Busy but well stocked Bean store, right near downtown Hartford! With just about everything you would need for a trip up to the Cape to the White Mountains, LL Bean has much to offer. There's a lot of home goods, fun clothing, Bean Boots (of course!) and camping gear. They have a great return policy and the staff here was friendly and helpful. It was packed for the holiday season, but that's because everyone knows about their great products and quality. It's a cool store to browse. Lot's of creative outdoor equipment and accessories are available but it is insanely expensive. I don't understand how they're so many people walking out with huge shopping bags. I feel like so much of the items are overpriced, but.. I'll give credit where credit is due and say that some items I saw (clothes) looked like it was a good quality and made to last. My mom did buy a clearance item, plus they had a storewide 15% off deal going on so she got a really good deal. I feel like this is probably the only time it's worth shopping here. They gave her a $10 off coupon and I went right back and used it to buy myself a beanie $30 for a beanie, but it was so cute and warm, that's how they get you! it ended up being almost 50% off because of the additional 15% off. I'll tell ya, I'd come back, and like I said; only buy clearance. I just can't see myself paying retail here. We love LLBean stuffs. There is no LLBean in West Coast, which is sucks. Whenever we go to CT, we ended up buying lots of goodies here. I love their tote bags. If we have more times in CT, we drive to Freeport, Maine. There's bigger LLBean which opens 24hours. There's Cabela's in Hartford also, which is more interesting shop to look around. These two stores, you can't compare to REI or other outdoor shops in SoCal. These are serious outdoor stores existing for a long time, though not in West Coast. Quality is usually good, ( long lasting) but $$$, I do wish, they would order more small sizes ( men & women), staff, ( can be busy:weekends) but accommodating. One of the few locations in CT you know you're going to have to spend money when you come to Evergreen Walk and L. L. Bean. Usually I'm here to just walk around and warm up on these cold days with my dog as this is one of the places that they allow leashed dogs into the store but I'm always fearful that with all the wood there, my dog will do his business nearby. Fingers crossed so far. The workers are use to the pets coming in even if I'm still in the process of being comfortable with it. The store is large having different sections for women, men, children, and shoes along with other sections. Which brings me to my most recent time I was here. I came here with sister to exchange and return her shoes utilizing the lifetime warranty. What should have been a quick exchange turned into a pretty long time in the store as we were sent from the register to the shoe department to be helped there. As we sat and chatted while waiting for a sales associate help us we noticed that there were very few people in the store on Saturday morning around 10am when they opened yet those that were shopping had two associates helping them while we were waiting. Gave my sister time to look for the shoe she wanted and with her already knowing the size she wears it should have been quick. For her not so much but for me and my dog we were happily entertained. I can only imagine how this place is when it's busy, I personally am looking into a more professional laptop bag but I'll get it online instead. read more

I tried to purchase women's wading shoes....I was told " we don't carry them but we can order them" I personally want to try them on before purchasing. I tried to buy women's waders. ... She then basically reprimanded me in a school marm voice and said this was because of all the on line shopping. She told me I should try the men's section. I was so angry with that ignorant comment. Frustrated, I walked out the door and drove to Orvis, had to pay a bit more money but was able to try on both waders and boots, women's fishing pants and shirt and make a purchase of which I was very happy with. read more

Standard consumer outdoor gear, nothing too over the top crazy at this store, its not the maine flagship store or cabela's .. i have bought many coats here over the years (what's it been, 4 or 5 years since it opened?) and they are all still standing strong .. LL Bean sells super quality stuff and stands behind what it sells. canoes, kayaks, camping, biking, shoes, sweaters, coats .. all that and more. it seems the focus is more on the clothes lately, and they seem to have added a big fishtank in the store (to be more like cabelas maybe?) read more

How many of us New Englanders of a certain age *cough* *cough* remember lugging one of their Lifetime Warranty back packs to and from school. But as many of us know L.L. Bean is so much more than back packs. However, unless you reside in Maine - you probably bought most of their products through their catalogue. Luckily the L.L. Bean has solved this problem for central Connecticut Nutmeggers by opening up a pretty sweet store in South Windsor next to the Shops at Evergreen Walk. A stand alone store - this location provides everything that an outdoorsman (or woman) might need. Camping supplies - Check Stylish clothing - Check Hiking boots - Check Coats to keep you warm during those cold New England nights - check All of the items that L.L. Bean sells in their store are high quality and they even carry some other reputable name brand apparel and equipment. And all easily located throughout their store or by asking one of their very knowledgeable employees. I have no problem buying items on line, but sometimes it's just nice to try it on in the store without having to wait for it to arrive on your doorstep. And even if you purchase something and decide it's not for you - L.L. Bean's return policy is very hassle free. It's a win win all around. read more

