Zobo Drink
Maryann S.

It is a food truck... (very cool) Wait time wasn't long. The Location is close to the Detroit airport. The goat meat tasted very good( but too much bones) The Jollof was ok. The zobo was ok as a drink but had a taste I couldn't place as a Nigerian. A plate of jollof rice and one zobo is $27. Overall it was ok. I was happy to see a Nigerian Meal.

Jollof Rice Meal with Goat and Egusi Soup

Listen this was the closest Nigeria has ever been to Michigan. I asked them to make my food especially spicy -- and they did not disappoint. I ordered the FuFu with Egusi soup as well as the Goat and Jollof rice. Everything was 10/10. The portion sizes are huge -- I ate off this food for 3 days. Of note, this it is a food truck. I initially thought it was a full restaurant. Highly recommend trying this place. The girls working inside the truck were nice and the service was on point.

Amazinggggggg and so much flavor! The portions are huge. Also got a side order of the plantains which were delicious as well.

One of my favorite food trucks in metro Detroit. I love their jollof rice and steak. It's a wonderful dish with a great balance of spices and depth of flavor

We had a pleasure to try this food truck downtown Royal Oak during Winterblast. I'm a fan of African food and Fork of Nigeria was no exception. They have a separate vegan menu which is amazing. We tried two different meals: Jollof rice meal and Stewed rice meal. They ate served with fried plantains and steamed vegetables. We also got Puff Puff for dessert which also are vegan. Both meals were very flavorful, a little spicy. I wish there was more sauce on the rice. Stemmed veggies were fresh and crunchy. Puff Puff were truly amazing. Like donuts but the dough is more dense. I'll definetly visit them again for more vegan food if I end up downtown Detroit.

Oxtail stew, jollof rice, steamed veggies, plantains

Why don't we have 1/2 stars again? For me, I'd say 3.5 stars but I can't quite round it up to 4, to be honest. But let's get to the food! I've had Fork In Nigeria marked for a while now, and I almost exclusively live by the mantra "if there's oxtail on the menu, you get the oxtail". So what did I get? Oxtails of course. Same mantra with jollof rice as well, and plantains for that matter. The good? The styrofoam to-go platter was filled to the brim with food rice, veggies, plantains, and oxtails, and it came it streaming hot. The bad? It was a whopping $20 which is a lot for a to-go plate, though I get most oxtail dishes are the most expensive on any menu. For me personally, it wasn't the tastiest oxtail I've ever had. Nigerian oxtail stew is more tomato-based and is very flavorful and spicy, but my taste preference leaned towards the Jamaican and Filipino versions. The oxtail pieces were more bony and sharp segments with limited meat portions, which felt uneven with the mounds of rice it came with. The jollof rice was similar in flavor, more tomato-based, which is different then say my favorite version at Yum Village. This is all preferential rather then saying it's good or bad. Just different, and not my favorite. Overall, I do like being able to try the Nigerian version of oxtail stew, and would love to try their other traditional dishes to get a better idea about their national palate. Also to keep supporting small businesses!

Jollof Rice with oxtails plantains and veggies

The jollof rice plus the veggies were really flavorful and tasty. The oxtails were not as good as I expected plus there was mainly only bone and not any meat in them for the amount of $ you pay. But I would definitely come here again to try the fufu and egusi soup next time

Egusi Soup and Pounded Yam (FuFu) 5/7/22 Fork In Nigeria - Detroit, Michigan Food Truck Love!
Palapala E.

First time eating Nigerian cuisine... Today, I decided to LIVE ON THE EDGE OF MY PLATE! I wanted something different. I googled "Nigerian food in Detroit" and a few options popped up. I scrolled down and the menu selections read well. After reviewing the menu, I headed towards Livernois (betw 7&8 mile roads). It was my pleasant surprise to find a FOOD TRUCK! I thought, this is going to be interesting. The staff was very pleasant and professional. There was a line of maybe 7 or 8 people, but we were serviced rather quickly. I ordered Egusi soup with FuFu (pounded yam) & fried plantain. It was served piping hot. I made it home & took my first dip of fufu into the egusi. To my surprise, my expectations were exceeded! The flavor of the Egusi soup was amazing and slightly spicy (not too much). The FuFu requires you to have an open mind and the will to dip into the soup & eat it with your fingers. However after a couple of tries, things connected well for me. There is a bland (not-sweet) overcooked stiff sweet potato consistency with the fu fu. It reminds me of a warm soft Japanese plain/non-flavored mochi-like mouth feel. Once i dipped the FuFu through the Egusi soup, it coated well and the flavors married then it all made sense to me. For a little variety, I dipped the plantain into the Egusi and it was good as well. I would definitely try the Egusi again (maybe over forbidden rice) for added texture. This dish was very satisfying for me. The Zoba drink... one was enough (satisfying) but if i knew then what i know now, I would have saved some or purchased another to add a little rum to it! The price of my food and beverage was pretty decent. Roughly $23...well worth it!! For anyone frowning on food from a food truck, do yourself a favor. Live a little, TRY THEM! Many of them will blow your mind without blowing your wallet!

MacKenzie G.

Stewed beans and plantains were EVERYTHING!! Flavor, texture, just wow. It was a little oily, but besides that, 10/10. The puff puff was a little too chewy for my liking, but it had good flavor.

