The veggie platter for 3 people. It was really filling

This was my first time trying Ethiopian food. I loved it! There were normal tables and cute wooden, elaborate chairs/tables that seats 4. I loved that. They bring you wet, warm towels prior to bringing your food to wipe your hands (even though there is a bathroom). The food takes a while to arrive because it is made to order but it is totally worth it. We got a veggie taster type plate that had 6 different vegetable bases foods in one big plate. The food was delicious and flavorful and and it was a fun experience. I would definitely return.

Great: yummy food. Service is alright. The space is a little sad and dated and usually too warm. In summer, when they open the garage-door style front of the place, things are much better.

Th food was just ok. I'm used to Ethiopian food back in Atlanta. It's super flavorful. Here it was just ok. The service was decent. There was only one person handling the entire restaurant so you can imagine how hard it was to get the server to come check on us. Overall it was a good visit. I'd go back if I was in the area just to try their vegetarian options next time.

Ok, yes, service might be a little slow BUT the wait is sooooo worth it. I tend to grab takeout more than eating in just for convenience reasons but I loveeeee the vibe here. Smell of incense and tropical Ethiopian vibes just make me feel so gooddd in there. Cutest family that owns this place, strike up a conversation with them and you won't regret it. BEST food, I always get the meat platter and veggie platter with injera, it gives you a medley of everything and it's all amazing food to scoop up with your hands. The hot towels to clean yourself up are wonderful too.

    Veggie sampler and lamb tips--delicious!

Absolutely delicious! We had the meat combo and red lentils, both of which were fabulous. Highly recommend!

Super long wait. Food was good but I nearly passed out from hunger waiting. Got lamb with rice.

This family-owned and operated restaurant has been serving up Ethiopian delicacies for more than 40 years- ideal for vegans and meat lovers alike. The Blue Nile all you can eat platter is great for both groups and first dates, there's a coziness to this restaurant that is a rarity these days. Awesome for vegetarians, since the main platter of all-you-can-eat dishes is fully vegetarian. You can add meat dishes on an a la carte basis, but I have never felt the need. I always have to make sure not to eat any other bigger meals earlier in the day before coming here, because I want to be able to enjoy multiple rounds of food if possible! :) It's also so fun to step into the full experience of eating with your hands. Sometimes the service can be slow. But I have always found the staff to be very kind and courteous. So, if you're in the mindset of having a relaxed dinner experience, then you'll have a great time! The vibes are calm and there's usually relaxing music playing. Side note: they have gift certificates as well!

For two people, without reservations, we waited about 30 minutes on an early Saturday evening. Well with the wait. The interior was nicely designed and the staff were very attentive. Ordered the Kumuhana and tried the Ji Hibiscus beverage. The drink was good, but on the sweet side. The food was amazing. Chicken was super tender, rice was cooked well, corn salad added a nice touch of freshness, and the plantains were good too. A very filling meal, I'm surprised I was able to finish it all. Would definitely come back again, if in town.

I also asked the waitress which dish is the most popular and they told me the Samaki is their #1 seller. I tired half/half on the rice on my first visit, this visit I went with spiced rice pilau only. I'm not a fan of coconuts, while the coconut rice doesn't have a overpowering coconut flavor, spiced rice will be my to go moving forward. Nyumbani, while decent, the meat was bit under seasoned to my taste. Kuku was the better over Kuhuhana. Mbuzi - the goat shank was lukewarm when we got it, it was bit hard to break the meat off the bone, but worth trying at least once. Service was superb on both visits, water bottle gets refilled w/o asking, and great experience. While I won't be able to make it out often, definitely will be on my list of places to revisit while in Detroit area.

We shared the samosas ($4) and 2 combos (one had 2 vegan dishes for $10.99 and another had 1 vegan with spicy beef stew for $12.99. My favorite dish was the samosas--though they were small, loved the crispy exterior and spicy lentil filling. Both the combos came with injera--with a spongy pancake-like texture that served as a vehicle to deliver the food into our mouths (rather than utensils). The vegan dishes (choose the cabbage, red lentils, and chickpeas) and spicy beef stew were all good, but if I had to choose favorites, I would pick the chickpeas (reminded me of warmed up hummus) and the spicy beef stew. The decor was nice, on theme with the food, though the bathrooms were a bit outdated (had to stop in there to wash my hands since you traditionally use your hands to eat). Service was decent. Parking available as free street parking. Good option with decent pricing for those wanting to dine with vegan options or those craving Ethiopian food.