Huge LLBean fan however the majority of the employees made our experience so unenjoyable we left empty handed. While shopping around this location before Christmas, I brought my 6 month old 25 pound mini golden doodle. While she is quite energetic, we have been training her (as any dog owner does). A fellow customer came to pet her and she barked a bit from excitement. An associate came to us and said that while they are dog friendly if the dog continues to bark we will be asked to leave because "not all customers enjoy it". We diligently continued to train her and the same associate followed me around the store waiting for my pup to let out a bark to ask us to leave. While in line, I witnessed a couple of people trying to return the lady's moccasins and getting a little heated as they were told of the new policy, but they (employees) handled themselves graciously! Merchandise is overpriced, which was somewhat forgivable when the return policy was satisfaction guaranteed. I tried to return 3 shirts today and even with online receipts they denied the returns. These were from before the guarantee change, but no matter -- they were deemed "normal wear" even though all three had ripped elbows. Last purchases here. I'll pay 1/4 to 1/3 the price somewhere else and not rely on LL Bean's return policy that doesn't allow returns. read more

I have read a lot of good views about LLBean but personally, I don't like this place. My son has been having this backpack for 4 years and the strap was starting to tear off. I bought a new one for him and asked if they can repair the old one. I totally understand not every store handles repairment and it doesn't make sense moneywise to ship any product back and force for that purpose. However, the attitude of the crew was like, "Oh, you can take it to a shoe repair" or "If you think you're not satisfied 100%, you get a replacement" Com on, I don't want to claim it was not satisfactory. She could have explained the policy more kindly and nicely. That's why I buy only a couple backpacks and lunchbags. I rarely think of getting any other items nor would I recommend this place. read more

I used to live within an hour's drive time of the L. L. Bean flagship store in Freeport, Maine. This outlet is not, of course, as comprehensive or overwhelming as that, but it's great for getting a closer look at some of Bean's clothing, shoes, and outdoor equipment - or, as in my case, for correcting my wrong guess about size. I've ordered shoes from L. L. Bean's catalog before, and have typically had no trouble sizing them correctly. But when I received a pair of shoes recently, I learned that this particular supplier/manufacturer did things a little differently, and they just plain didn't fit. Bean's return policy is very broad, and it turned out that an exchange in a store is perfectly acceptable - and this time, I'd make sure I got the size right. The shoe clerk was quick and helpful, and so was the checkout clerk. She noticed that I'd ordered them originally with a discount, and made sure to apply it on the exchange. Result: a straight exchange, with no additional cost. I've successfully (if unintentionally) tested the salespeople before, hunting through their stockrooms for my size, style, and color preferences. They've always been gracious. That goes a long way with me. read more

I've always loved llbean but I'm four weeks into a roof rack debacle, for which I paid $600.00, that has been anything but pleasant. First I was told they had them in stock at the SW store- went in and parts weren't in stock. That weekend was our trip to Maine so I called up the Freeport store, spent an our on the phone explaining what I needed to the guy who answered. At that point I realized I knew more about the Thule roof racks than he did. I told him I need the three components and to check to see if they were in stock. He assured me up-and-down that they would be in stock. So I traveled an extra hours to visit the Freeport store and when I got there was told the components weren't in stock! I was extremely infuriated. There was one guy who was very helpful and helped me rig some other sort of system on top of my car so we could at least get home with the extra person that we were bringing. (Had to buy 2, 100$ duffle bags) Finally, two weeks later all three components arrived at my house. I was so excited that I called the South Windsor store to have them installed where I was told that they do not install roof racks on the weekend. Whaaat!? When I was purchasing this it would've been nice if somebody told me that seeing as how I work during their weekday business hours! I'm so fed up with L.L. Bean at this point I can't imagine spending another penny that I earn in that store! I will now be a faithful West Hartford REI customer. read more

I'm not really an "outdoors" type of gal, but my younger sister wanted a pair of their signature moccasins, so needless to say I did some Christmas shopping here. I was in awe at the sheer variety of their merchandise. I expected to see tents, sleeping bags, and campfire cookware everywhere, but they have great clothing as well. After I got my sister her moccasins, we perused the clothing and I ended up getting a lovely flannel shirt and comfy daywear pants. The associate who helped me out was lovely as well; she had to go to the stockroom a couple times in order to check if the clothing I liked was in my size. I know how annoying that can be, and I apologized, but she just smiled and said it was her pleasure. That meant a lot. The associate who rang me out was great, too. She assured me that all their merchandise is guaranteed. In fact, my sister will be able to exchanger her moccasins every year for a BRAND NEW PAIR. Now THAT is what I call standing by your product! I'm going to need to go back there to purchase more awesome shirts and get myself a pair of those awesome moccasins. Being from California I had only heard about how awesome LL Bean is. After visiting their store I was impressed but not any more than the average REI store I have been to. I went in looking for a serious jacket I had seen online but they did not have it in the store (which is not unusual). What was bizarre to me is they didn't have comparable jackets for serious cold. Perhaps I'll go back in a couple of weeks when they get all their winter stuff in. Other than that it is a great store for outdoor supplies. Mind you, their stuff isn't cheap. read more