Food is normally very on point but can be inconsistent at times. I have enjoyed African food for years and this is as close to what I enjoyed when I visited Africa; however... check your order before you leave ‍ I ordered tomato stew with goat, got home to Egusi stew which really doesn't hit the same spot. Will continue to go back though.

Ordered two chicken corn tacos ($20 ticket voucher), walking Doritos chicken nachos ($20 ticket voucher, mangonada ($15) and a pina colada in a pineapple with fresh fruit ($30). Ordered 3 more chicken corn tacos with cash ($10). All told they charged us $59.61 cash and $40 of ticket vouchers, that's $99.61. Seems rather steep for what we got and really inflated too. The tacos were okay, nothing special. Chicken was little small granules and almost seemed like it was maybe ground chicken or the strangest chicken granules we have ever seen. Not what we expected at all. The pineapple pina colada was so-so, not worth $30. The mangomada didn't taste so great, was disappointing for $15. The walking taco would have benefits better less the water logged corn that sogged things up quickly in the nacho Doritos bag. All in I would not say it was worth nearly $100 worth of food and drinks here.

It tasted like a mango puree smoothie with whipped cream. It was around $10. It was a very large portion. I love the festive look and mango on top. I would like to try the strawberry next. I did not get any food. The tamales looked good and the churros too. I am not sure if they are a regular here at the market but I would love to see them again at this location.

Everyone happily noshing on huge portions at a reasonable price. The brisket is the best of the bunch. Smoky, tender and even juicy. I could eat this brisket all damn day. No need for sauce but the sauce was nice. The ribs were meaty St. Louis cut. Big and lean. Nice clean bite, no tug. The meat really got a good kiss of smoke, so again no need for sauce but sauce still available and tasty. The pulled pork was good. Bark in the mix, which is always a treat. Not mushy a bit but not stringy either. This one is better with sauce imo so you may want to ask for extra. The mac and cheese is the only clunker here. I am not a huge Mac and cheese person but when I like it, I love it. This was meh. Bland. It comes with a plate but I wish there were other options. Any other option. I saved the cornbread for last. The best damn cornbread I've ever had. Period. OMG. This was the happiest surprise. Moist, a bit sweet and just melt in your mouth pure damn delightful. I will seek this truck out. I always say that my teachers are heroes without capes so the theme of this truck was so fitting. Every year, I try to do something extra special for my staff. This year, I booked the Hero Or Villain Food Truck. I was able to select 6 different sandwiches for my staff to choose from and options such as loaded fries & soft drinks. These sandwiches were the BOMB! Freshly made and grilled with such unique options: Blackfire (Steak, bacon, egg, mozz, grilled peppers, onion & drizzled with a spicy sriracha mayo), Thor (Turkey, bacon & Cheddar, mayo), Kingpen (Grilled Chicken, mozzarella & pesto aioli), Captain Planet (Marinated Mushrooms, Grilled Onions, Mozz, Red Pepper & pesto aioli), Deathstroke (Steak, grilled peppers, provolone, onion & mayo), Hawkeye (Turkey, swiss, sauerkraut, pickles, 1000 island dressing). These sandwiches were served on grilled sourdough, marble rye or a hoagie bun. My favorite was Thor but the Hawkeye was equally as delicious. I didn't have a chance to try all of them but everyone was raving about their sandwiches. The two ladies working the food truck were amazing. Serving up 50+ sandwiches in 1 1/2 hours was seamless. I've been told that this food truck travels all over the place. If you are lucky enough to try them, trust me, you will be in sandwich heaven! I'm not sure whether this…read morehopping red food truck brands itself Chick-a-Dee or Chick-a-D (in our classic English Gothic 'D' font) so you'll have to bear with what they put on their website. Food trucks are all the rage. It seems almost every food movement now has representation on wheels, a plus for those of us in specialty cuisine drought areas or savouring more than a hamburger or hot dog at entertainment venues and festivals. Now the competition in the Metro area is fairly fierce across all categories, so setting oneself apart takes no special magic other than damn good food at a reasonable price. Chick-a-dee, with its eponymous poultry mascot suggests, specialises in chicken. Their simple menu stretches through the standards you might expect: chicken tenders and fries, fried chicken, chicken dogs. There may be a wider menu I somehow missed but you'll have to forgive me, I was too busy scarfing down an exquisitely breaded, juicy, oil-free tender spiked with delicately savory finishes to really notice. That grumbling you heard? Me that I neglected to buy four pieces, instead of two, shared with my beau. It may also be my stomach insisting another piece would be ideal. For all it's an American staple, breaded and fried chicken is notoriously difficult to do well. Too little care, it ends up an oil-engorged mess with the breading sloughing off or unpleasantly dry and chewy. Too often the latter happens, especially when made by an inexperienced or rushed cook. Not so the case with Chick-a-dee. I don't know what I was expecting, but what I got was an incredibly moist, tasty tender as long as my fist is wide, and generously breaded. If I have a single complaint -- other than not being fed more of this goodness as part of a 9 piece tender basket -- it might be I'd like a more savory breading option. Am I hyper focused on that breading? Yes, yes I am, because it came out golden and fluffy, flashed to the right balance of crisp and soft. It sealed in the proper amount of juiciness to the chicken. Prices are fair, the French fries are a little bit lacking compared to their amazing chicken, and they whipped up my order in no time flat. You've made a convert out of me, sweet birds, and I'll be singing your praises to my fellow Detroiters.
