I don't use the facilities often (indoor pool, pool table, workout room, etc), but it's great to have the option when I do.

Instead we chanced it and my 6 year old ended up with crazy hives on our last day, after 2 days of waterpark. Doctor confirmed it folliculitis from the waterpark and said she also treated another kid from the same one some time ago. The TVs were straight out of the 90's no ability to stream as even cheap hotels do now. You had to wait 30 minutes to go up or down on the elevator. The continental breakfast was an absolute joke with a line that was an hour long. Literally worst waterpark hotel I have ever been to. Stay away!

They were also very helpful with getting discounted tickets for the aquarium next door to them. The hotel itself is very kid friendly. Besides the Waterpark they have a kids play room with activities daily and an excellent arcade The rooms were very clean and tidy. They do serve a continental breakfast. Eggs, link sausages, potatoes, biscuits and gravy and cereal are available. The indoor Waterpark is excellent. They have several pools. The kids pool goes to a depth of 3 inches to 1ft 6 inches. The largest pool is 4 ft deep. It has several indoor water slides, 1 of which allows inner tubes to be used. Lifeguard staff are on watch at all times. The Waterpark provides towels for use and keep an ample supply. The main water playground can be used by kids and adults. The water is kept relatively warm and is well chlorinated. The bathrooms have shower facilities.

We were seasonal campers here for two years, and left after the 2024 season due to the horrific…read more(mis)management of the campground. The cost to camp here is astronomical, and it is like camping in a parking lot with fancy pools (no trees, no wildlife, no camping activities, etc.). The campground is run by a manager who has zero experience or customer service background; but an ego that could fill up the entire park. The cost to camp is about double what you would pay elsewhere for similar amenities. ($150+/night, or $5500+/season). But it doesn't end there; the cost of the food and bar at the restaurant (that is RARELY ever open) is sky high as well ($5 for a kids slushie, $16 for a burger, $20 for a pizza, etc.), and if you are a seasonal good luck with the 'extras' you have to pay for (golf cart fee, 'miscellaneous fee' (what a joke!), electrical fees of 4x what we pay at home and can't see you own meter, etc.). Wood is another funny thing here: you buy it for $40/load (can't bring any in), and what you don't use they pick back up on Sundays and resell back to the campers - and if you try to pick up other firewood that was left by weekenders he threatens to call the sheriff and charge you with theft. It is also severely understaffed - mostly due to the horrific management. In 2024 they had many staff walk off job or start crying mid-shift because of how they were treated; bartenders, cooks, and maintenance all report into the manager and he treats them all like dirt. This is also what led to the restaurant, and tiki bars never being open (they are not open Mon-Thurs, and very limited hours on the weekends). The most frustrating thing about all of this is that you can't go to "management" to discuss anything. It is owned by an out-of-state company called RJourney who is never onsite, doesn't care about how it is ran, and allows the unqualified manager to run the show without oversight. I tried several times to reach out to RJourney to get answers, and they never respond. I asked the manager for contact information at RJourney and he refuses to provide. On a positive note, the views of the Mississippi River are awesome - if you camp up on the top by the entrance (down below by the tracks you can't see the river and get awaken every night by the dozens of trains that come through). Until this place gets out from under RJourney and the horrible manager, I would avoid this place at all costs - plenty of other options to view the river and spend your camping dollars.

This place is a joke! My understanding is that they don't have any help so nothing was open. The…read more"manager" has been nothing but a warden! We don't usually break rules but this is ridiculous! Let's not mention the train track that literally has a train going by at least every hour 24 hours a day, blowing the horn! I feel like if you are going to run a "fun" resort and want people to come then you can't be a jerk! Oh yes, we also picked a spot by the playground and the playground is takes off that it's broke! The other playground is on the beach and closes so the kids can't play.

She was overly nice to the folks on the phone while ignoring my wife for over 10 minutes. When she got off the phone she acted as though my wife was inconveniencing her for even being there. She didn't acknowledge ignoring her or being on the phone and just simply said "yes?" in a rude tone as though we had inconvenienced her for being here. She begrudgingly gave our key cards and only gave one word answers or completely ignored anything that was said. Being met immediately with rudeness for simply having a reservation was an immediate turn off. "Becky" or Rebecca really needs to consider a different career. Next comes the state of the hotel. There is a nasty rogue sock in the elevator that should have been the first sign. Then we get to the hallway and there is literally black mold falling from the ceiling. Outside our room is a pile dead bugs. Once we get into our room we see that there is food and popcorn all on the floor. I inspected the bed before sitting on it out of fear of more bugs .. but immediately regretted sitting down after seeing my wife's face. She points at the headboard. ..Which has some substance (let's be honest we know what it is) on it. Like splatter and dripping. This place is disgusting and they have gall to charge over $200 for one night. I'm absolutely appalled and considering sleeping in my car. Will be disinfecting everything I own when I get out of here .. we just really wanted to go see the house for my birthday and traveled all the way out.. what an awful kick off

For me, this was a very quaint time capsule of when I would go vacationing with my family as a kid. Full disclosure, if you know you're the type of person to prefer a clean, brand new hotel, this will disappoint. You will not like this. You might be more critical and feel it is overall more dirty. If you like the "retro" look, you'll probably be thrilled and love it. Due to the age of the hotel, there's a lot of little things here that you no longer see in modern hotels. Recessed lighting, room divisions between bedrooms (instead of all the beds being in the same room together), a kitchenette with a mini fridge that has an actual freezer! According to my friends, the beds were not very comfortable, but I slept like a baby quite easily. Different strokes etc etc. We used the hotel pool and jacuzzi as well. Again, it's built in the 90s, it's not the newest shining thing, but I stayed cooking in that jacuzzi for several hours (with appropriate breaks, I swear), so I have no real complaints there. The staff was always very kind and attentive. No complaints there. There aren't any branded hotel chains in the area, so if you're not willing to risk it trying out a totally independent inn, the House on the Rock Resort is an excellent choice.
