The sauces are all rather vinegary. There are 5 sauces 2 reds (mild & hot), 2 mustard-based (mild & hot) and one hot vinegar. The pulled pork and burnt ends portions were very generous but the meat lacked moisture and depth of smoke. The greens are quite sweet and already have vinegar added (tasted like maybe red-wine vinegar). The potato salad unfortunately was quite tasteless. Service was very good. read more

After a long day of driving I was told to try WOODSTACK BBQ. Arrived on a Saturday night around 830pm - BAR was Busy, DINING ROOM had a few open tables but there was LIVE MUSIC , and there was OUTSIDE SEATING in a porch ... Got the House Bloody Mary, St Louis Style Ribs, Corn on cob, and Tater Tots... they have 5 SAUCES - hot vinegar, mustard vinegar, Smokey sweet, sweet'n hot, and Mustard ... the ribs were Smokey and tender, the corn was grilled to perfection and sweet - the tater tots were soggy not crispy and hot... when I asked server she steered me away from the Mac n Cheese but seemed to like the Brussels sprouts (I don't eat)...I pushed myself to get through the whole meal it was A LOT of FOOD ... if you had to rate it by how many napkins I used ... This is a food service issue. My wife and I called in a carry out order last night as we frequently do. She ordered a hamburger without cheese. What she got was a hamburger without cheese lettuce and tomato. Just a hamburger and bun. The meat looked like a frozen patty based on shape Staff we spoke to on the phone offered a 10% discount on our next order or drive back and they would put the garden on the burger. We live 10 miles from the restaurant so it was not feasible to take another 20 mile round trip. We declined the offer and stated we will not buy food from them again. Manager we spoke with seemed happy with our decision. No apology from any restaurant staff we spoke with. Also my wife witnessed a dine in customer complaining about her bill. She evidently was charged too much for an item. All indicators of how the business is run. read more

Was in town for a baseball tournament and saw this place. I took 10 kids and 10 adults here hoping it would work out and Woodstack delivered. The food was amazing, excellent pork and the ribs were killer. Side dishes were fantastic and the chocolate chess pie was great. The service was wonderful and they were so nice, remember I had (10) 12 year old boys so it wasn't easy. I will 100% be back here anytime I am in Valdosta area. read more

I never really associated Valdosta with BBQ but all that changed after having dinner at Woodstack, not knowing anything about them except what I read on Yelp and comparing them to the other guys in town it seems we made the right choice by coming here while traveling north to Tennessee. Although the parking lot was not as full as I had expected this early on a Friday night it was apparent by the smokey smell of bbq in the parking lot that something good was happening on the pits located in back of the restaurant. Immediately upon entering through the front door we were greeted by the hostess and although we could barely hear anything she was saying due to the extremely loud musical being played in the adjacent bar area we managed to communicate using hand signals and requested that we be seated as far away from the acoustic duo yelling some indiscernible song off key as possible (these guys were so bad I started to throw a twenty in the tip jar to get them to take a break while we enjoyed dinner) fortunately they took a break just as Hannah arrived at our table to take our drink order. After bringing our iced tea she answered a few questions and offered up some great recommendations and now the race against time began - we were hoping the food would arrive before the talent returned to the stage and it did thankfully. The bbq meats are absolutely perfect we tried the brisket, ribs and chicken and I honestly can't tell you which one was better than the other - the chicken was throughly smoked and very moist and tender no sauce required, the ribs were juicy, barked up with a nice smoke ring and had the perfect resistance releasing from the bone and chewiness which I absolutely love, these are the kind of ribs you pick up with you fingers and dive in (if done right I really prefer this method over the fall off the bone Q). The brisket was probably the star if you forced an answer it was tender with a perfect lean to fat ratio with a nice smoke ring and crusty bark, everything we tried was great. I did try a few of the sauces but there's really no need, the flavors from the seasoning and smoke provided everything I was looking for. We also tried the Mac n Cheese which is arguably the best on the planet according to my better half, the side salad, the lima beans and the amazing house made pickle bowl which is a must try - Woodstack may have discovered the absolute perfect bbq side dish, these pickles could be, should be their signature dish yea yea I heard about the burnt ends but I ate these and let me tell you they are legendary. Over all a great food experience and outstanding service - as for the entertainment I hope those two yo-yos singing were either family or cheap because that the only negative I found here... read more

Stopped here o our way to FL, found this place on Yelp & definitely weren't disappointed! Fantastic food!! We stopped about 1 hr before the closes on a Sum night & the service was still wonderful! (friendly & attentive staff) I had the Thunderhouse brisket sandwich (beef brisket, mushrooms, queso w/au jus on side with choice of 1 side (I got tater tots) . Normally I would choose pork BBQ but boy was I glad I tried the beef brisket, it was moist, well seasoned & tender. The Au jus was tasty & seasoned just right! Mushrooms & queso together w/the brisket was PERFECTION! Wonderful Taste explosion! Hubby had the BBQ sandwich w/steak fries. The were kind enough to chop my husband's sandwich up due to dental Issues. They have 4 sauces to choose from & my husband chose the original sauce (tomato based & tangy). My BFF had the same sandwich w/Mac-n-cheese & she mixed the original w/sweet & spicy sauce (the one in the red cap) to give the original a little extra kick. There are 2 other mustard based sauces to choose from as well. The Mac-n-cheese was very good & cheesy. Highly recommend! I love this local BBQ joint. They have traditional favorites of any quality barbecue place (burnt ends, brisket, etc.) AND they round out the menu with more progressive fare like Pulled Pork Ramen. We pulled a 'doh' here on one of our first visits (we thought they were open until 10 when in fact they close at 9 on weeknights). The staff was super kind about our mistake and didn't chase us out the door as we were still eating well after 9. Friendliness goes a long way in my book. read more

