid. I cannot speak to the quality of the doctor because we were never given the opportunity to become patients. The physician may be excellent, but the front office experience was so unprofessional that my father was effectively denied access before ever being seen. Very disappointing.

Lumbar spinal disc degeneration is no fun. One of the worst things you can do if you have this…read morecondition is participate in high impact sports such as running. I used to run 25 to 30 miles a week and did this for about 8 years. Unknowingly at the time, my lumbar spine and hips took a beating. I received a lumbar spinal fusion in 2001, and had complications (lumbosacral root disorder, hip spine syndrome and arthritis). Those complications led to my falling and sustaining 5 concussions (post concussion syndrome) in the last 2 years, and using a walker and a cane for mobility. Dr. Eric Ericson is my neurologist. I selected him after researching his credentials, which are outstanding. We also share the same alma mater (Go Cats!) so I felt comfortable immediately with him. What I like most about him is he listens and is supportive. The brain MRI results enabled him to create a plan tailored to my needs. With all of the falls, I've developed PTSD and painfully intense hip problems, too. I'm receiving hip injections, physical therapy, and massage and psychological counseling. Some days I want to throw in the towel, but my care team and family have been so supportive that there is no way I could ever let them down. I'm still climbing the mountain to recovery and know it will be strenuous at times, but I'm in good hands. I highly recommend Dr. Ericson and his staff because they not only know their stuff, but they really care. Yes, they care.
