I can't think of a single fault in the food that he produces, and all the feedback from customers has always been good. The staff are friendly and welcoming. There's kareoke on a Thursday, and a D-J for Friday and Saturday night, sometimes live bands are performing. Sport is shown on the 72" TV and 2 other Tv's around the pub. There is now even a TV available outside in the smoking area, making it possible to watch sport from anywhere in the pub.

The second time was for a birthday meal. There were eight of us all together and every one really enjoyed their food. The Holden Arms is on the way out of Haslingden on the way to Blackburn, so it's not a place that's on any pub crawl routes. Handy if you've just been for a walk on the hills though. It has a couple of plasma tellies showing football in the pub part, which is very snug and welcoming. The restaurant part is a little dated; it's a really old building but the beams have been plastered over and the carpet and wallpaper look like they were put there in the eighties. There are pictures of Elvis in his black and white years and that rather odd picture of the Last Supper but using Marilyn Monroe and other Hollywood stars instead of Jesus and the Disciples. Odd. But don't let that put you off. As I've said, the food is excellent and well priced (I had fajitas, the rest went for various roasts). The Stella was great and the staff were both friendly and attentive. Good atmosphere too.

The restaurant is out-dated and the strange decor and old beams which have been badly plastered up are a little uncomfortable to look at. It generally looks like it is stuck in a time warp, but maybe that's the feel that the owners want to create. I have always felt that it want's to stay like the old style pubs where the farmers and locals go for company. The Holden Arms caters well for the sporty, footy enthusiasts with big TV's on the walls for easy viewing.

Then they told me that there is a brewery beneath the pub! WOW! The beer Pennine Brewery was gorgeous. The pub decor is rather old but the seating is clean and tidy and there is loads of room. We arrived at 8pm on a Wednesday and found just two customers sitting, with a further drinker at the bar. The welcome we received was friendly and hospitable. Shortly after taking our seats the pub started to fill up. We had dropped in on the Quiz night. We were soon roped in and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening that even included supper. Value for money was excellent. Parking is on the street. I would definitely recommend this pub for its friendly atmosphere and its fine, micro-brewery ales and beers.

Best find on holiday ever!!…read more Set in a beautiful little village with a huge village green with loads of parking round and about (although im sure that on a mid summer sunny day parking may be somewhat difficult!). The pub has a bar area and a restaurant area - we only ever went into the bar as you could eat int here and it was really cosy (dogs are also allowed!). The staff were incredibly friendly and chatty (lets face it, Yorkshire, particularly North Yorkshire folk are possibly the most friendly on the planet - i challenge you to disprove this!). The food was INCREDIBLE. Nothing fancy pants, just really good food, VERY big portions (trust me on this, you dont need three courses - choose your weapon of starter or dessert to go alongside your main - we made the mistake one night and 1) couldnt eat it all and 2)pretty much rolled home). We spent an evening in the pub, had a meal and then sat playing card games - we felt incredibly welcome. So welcome that we ended up visiting three times in a week long holiday. You cant really get a better recommendation than that can you??
