So I don't know many places where we can get custom Vietnamese dresses (ao dai) in Houston so HK4…read moreof course is the first stop. My sister had her prom dress made here in a modern form when she was in high school (which was in 2003). So when it came time for her to get married, we came back to Kim Fabrics. Prices are reasonable and at least they can do custom fitting vs ordering the ao dai online and have it made in vietnam then wait for it to arrive. I mean, if you have the patience to do that then go for it. We did ours about 3 weeks prior to the tea ceremony which is the minimal time they need to get it done. We had her wedding ao dai made in a red fabric and the hat. I also had mine and my mom's ao dai made here as well. The wedding ao dai came to a total of about $350 which included the fabric, fitting, hat, and pants. Both my mom and I had our ao dai made just around $200-230 each since our fabrics was on sale. It's a standard $150 for making the ao dai on top of the cost of the fabric. You can also just purchase the fabric and have it made somewhere else but since I know of no other.. it was done here. The guy who works there can definitely give you feedback about what goes together and what matches. I even had trouble getting the matching pants with my fabric but he definitely helped me. He also helped select a fabric for my mom that would make her look young and not too old. He will be honest if the fabric would make her look older or if the color/style didn't match her age. Once we got the fabric selected and purchased, we went to the back where the seamstress would measure us. About 1.5-2 weeks later she called us back in to do a the first fitting. Make sure to bring the shoes and bra you will be wearing so they can have an accurate measurement. The ao dai was almost perfect. After the final fitting, I picked up all 3 dresses but they had forgotten the hat for my sister. They had to overnight ship it from California to get it here in time for her wedding. My pants were not completely altered in the back but it was fine. I didn't notice they had forgotten to fix the back till the day of the wedding when I saw pins still there. Those were the only flaws but not a big deal for me. If they had not shipped the hat..then it would have been a BIG problem. All in all, its a good place to get a custom ao dai. I will be coming back here when it is my turn for my wedding. Tip: Look in the sales rack for cheaper fabric which are the exact same ones in the rolls. They are just cut already but trust me... it really is the same!!

Me and some friends stopped by Craft Land the other night after dinner, and it ended up being a…read morereally fun time. It was my first visit, and exploring Houston's Chinatown at night just adds to the vibe. Bright lights, great energy, and cool little places like this tucked into plazas. We came mainly for the claw machines, and they definitely delivered. These aren't your usual scammy machines where you walk away empty-handed and annoyed. The win rates here are actually decent. We saw a bunch of people pulling out prizes, and we managed to win a few cute plushies ourselves. There's a wide variety of machines too, with everything from small trinkets to giant stuffed animals. This place could be a fun date spot if you're both a little playful or competitive, but honestly it's perfect for kids. The atmosphere is light and casual, and there's plenty to keep them entertained. One thing I didn't totally get was the "tufting" part of the name. After looking online it looks like you can do rug making workshops but I'm not sure where they'd host this as the place was full of claw machines. That being said we didn't check that part out, but maybe next time. Overall, Craft Land is a cool little late-night adventure, especially if you're in the area and want to mix a bit of nostalgia and prize-hunting into your night.