LL Bean does not seem able to get its act together in choosing a credit card sponsor/partner. For years they had a good credit card partner. Then they shifted to Barclays Bank for some reason and there were about 6 months of chaos as payments and credits went astray and general integration was very poor. Now they have shifted again to Citi Bank MasterCard and we have had nothing but trouble. They even admit that there were problems over the holidays. Now we are caught again in a poor integration between the credit card and the company that it should be making it easy to order and pay. Maybe LL Bean as a private corporation should go back to the dark ages of servicing a private company credit account; it has stretched our patience having to go through their constant account changes and integration woes. read more

Disappointing customer service. I've always shopped at LL Bean for their (previously) excellent guarantee on their products. I tried to exchange a set of defective trekking poles purchased for my son less than a year ago. The poles were LL Bean's own brand and I was only looking for a comparable replacement. I was told I could only receive a store credit as the model was discontinued. However, the poles were purchased on sale so to replace the existing poles, I was told I would have to pay the difference. When I pointed out there was a comparable set of poles for the same retail price and I was only looking for a replacement, I was told "too bad, that's not our policy". I've since purchased a new pair of trekking poles at REI and am extremely happy with their quality. I will not be shopping at LL Bean again (except to use my store credit). read more

LLBean is not the company it used to be and after a recent ordeal I will no longer spend my money there. Here's the gist of what happened: I purchased slippers in January, the return policy changed in February, and said slippers ripped that October. I brought them back to the store with my receipt and was told they were worn and that they don't take back worn items. I explained that the seam ripped and they had only been worn for about 4 of the 10 months, plus they were purchased before the policy change and should be grandfathered in. They didn't even care to entertain the idea that I purchased them before the change and I was then told by the manager that it was "normal wear and tear" and they can't take them back for that reason. So basically LL Bean believes it's normal for $80 slippers to wear out in 10 months. My last pair lasted 6 years and I used to wear them as if they were shoes. I've bought $20 slippers at Target that lasted longer than these. Everyone in the store was so rude and acting like I was trying to cheat the system. I then called customer service who said the store should've honored their old policy and suggested I send them to their main returns center. They were also no help as they basically gave me the same story. The woman at the returns center told me that "nothing last forever" even though I believe $80 slippers should last AT LEAST the year they're guaranteed (even though mine were still under the lifetime satisfaction guarantee.) While I know that this second part doesn't have to do with the South Windsor store in particular, it just goes to show that LL Bean is going down hill. They clearly don't care about their customers and are ill training their employees. They're probably financially hurting and are taking it out on their customers. I went so far as to file a complaint to the BBB, to which LL Bean never even responded. I will never shop here again. Do yourself a favor and shop for gear at REI. They will actually stand by their products and their return policy and they always put their customers first. read more

Here comes your second 5-stars review LL BEan! The stuff in this store can obviously be very expensive, but they do have some things which are hopefully in most average people's budgets. I bought one pair of moccassins slippers here for my elderly grandmother who is in her early 90s. The saleswoman in the Shoes department there was very friendly and cooperative with me, and did not seem to be put off that I was not very decided on what type of slipper or even what color to buy. She helped me narrow down my decision by offering me some great advice about the inner lining of the slippers, which was the main thing I wanted to focus on: making sure they would be warm enough in the winter time for someone who is elderly and more vulnerable to illness from cold weather like the flu. But the main reason why I want to give them 5 stars, 6 if I could - lol is because the saleswoman must have brought out at least 5 or 6 different pairs of sneakers for me to try on for my own personal use. None of which I ended up buying. I thanked her over and over for all her time and effort, even though I decided to only buy just the cheaper pair of slippers for my grandma. I even felt kind of guilty that I was making her go in and out of the stock room so many times to get shoes for me. The sales woman was very understanding and told me she was 'just doing her job' and that it was not a problem at all, that is what she was there for. To help customers whether they buy anything or not. That was so sweet and understanding on her part. She did not make me feel like I was a bother to her at all. So even though I just bought a miminal purchase there, I still feel like I should recognize there effort to provide top notch service to there customer there. Job well done!!!! read more
