This is one of WorkForce1's many half-centers in New York City. These half-centers aren't as big as the "hubs" and they aren't specific to job categories like some of the specific sites that are focused on medical or construction jobs.
WorkForce1 did a great job making this place, because it's clean, and the computers work well. The staff is well-informed, considerate, and are competent.
Now for the constructive criticism. This location is in the middle of the industrial section of the East New York Brooklyn neighborhood. I realize this is obvious, however, I don't think any regional manager has thought this through. There are hundreds of warehouses in this part of Brownsville, Flatbush, and East New York. There should be a full-time worker here who liaisons with the warehouses in East New York. Out of all of the warehouses, at least half are going to be cash-only and off of the books, but there must be dozens that are looking for labor. People are probably going to go through Craigslist First.
Wish there were a way to connect this place to recruiters all over Brooklyn and Manhattan. Wish there were an LCD screen of the weekly job events they have across the WorkForce1 centers in the 5 boroughs.
I wish there were a temp list for day-to-day work that I could sign up for while I'm waiting to hear back from jobs. There seems to be no division between terrible minimum wage jobs and better paid jobs.
There's no relationship with the Brooklyn Navy Yard, either. The Brooklyn Navy Yard is creating 40,000 jobs in the next five years. There's a new medical office across the street that should be hiring like crazy.
Finally, there is a Mormon LDS Church that is likewise on Pennsylvania Ave. This is reaching quite a bit, but LDS has had huge success with social services in Utah. Consider sending one of the regional managers of WorkForce1 to the LDS Church to start an outreach program. read more
