When the accident first occurred the tech was very apologetic, and called the office immediately. After he hung up the phone he told me that Mill creek would cover the damages. I agreed that this was the obvious solution. I was very understanding (accidents happen) and because they seemed to be stepping up, I wasn't too upset. I just went about the rest of my day hauling water buckets to the 11 horses in the barn.  When the tech left that day I felt like Mill Creek and I were still on good terms.  The plumber showed up within hours of the accident. They were unable to fix it that day, but they had it fully functional by noon the next day.  I was told by the tech to send the invoice directly to Mill Creek. After I did that, I received an email from Rich Fanning...  Mr. Fanning starts off by scolding me for not 'shopping around' for a better deal on the repair, and he continued telling me how this was all my fault: *I didn't tell them there was a waterline there *I should have told the tech there was a waterline in that general area *They don't use 811 to locate utilities so I should have marked it *They had no way of knowing there was a line there Well, for starters~ 2 holes were dug within feet of 2 outside water hydrants. Very clear and very obvious. I wasn't required to be home at the time so I didn't know I was supposed to be babysitting the tech. In the preliminary interview about my project, I provided Mr. Fanning with all the information he asked for~including that this property is on well water, there is water access in the barn, and there's a functioning bathroom in the barn as well.  Mr. Fanning was not interested in hearing my words or having a conversation with me, at all! He just told me how things were going to go down, then he stopped talking!! I continued to receive invoices from the plumber, so I continued sending them to Mill Creek for 4 or 5 days. I still held onto hope that once the President understood the circumstances that he would step up like a professional and take responsibility. Nope! When the plumber increased the pressure on me about the outstanding invoice, I increased the pressure on Rich.  When Rich finally replied almost a week later, it was clear that he had no intention of keeping his original word about paying for repairs. In this reply he (again) starts off by berating me: telling me this was all my fault I should have waited to get a better plumbing quote (while 11 horses were in a barn without water) I should find this compensation a 'very fair resolution'.  The 'very fair' compensation was that Mill Creek would waive their $525 fee for soil testing and send me a check for $325.11; meanwhile, I paid $1700.21 to fix their damages. Mr Fanning was very precise about making sure they didn't pay/credit a nickel more than half the repair cost~ but he was nice enough to 'pay' $.01 more than half.  I agreed to pay Mill Creek $525 for their services. Instead I ended up paying $1375 out of pocket because they stepped foot on my property. Please don't use Mill Creek Environmental for your soil testing. I'm sure there are genuinely good people that work there, but the president is not one of them!