I had the tacos and my husband had the brisket sandwich, we each had a local beer. The only complaint is that portions are kind of small so don't come here if you are starving. We stopped for lunch on a 12 hour drive from Nashville to FL. Found it from sign on the highway. Lisa immediately greeted us with a smile and quick service. We could tell right away that she was going to be an outstanding waitress. Our daughter is trying to get stickers from every state we go through, and it's more difficult than it should be. I asked if they sold stickers and Lisa thought for a second, pulled one out of her notebook, and gave it to me. It doesn't say Georgia, but that's where it is from. And now it has sentimental value too! She says she's had it for a while and hasn't stuck it to anything and insisted we take it. So sweet!!! Not only was the food outstanding, but the service Lisa gave us was the icing on the cake. If we are ever back in Valdosta, we WILL be back. Thank you, Lisa! read more

WOW! What a great find on our (my wife and Il way home from Florida (to Tennessee). We love these little hidden spots, Woodstack is not really hidden, but it is further from I75 than a larger BBQ spot. We both ordered a two meat plate. My wife ordered the burnt ends and brisket while I ordered the burnt ends and smoked sausage. Sides: Slaw, baked beans, okra, and fries. I have never had whole fried okra, but each side was delicious Now, onto the meat - The burnt ends were the star of the show. No secret why these things sell out so quickly, so I am glad we got there when we did. Juicy, tender, moist...no real need for any one of the five sauces provided at the table. The brisket and the smoked sausage were both really good too. When it comes to the sauces, I enjoyed the Carolina Gold and the Sweet & Spicy sauce to the others while my wife was a bigger fan of the Sweet & Spicy and Original. So, if you are passing through Valdosta and you want a good meal give this spot a shot. If you live in the Valdosta area and have NOT eaten at Woodstack...what the heck is wrong with you? Woodstack BBQ Taven is located a couple miles from the interstate and serves some traditional BBQ dishes along with some more unique BBQ sandwich options. The ambiance of the restaurant is a little bit strange and does not feel like it pairs with the food they serve but besides that Woodstack offers some solid options for those looking to kick a BBQ craving. Shown below are my personal favorite options off of their menu. Pork Rinds ($5): This is my favorite appetizer they serve. The pork rinds come crackling hot on a large metal tray and are served with a side of pepper jelly. Mac & Cheese: The best side dish on the menu. Thunder Attack ($12): This sandwich is not always being served but comes stacked high with brisket, pork, and chicken on texas toast. Dirty South ($11): Pulled pork and pimento cheese on a bun. Burnt Ends: These are often served as a side or sometimes served within a special sandwich. Either way, they are incredible. All in all, Woodstack is a good addition to the BBQ Valdosta offers. I would come here if you are looking for some less traditional BBQ sandwiches that can not be found at other BBQ restaurants in the area. read more

Stopped on the way north. Started with the Brunswick stew. Fantastic taste and served nuclear hot; my grandmother would not be diappointed. I found the stew to be more soup-like in consistency, which isn't my preference, but again the taste was very good. For mains, I had the two-meat platter, brisket - lean end -, and pulled pork with collards and fresh fruit. Again, everything had great flavor, although I think the brisket was over-seasoned. Being raised as a Texas-purist, I tend to believe that great BBQ is subtle and lets the deliciousness of good ingredients show through. Woodstack sources from great local suppliers, so there's no reason to discard subtlety. My guess is that the Boston Butt was treated with a flavor injector, and again it was a little too much. (EDIT: I'm told that they dont use a flavor injector, but instead sprinkle the pork with the rub as it's pulled. ) Slow-cooked pork is one of the greatest, most sublime tastes that I know, let it show through. Lastly, I was told that they smoke with oak, which surprised me, I thought I tasted a heavier smoke, like hickory. That said, I thought the meats were a little over-smoked. Surprisingly, the smoke ring was almost non-existent. All in all, I enjoyed dinner very much. Way better than the place down the street. read more

Myself and 2 others tried Woodstack while driving north in Georgia before Hurrixane Irma. We were pleased to find this is legitimately good bbq not too far off the highway. We chose to fine in and ordered combo plates so that we could try their pulled pork, chicken, brisket, ribs and sausage. From reading the menu it's pretty clear that they take the quality of their meats seriously, procuring locally produced stuff and breed specific meat ( Duroc pork). We were really happy with the quality of the food. All the meats were enjoyable and we particularly liked the sausage and chicken. The brisket was done Texas style (sliced) unlike other places in the Deep South that will serve it "chopped". They had Several different kinds of sauces available to try as well though the meat certainly didn't require them. The sides were nice too, and we particularly liked their Mac n cheese. Service was great too! Overall, not just some run of the mill mediocre bbq joint trying to trap people off the highway. Woodstack is legitimately good bbq. Yesterday must have been an off day here. The brisket was tough and more like thick sliced bacon, the beans were definitely from the previous day or way over cooked.
