I've been shopping at DSW for years, and overall it's still a solid place to find quality shoes…read morewith a wide selection. On my latest visit, I found exactly what I needed without too much hassle, which is always a win. That said, it feels like the discounts and deals that DSW was once known for have scaled back a bit. It used to be easier to find deeper markdowns or snag something under $50, but now you have to dig a little harder--and even then, the deals aren't quite what they used to be. The clearance section felt more picked over than usual, and the pricing structure can be a little confusing at times. Still, the store was clean, organized, and the staff was helpful. If you know what you're looking for and keep an eye out for rewards or promotions, you can still score a good deal--it just takes a bit more effort than it used to.

To preface, this review is not towards the Plainville store, as they have great customer service…read moreand friendly staff! However, I tried using a sale discount online about a month ago, but it excluded ASICS. I find it odd a shoe store would exclude a brand, but that's ok. ASICS are the most comfortable to me considering I have a heel spur, and one foot that had surgery. Just to offer my opinion to consider including ASICS, I sent a message to their customer service via email. The following day, I received a nice response from Yelena, acknowledging my inquiry and to please send them the pair I was interested in, along with my size and they would be happy to honor the sale. A few days later I replied along with a screenshot and the size. I reached out twice over the next couple of weeks and never received a response. I then sent a regular letter via mail requesting feedback. Zero response. I wasn't looking for exceptions to begin with, but why offer if you aren't going to back it up? I'm not sure how you simply ignore a customer, but that appears to have taken place here.

I was told people get served in the order they arrive, but that would be a slow time so it should be fine. I arrived at that time, a Tuesday around 1.30 during a non-school vacation day. Signing in on the sheet by the door, all names above were crossed off giving the impression we would be next. 4 people were in mixed stages of trying on shoes with only 1 employee on the sales floor. He avoided looking at me. Within a few minutes, 1 patron bought her shoes. Great, I thought. Closer to getting fitted for needed insoles and new sneakers! A man walked in, went over to the employee asking for a particular person. 'That's me' said the employee. 'Have a seat and I'll be with you shortly'. The employee NEVER acknowledged me. Waiting was a waste of time given I was going to be passed over. I left. Not enough employees to take care of all the patrons. And a sloppy system of who gets taken care of, when. This happened Tuesday 3/24/26.

I was considering seeing a doctor and gearing up for the possibility of surgery. Before I jumped to medical intervention, I decided to go to Fleet Feet to see if anyone could help me. I figured if anyone had experienced with foot pain, it would be runners. An employee, Dave, had me hop on two pieces of tech that measured my feet, gait, and walking pattern. He was able to identify my size, arch height, foot width, and level of stability. Apparently, I was wearing the wrong type of sneakers and lacked arch support. He fitted me with insoles and a few weeks later, wide toed sneakers. Since then I have had ZERO pain! I realized I had been wearing the wrong type of sneakers my WHOLE LIFE. I am genuinely amazed at how much easier running, walking, even standing is now. I owe Dave my life. Thank you guys so much!

I found an OK shoe and just suffer through it. Recently my wife and I started hiking a LOT. Its now our hobby and I was struggling so I thought about trying to find a good hiking boot to go check out all those great CT trails. We were told about Fred at a festival earlier this year and decided to give him a try. He was professional, knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with this problem through. He was patient and understanding. We tried a few, he let me do extensive walking tests to find the right fit. We found one I liked and he helped pick out a high quality insert designed to help folks with problems like mine. Fred took the time to explain the technology behind the shoes and inserts and explained how they worked and gave us a few tips. Now I waited a few weeks to write this review as I wanted to see how I would enjoy the shoes after the purchase as this has bit me in the butt so many times previously. I have to say they are by far the most comfortable thing my horrendous feet have ever had the pleasure of walking in. I am now going 5+ miles a day without issues and only growing stronger. Thank you Fred, you were wonderful and did a great job helping me! We have used them like 10x already and no regrets. Worth every penny. Quality isnt always cheap, you wont find the cheap knockoffs in this store. Only high quality but very much worth it.

It is also pretty important to me to be able to try on the boots before purchasing, which in some cases is nearly impossible (Red Wing apparently won't even stock a mens size 7, which is what my equivalent would be). However, after one call to this place, and I immediately felt like I was in good hands. Not only do they carry a wide variety of styles and uncommon sizes - they let you try them on, and even walk up and down the street to get a real feel for them! Highly recommended if you need a good pair of boots, especially if you're a railroader!
