We have eaten food from the Siam Garden twice both times as a takeaway. The food was excellent, we…read morewere getting very fed up with chinese food and Indian curries so we yelped and found this place. We didnt know it existed having driven past it most days for the last 6 years! What a find! The food is tremendous, very tasty. I had chicken satay and a green curry both times. The restaurant looks clean, staff are very friendly, as the other poster mentions you do get welcomed by everyone, but that is not a bad thing. My youngest who is 5 came to pick up one of the takeaways and the staff spoke with him and taught him hello in Thai. We will be going back, hopefully if we can get a baby sitter we will eat in next time. The yelp, page says child friendly - no , I'm not sure why. My children (11 & 5 yrs old) eat curry, chinese and Thai!

Another romantical date to Siam Garden... this time with my work BFF. Admittedly we have loads of…read moreromantical dates... Sunsets in Florence, canals in Venice... by the time a guy gets hold of us, there won't be any romantical dates left to take us on! Anyway, this time is was thai in the thriving metropolis that is Grantham... BAHAHA. Anyway we walked in, it was a bit weird because everyone and their mom greeted us, asked us if we had a reservation, then looked around awkwardly because we said we didn't, one staff member went to get menus while we stood their awkwardly in the doorway with every new staff member appearing bowing to us, then another staff member asking us to have a seat in their waiting area, and a minute after sitting the guy standing with the menus said, "Please follow me." Remember that scene in "Wedding Crashers" where Vince Vaughn's character goes into a rant about blind dates and he talks so fast and keeps going, until he takes a breather at the end... that my account of what happened upon arrival was just that... in my head that is. Moving on, at an ever increasing rate... (probably shouldn't do this after having half a bottle of red wine) we decided to share some of the veggie eggrolls and I decided to try the dish that I have been wanting to for some time... the battered duck with tamarind sauce and crispy noodles. Work BFF had the chicken pad thai. The duck was wonderful! It was crispy, juicy and the tamarind sauce was beautiful. Forget sweet and sour sauce, this is much better. And the crispy noodles were interesting, but really good with the whole dish. We decided to move onto dessert, despite having parts of our dishes put into takeaway boxes. Work BFF had the fried bananas with coconut and maple syrup. I had the Swirl Toffee Bake. No where in the description did it say that it was just a cheesecake with toffee swirl on top. The fried bananas were delicious, the coconut didn't really come through, but made for a nice crispy topping on the bananas, but because of the maple syrup, it almost tasted like banana pancakes =). Mine on the other hand... it was ok, but as far as cheesecake goes, I make a better cheesecake and so does Morrisons. Service as far as getting more water and the check were really slow tonight. Then after we sat at the table for awhile with the check, we were finally told we had to pay at the desk... hence Siam Garden will stay at the 4 stars for now.

Stumbled across this place completely by accident! Mrs G and I decided to take a nice drive through…read morethe beautiful Peak District on a gorgeous sunny December day. First stop was Matlock - cute little village, powerful river flowing though town, nice views all around. We wanted to have lunch but hadn't really seen anything and so we decided to head to Bakewell (about 20 minutes drive) when I noticed a classy, inviting, purple sign by the road "The Orangery". We quickly turned around and are so glad that we did! We had a really GREAT lunch and have already booked again for Christmas Eve when our daughter and new husband visit. It may sound odd but it used to be part of a very prestigious school for over a century - the most famous "Old Girl" was Richmal Crompton who wrote all the "William" books that I devoured as a kid. Now the whole complex is basically a old peoples home (Man are they lucky!!). So the lunchgoers were, on average, grey haired (but I am going that way too) - but it was fairly quiet in terms of lunchgoers and music (just the right volume - Christmas songs, Wham and many many more of the favorites. The restaurant drips class, the bistro also (full bar). A wide selection of offerings _ I seriously wanted the prawn curry but got lured into a Christmas special. Wonderful staff, great food, excellent service - and beautiful nooks for a quiet or romantic lunch. Try it you'll like it! Two big thumbs up Review #108 2019
