    Lamb Deebee and Jollof Rice

This place is like a hole-in-the-wall spot with orange plastic booth benches. Locals and regulars getting comfortable give it a unique vibe compared to any place I've ever been. I got my food relatively fast--under 10 minutes. The lamb is gamey, so if you can't handle that, it's not the dish for you. Strong flavors of black pepper and a hint of garlic. There were three types of onions: yellow mustard onions, pickled caramelized onions, and grilled sweet onions. The jollof rice reminds me almost of Asian fried rice with a smoky note and possibly a tomato flavor. Definitely coming back here when in Detroit.

Dine in available. Lunchroom style booths with 3 (2) seater tables next to each other along 1 wall. Wallpaper covering the tables. We were shown a serving of the lunch special & my Mom changed from the lamb skewers to that, but I maintained my original order. Took a noticeable amount of time for the food to be cooked BUT it was brought out on platters that left more than enough to be taken home. Food is DELICIOUS

First time ordering from Maty's. Call in order. They needed 20 minutes to get my order made. Took me fifteen minutes to get there. I ordered the grilled snapper with jolof rice. Excited always to try new west African restaurants. Only to go in and they not have my order. But tried to sell me someone else's order of chicken. I kindly declined as I wanted my order. He explained my order would be another 20 minutes. I kindly walked out, but definitely with no food. The point is if you order make sure to confirm they will have your food if you're driving over 15 minutes.

Great food & quick service ! Good place to dine in! We got two dishes & enjoyed both.

Touched down in Detroit to visit my Uncle and Aunty and the first place we had to stop was Maty's! My go to is the Lamb Deebee and when I tell you I was craving this plate as soon as I got in the plane, that would be an understatement. Got some jollof rice and plantains to top it off. I can officially say I have arrived to D town!

This place will always have a place in my heart as a first African restaurant love. Everything is made to order and the drinks are house made. It is a small interior but I haven't seen a day with a full house. Typically, I get carry out regardless then grab some dessert around the corner (if you know, you know ) I've had everything in the menu except the fish which the only reason I haven't is because I usually try something new off a friend's plate because I'm getting lamb yassa everytime or nothing at all . The shanks just do something to me and they give you two which apparently is unheard of in most other African restaurants. Spice level is medium to low compared to average restaurants in this category. Unless you plan to dine in, call you order in advance and pick it up. I promise it will be hot to handle when it's in your hands...and delicious!

Half yassa chicken dinner ($13.00 USD plus tax), with fried plaintains, onion coleslaw and sauteed onions. Yassa chicken is a must order.

Amazing! The Red Snapper was well seasoned and the rice was the best. I am not a rice person!

Seriously one of the best chicken dishes I've ever had. This place was a little ways away from the…read moredowntown area, but easy enough to get to by bus. For two people, without reservations, we waited about 30 minutes on an early Saturday evening. Well with the wait. The interior was nicely designed and the staff were very attentive. Ordered the Kumuhana and tried the Ji Hibiscus beverage. The drink was good, but on the sweet side. The food was amazing. Chicken was super tender, rice was cooked well, corn salad added a nice touch of freshness, and the plantains were good too. A very filling meal, I'm surprised I was able to finish it all. Would definitely come back again, if in town.

I also asked the waitress which dish is the most popular and they told me the Samaki is their #1 seller. I tired half/half on the rice on my first visit, this visit I went with spiced rice pilau only. I'm not a fan of coconuts, while the coconut rice doesn't have a overpowering coconut flavor, spiced rice will be my to go moving forward. Nyumbani, while decent, the meat was bit under seasoned to my taste. Kuku was the better over Kuhuhana. Mbuzi - the goat shank was lukewarm when we got it, it was bit hard to break the meat off the bone, but worth trying at least once. Service was superb on both visits, water bottle gets refilled w/o asking, and great experience. While I won't be able to make it out often, definitely will be on my list of places to revisit while in Detroit area.

I've been to the food truck 3 or so times and have gotten fufu, egusi soup with goat, puff puff,…read moreand iced Zobo. The fufu was a good consistency wrapped in cling wrap so it doesn't stick to the packaging and can be eaten fully. The egusi is rich and flavorful; I definitely wish there was more of a spice to it but I have only ever had egusi from here so I don't know if culturally, it is meant to have more spice than that. Regardless, it's very tasty and I usually get a decent amount of goat in there. The puff puff is always delightfully soft and the perfect amount of sweetness to end my meal. The Zobo tea is very much not for me, the cinnamon along with ginger and hibiscus is something my tongue didn't like, but that's just a taste preference thing, I believe it was made well. As far as service, the lady who takes my order is always very kind and helpful. I appreciate her a lot. Her patience, especially when I first ordered, was greatly appreciated. This may be dramatic, but I found out later in life that I'm Nigerian and didn't get to enjoy my culture so she helped me pick the right things and it was a great encouragement to me. The chef is kind as well but we haven't had many interactions. As far as ambiance, I always get it next to the A2 farmers market which I love a lot because I get to walk around! Overall, I really love fork in Nigeria. My only cons are that it's a little expensive (one meal usually costs me $25-$30 for one person) and the wait can occasionally be a little longer but I don't mind it. Also, one time I got there right when they said they were going to open and they were an hour late. Other than that I've had amazing experiences here and can't wait to have more.
