Mid point in our trip we stayed in a campground near I-75 and Seviers Highway, but in the morning, we were stuck. We headed to Rusty Wallace service department and they have been working with us. Very accommodating staff, they gave us rides to and from our hotel each day and also allowed us to store the camper while waiting. It's a big and expensive repair, which stinks, but the Rusty Wallace service team has been great. The truck is not yet fixed but we're home from our trip and will head back when it's finished.

After a rough experience at Reeder Chevrolet, my wife and I stopped by Rusty Wallace Chevrolet in Clinton--and we're glad we did. From the moment we walked in, the difference was clear. James, Jackson, and the new GM, Jimmy, were all incredible to work with. No pressure, no gimmicks- just honest people who actually care about helping you find the right vehicle. They let us take our time, test drive the truck, and didn't try to push us into buying it the same day. We found a truck we really liked, went home to think it over, and came back the next day to purchase it. The whole process felt comfortable and respectful, and that made all the difference for us. EDIT: after purchasing the truck it was fighting tooth and nail to get any quality service. The finance manager, James, LIED to my face they were extremely insistent that my disabled veteran plates could be transferred. After a week I get standard plates then have to go in person to the county clerk to pay yet another fee and spend time there, they stated that it is seldom possible (I am fairly new to Tennessee and having specialty plates). I WAS VERY INSISTENT that we saw two fobs for the truck. I was shooed away with one and then I kept bugging the sales rep. He tried shooing me off saying most used vehicles don't come with a spare key (which in my experience is not the case especially with new used vehicles) then he was able to find it and tried acting like he had done me a deed when I dropped tens of thousands of dollars on a truck and had to stay on this guy to get it. The dealer did not want to give me a military discount which just rubbed me the wrong way. Overall they get you in the door and then any issues or concerns after the fact they don't care whatsoever.

However, this week held the arrival of a factory recall, my first. With frequent trips to W Texas, one needs a dependable set of wheels under the seat - where exits can be 100 miles apart, and often no services at those scarce 'ranch' exits. So, off to Ray Varners. A quick verify that "Yes, lets look at it! Let's take care of that!" Sure, it's a gov-mandated recall. But, the friendly hospitality Puppo & I encountered wasn't gov-mandated. Sure, one expects sales people to be friendly. But, accounting and parts delivery employees? Never encountered THAT before. They made certain that Puppo and I were aware of coffee and snacks, and even produced 'pup-friendly' snackage items for his enjoyment. I've a sneaking suspicion that several lunches were a bit lighter by the time our recall was complete! Plus, the shop area WAS almost surgery level clean! My White Mule was returned 'government-ready' in less than 20 minutes! NO recall hassle, here! Should I ever be in the market for another vehicle, I will certainly be leaning towards Ray Varner as my vendor source.

Got an oil change. That was $90. Truck was running but not great. I could drive it. They set me up with a service advisor Mike. I made an appointment with Mike for the following week. I brought it in to Mike. Waited 45mins to an hour. Mike tells me it's the timing chain. He has to order parts and it'll be a week. After a week I start calling to check in. Mike says waiting on one last part for my timing chain. Call him again and then find out he retired and I'm put on to a new guy. Tell him the same thing Mike told me. I needed a new timing chain. (Even though they did replace mine 3 years ago). I spend a month calling where are the parts etc. FINALLY get it in. Turns out it's not the timing chain it's my turbo. I end up getting a turbo replaced and the other turbo that they had replaced 6 months ago. THEN I'm told I need a whole new engine. So I spend $3500 on a new turbo for a truck that doesn't even work. It's ran decent before I took it in and now it doesn't even work. And while all this is going on I'm renting a truck daily. After calling around to other Ford dealerships and techs. Turns out this is not normal. Before putting in the turbo they should have known it wasn't going to fix. It. Never mind I have been bringing my truck here and only here. Thought I was building a trustworthy relationship. Turn out they don't care about the customer at all. Truck also came back without my bug guard. So disappointed.

Excuse given: "They're selling someone's personal car at their dealership." Way to go folks, you killed a cash deal. (Conversation in picture) Then they raised the price to $10,600 on their ad. I really wanted to give Secret City CDJR a glowing review--but they made it difficult. So here's…read morethe Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of my experience. THE GOOD Secret City was the only dealership within a three-state radius willing to make a deal entirely online. Even though they were an hour and a half away, the process was smooth. In my opinion, Phil Edmunds (Internet Sales) is worth his weight in gold--Secret City CDJR is lucky to have him. After just three emails, the deal was done. Shoutout also to Channon Arden, Product Specialist--you know, the guy most people dread because they push all the aftermarket extras. When he brought up the extended warranty, I told him I could get it for less than half the price directly from Chrysler. I said if he could match it, I'd buy it from him. He checked, said he couldn't beat it, and that was that--no pressure. Same with the Maintenance Plan: I declined, explained why, and he respected it. No hard sell. THE BAD We told them we couldn't finalize the deal until the following week due to a money transfer, but we were willing to come in Friday (this was arranged on a Wednesday) to do paperwork and put down a deposit to hold the vehicle. Part of the deal--approved by both Phil and the Sales Manager--included swapping the 22" wheels for 20" wheels at no extra cost, with specific tires I had picked out. I was told it was fine to come in, but I'd be handed off to another salesperson since Internet Sales doesn't handle in-person transactions. When I arrived, the truck still had the 22" wheels. The new salesperson said he knew nothing about the swap and needed to check with the Sales Manager. I handed him a printout of my offer and the acceptance. After checking, he returned and said, "All is good." I came back the following Wednesday to pay the balance and pick up the truck. The wheels still hadn't been changed. I was told not to worry--they'd fix it quickly. Over an hour later, they brought the truck around, and I assumed everything was done. It wasn't until I got home that I noticed they had installed off-road tires instead of the ones I requested. THE UGLY I immediately contacted Phil and the salesperson who handled the paperwork. I never heard back from the latter, but Phil said the deal never included the specific tires I requested. I then reached out to the Sales Manager, who said the same--but offered to sell me the correct tires. I reminded him that I had the offer in writing, including the specific tires, and proof that both Phil and he had accepted it. Only after seeing the documentation did they agree to honor the deal. CONCLUSION In the end, they did the right thing. The correct tires were ordered and installed. When I dropped off the truck, it was filthy from a dump run--twigs and leaves everywhere. When I picked it up, the truck and bed were spotless. I always say: it's not about the mistakes a company makes, but how they handle them. And once all the facts came out, I was very happy with how Secret City CDJR resolved the issue.

The repair was to order her a bottle of paint to repair it ourselves. Two months later, the touch up paint arrived. However, the paint did not match leaving black dots all over the hood. The reality is that the hood never left the car. There was tape residue left behind and areas of the paint that were obviously not quite right. Here it is a year later and the pock marks are back just like before. The deal went sour because of lie upon lie. I called and spoke with their sales associate Spencer and this was confirmed via a recorded phone conversation that I still have as proof of their dishonest practices to get potential customers in their door for a sale. The advertisement was plainly misleading and appears to be a tactic to bring people through the door under false pretenses. This reflects a serious lack of honesty, integrity, and transparency. I would strongly caution others before doing business with this company. Photos of the mailer are attached for reference.
