I've been to this place twice in the last week after not going for years. I went in for a quick pub…read morelunch on a Sunday afternoon and had a very creditable Cajun Chicken. The second time was for a birthday meal. There were eight of us all together and every one really enjoyed their food. The Holden Arms is on the way out of Haslingden on the way to Blackburn, so it's not a place that's on any pub crawl routes. Handy if you've just been for a walk on the hills though. It has a couple of plasma tellies showing football in the pub part, which is very snug and welcoming. The restaurant part is a little dated; it's a really old building but the beams have been plastered over and the carpet and wallpaper look like they were put there in the eighties. There are pictures of Elvis in his black and white years and that rather odd picture of the Last Supper but using Marilyn Monroe and other Hollywood stars instead of Jesus and the Disciples. Odd. But don't let that put you off. As I've said, the food is excellent and well priced (I had fajitas, the rest went for various roasts). The Stella was great and the staff were both friendly and attentive. Good atmosphere too.

The restaurant is out-dated and the strange decor and old beams which have been badly plastered up are a little uncomfortable to look at. It generally looks like it is stuck in a time warp, but maybe that's the feel that the owners want to create. I have always felt that it want's to stay like the old style pubs where the farmers and locals go for company. The Holden Arms caters well for the sporty, footy enthusiasts with big TV's on the walls for easy viewing.

Ive been to this pub on many occaisions with friends, family and friends with young children,…read moreincluding my own daughter. On most of the occasions I've been the service has been good with no complaints. You order your food at the bar and it usually arrives promptly. The food has always been of good quality, good value for money (even more so with any offers on) and of more than ample portion sizes. The staff are usually polite and helpful and usually quickly correct any mistakes with any orders, which to my experience doesn't happen very often. The only occaision Ive had bad service, we were in fairness warned they were a bit busy on ordering the main course, but not to the 50 minutes it took for the main course to arrive. As the non kitchen staff prepare the desserts in an area seperate to the kitchen and were blatently not busy, we were quite frankly appauled that the desserts also took around 50minutes to arrive, we had 2 children with us and had chased the desserts up at 30 minutes after them being ordered to be told they would only be a few minutes and it took over a further 15 minutes to arrive. I did raise this with the member of staff when the desserts were finally brought (I don't usually like to complain, but both children were tired and it had taken around 2 1/2 hours for a course meal) who then just stood there looking at me like I had acquired a second head with nothing to say, not even an appology. On another occaision myself and my partner went for tea and unfortunately ordered behind a large group of 16. Thankfully as its easier to time two meals together than 16 ours wasn't held up by the larger order. Despite the one bad experience I have been back and will continue to use the pub as hopefully it was a one off. It is good value, there is a supervised play area for the children upstairs for a small charge, and there is also a small play area outside.

This is a nice family eating and drinking place set near the rawtenstall to bury train tracks. The food is reasonably priced and is generally good service. Always a little wait for food but then that can only be expected when it's so popular.
