Last of the old-time family-business style sporting goods stores. When you live in suburbia and spend time in the city, you start to get a little sick of big sporting outfits w/lackluster help staff. In fact, people born in the last decade or two probably don't have any concept of a privately owned sporting goods outlet. Anyways, I only went to Farr's for fishing gear and found everything I needed. What was most important was that there was always someone there who knew what was hitting, and what was missing, that week so, being an out of towner, I didnt waste time and money buying things that weren't working at the time. They have several kinds of worms from medium-to-large Canadian nightcrawlers, to red wigglers and meal worms. Plus they also have shiners and a few other things. It's also relevant that they happen to be the only place around for miles that has decent selection and knowledgeable staff. If you need outdoor camping, fishing, biking etc, type stuff, give Farr's a call and ask them if they have what you want. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how friendly and helpful they can be. read more

Been going to Farrs my whole life. I bought my first bike there when I was 9 with my paper route money that's 55 years ago. A great family run store that carries almost all your outdoor and sporting goods needs. In a wheelchair now can't get into the store but still send my wife in to get our fishing stuff. read more

Farr's is an institution in Manchester, a stalwart old-school family-owned sporting goods store. It reminds me of places I patronized as a youngster in search of fishing supplies and bike parts. They have a broad inventory, with bicycles, camping, fishing and hunting supplies, darts, sleds, clothing, and paraphernalia for various team sports. They also have a bicycle repair shop. Downstairs is a clearance area where you can find closeout prices on a variety of items. Back when kids could buy sharp objects and BBs I would go to places like this and fantasize about the guns, knives, and nice fishing equipment that I might purchase one day. These places have become quite rare, perhaps depriving children of opportunities to create, and thereby achieve, their outdoor fantasies. A trip to Farr's is always a joy. I have found the employees to be a nice combination of helpful when help is needed and unobtrusive when I just want to browse. I encourage you to consider them if you are in need of any sporting goods, or at least stop in and browse, enjoy the calm atmosphere, and perhaps find some inspiration. read more

I've been buying my fishing gear and all other sporting goods from farrs for the last 25 years and still do ! Everyone is always so friendly and they always have the highest quality gear for the same prices as anywhere else if not cheaper ! Farrs is a average size store packed with sporting goods of all types.i enjoy shopping there,people are great. I needed a watertight container for tubing for cell ph. and keys to wear around my neck,right at the counter 7 bucks.... Love it! read more

Not part of a chain. The folks here are interested in their customers, and it shows from the moment you walk in. They're friendly and knowledgeable about their extensive range of inventory - which seems to cover just about every outdoor activity. (They may be missing something, but if so, it's too esoteric for me to miss it.) They're quick to offer help, and they'll leave you alone if you just want to wander - they know it's hard to leave without buying something. My recommendation - Shop here FIRST, and you won't need to go to the big boxes. read more

I go in there looking for a buck knife and the woman who unlocked the case was just patronizing me and taking all kinds false interests in my questions. The tall man who works there walks around the store pretending to shop looking for thieves. He thinks he's really sneaky. Then I ask them to order the knife and they say ok it will be here in 4 months. I say great no rush. One year later I still have not gotten a call from Farrs. They don't care. There is ZERO customer service in that store all they do is watch you like a hawk instead of helping. I hate to say it but this place has gone waaayyy down hill since I was a kid. Sad. read more

I adore Farrs. Every staff member is friendly and helpful, and you get a level of service that the big guys like Sports Authority can't even touch. Seriously, the customer service is spectacular and you just feel good about shopping here. read more

Love Farr's. A Manchester staple and icon. Thank goodness there are still family owned businesses like this in town. Whenever we need propane, we come here to support them. Go elsewhere. I had always supported Farrs except their lack of customer service skills, drove me to stop going there. STRIKE 1, While I was buying a bicycle, I was working with one of the employees and had asked if a certain water bottle could be added to the bike I was buying for no charge. He said sure, no problem. I went to pick up my bike and a different employee refused to give me the water bottle that was agreed on. This was even after I had told him me and the other employee had agreed upon this. STRIKE 2, was when I was going through their discs for disc golf under their display rack and this tall guy (I think it his name was Dave) was sitting on a chair and texting. Out of no where, he angrily (not even kidding) asked me if I needed any help. I have no idea where the anger came from but it was one of the worst experiences I've had from an employee..anywhere. STRIKE 3, I was looking through their discs again, same place, under their display discs, that were in boxes. I found two discs and went to the counter to make the purchase.. There weren't any prices on these discs and one of the 2 girls behind the register asked if I had gotten the discs from the boxes underneath the display. I said I did.. she scoffed and with a little attitude said "you're not supposed to go through there" ( I had been told prior to this day it was ok go go through the boxes of discs.) I was about to spend $35-$40 on two golf discs and instead of simply finding the appropriate prices, they made a stink about me taking the two discs out of a box. I dropped the discs on the counter and said I would buy them next time. Walked out and will never go back. I'm very disappointed as I had been a customer there for 25+ years. I agree with another reviewer, farrs has gone wayy down hill. read more
