Luckily, my lateral move at my day job is now in Tustin so when I found out WORK was going to be less than 2 miles away, I thought perfect, I could go right after work. Which meant I had to buy one of their opening week promos because who doesn't like a deal but really it was because I like the owners and I wanted to support. I've meet the Miklaus' at Full Psycle and love their energy so had to see them shine in their arena...of torture. ;)
I had been delaying in taking my first class since I had saw some of my friends were sore the next day (in a good way) and needed to figure out a balance between this and my Full Psycle classes. Finally, committed and brought my workout attire with me to work today, so that is was WORK after work and that was this Friday night. Took the 5:30pm Impact class with Kara, which some of you may know her from FP or her former days at Barry's Bootcamp. I never had an opportunity to take her at Barry's but my friends loved her there. And if you see this tiny gal, this gal is ripped, I had arrived early and she was demoing moves for the class before and I'm like holy cow, I'm going to die.
Of course, I had to choose a day where it was 90+ degrees, so it was a bit hot in there, I heard they are thinking about installing AC in the future but luckily, they had their door open and plus I spin with an evil instructor *cough cough Paul Harmeling* that purposely turns OFF the AC at times so the temperature at WORK wasn't that bad.
I parallel parked on the Hale Ave. since there were spaces available, since they don't currently own the parking spaces, where they are located at, you'll have to park at 16662 Hale Ave. instead (this is explained on their website). Some may say, this inconvenient, but hey, you're here to workout anyways, if a 2-minute walk is too much for you, you might be at the wrong place (that's right I'm talking to you folks that fight for parking spots so you don't have to walk far to the gym and use the elevator, when you are in no way disabled.)
By accident, I went to the other fitness studio, go to the door on the right hand side, that's WORK door. They recommend signing up online to reserve your spot because you risk the chance of not getting in, if the class is full. BTW your first class is free. You sign off your name or add your name if there's room and sign a waiver for first timers. They sell WORK apparel and water but just bring your reusable bottle and fill up there. They have complimentary towels for your usage They also have a childcare room if you have little ones. And sometimes, you'll see their mascot Chance (their cute doggie that loves to snuggle) roaming around.
They have a nice lounge area, which has cubbies for your personal items but if you don't feel comfortable leaving your stuff out, they do have lockers in the restrooms but you'll need to bring your own locks. The restrooms are nice, there's two showers with amenities so you can get ready before work or get ready to party afterwards.
For Impact, the class was split into two groups, by chance I was placed with folks I knew from FP, which included on one of the founders KP and WORK co-founder Dane. Our group for about 45 secs were on glides doing push-ups or pikes. And then we switched off with the other group on the treadmill, each time we switched the incline was increased, 3-6-9-12. I tried to turn down my speed and of course lucky me, I was next to Dane so he turned it back on, which I find out I could easily handle (sorry was traumatized from Barry's). Next our group did squat presses, for now I'll do 7.5lbs weight and kick it up when I get a hang of it and the other group did mountain climbers with the bungee cord and we switched off. Afterwards our group worked on throwing medicine balls on the ball while the other group did lunges with weights and we switched off. The hardcore did burpees with their medicine balls, I'm not quite there yet. And lastly our group did squats with weights, while the other either did box jumps or side steps. Since we were the last class of the day, we got some overtime.
Completely doable workout and I was a sweaty mess. It always a good sign they have a good thing when you see other folks part of the fitness community there. And don't worry you can be of any age and size. Let's see how the good hurt feels tomorrow. Will be back for more because I expect the crazy attire from Dane I saw when he was at Full Psycle.
And it's not too far from the Diamond Jamboree so I can reload on all the calories I just burned off. This could be dangerous or should I say DANEgerous? ;) read more
