I went in specifically for a Bordeaux and it was in stock. I shared a picture and the cashier took me straight to it. I chilled it then popped the cork. It was delicious! Even though I live in Metro Detroit I have never been to this store in person but instead buy wine from this business on line when I see a good sale price on a wine I have been tracking. As my home is in Oakland county and this business is on the other side of Detroit the ride is just to far for my taste and the flat rate shipping they have for this area at $25/case too good to pass up, especially when you consider the present cost of gas and value of my time when considering it is a 2.5 hr R/T drive to this business from my home. Having said all that, I am on the mailing list for this business and see regular/daily sale notifications of wines they are carrying. These prices in many cases are advertised as the lowest price in the USA and based on my checking on wine-searcher.com the stated claims are always accurate. During my most recent purchase I just bought a Case of the 2020 Daou Cabernet, a fabulous rated value wine made in the French Bordeaux style, from Paso Robles for $19.84. The same wine is for sale at Plum market and Costco for nearly $25/bottle which made this a very good bargain buying from Wood's. Other out of state wine distributors that are at this price have higher shipping costs to Michigan making this the best bargain I could find. If you are on top of your game when tracking prices of wines you like/want you will come to appreciate what Woods has to offer from a variety of selection, quality of their wines and the competitiveness of their prices, in particular their sale prices. As for customer service and their shipping process/dunnage, In all the on line orders I have placed with Woods I have had no issues whatsoever with this business. The wine usually arrives at my house two days after ordering it. Additionally they have some of the safest/most robust shipping dunnage I have ever seen where the cases are packed in a dense styrofoam that separates and encapsulates each individual bottle very securely. Overall, I am very happy with this business and will continue to give them my business in the future! Also keep the flat rate shipping in mind if you are in the Metro Detroit area as you may find like I do that this is a great option in lieu of driving to the business. read more

I honestly wish I could give less than a star. My husband and I came in to the store to place a semi large( almost $5,000) order for an event. Waited in line while a gentlemen was being waited on. 3 other cashiers/staff where standing around and not waiting on anyone. Just looking on their phone and on the computer. And then when they finally decided to grace us with their service, attempted to take another customer around me. I finally get to the counter, and the way the young lady waited on me, like it was such a hindrance in her work day to wait on customers. I was absolutely appalled as it seems as though that the only one receiving horrible customer service was the person of color in the store. I can't speak to the in-store experience but shipping from them was top notch. I found them through a random wine app while I was looking for something *very* specific for a special occasion. My usual online ordering spots didn't have what I was looking for but these folks did. The price was reasonable and with shipping came to about what normal retail was anyway which I was happy about considering this wine was nowhere to be found. The primary reason for the 5 stars is somehow I got my order in time even though it was going to be a toss up if I got it in time. There weren't any upgraded shipping options so I risked it. I ordered on a Saturday afternoon and received on the following Thursday- they shipped it instantly! It arrived safely and was well packaged. So, all I can say is THANK YOU! Very odd experience! I called in regarding a $700.00 bottle of fine wine (2018 Colgin Tychson Hill), which I was looking to order and have shipped to me! I spoke with someone in the wine department who advised me that he had 5 of them on hand or in stock. I asked him if he could check to see which one is in the best overall condition, since this would have been given as a gift to someone special. He advised me he was going to check and call me right back. I gave him my # (twice). But no one ever called back. I guess these folks don't need my money or business, or, they simply didn't have the wine in stock. Either way, someone should have called. Not the least bit recommended. read more

After 8 years of loyal patronage, I ordered a case of sparkling wine for a party, fully well knowing it would get here in time since it was coming from Michigan to Indiana, and the confirmation email stated as such. Nevertheless, the party came and went without the wine, without updates from Woods or Fedex, and I had to go buy more wine during the party which disrupted the festivities. Even two days after the party, both Fedex and Woods web site show that only the label has been created, that it hasn't even been turned over to Fedex for shipping. Their customer service voicemail greeting is left over from January of last year and they are not responding to me. I've asked for a refund at this point. Great selection and clean store. But...terrible customer service! Absolutely terrible! I've gone into this store twice. Both times 'sales people' just standing around deliberately ignoring customers. Unless you're one of the preferred customers they ignore you. I asked where a specific scotch was and the woman behind the counter motioned with her head and said, 'It's right over there honey...you passed it on the way in." To ignore a customer is simply rude. Today I called ahead and asked about an imported rum. The lady said yes, that they had 2 bottles. There were 4 salespeople working behind the desk and 2 doing some kind of inventory. So I asked at the desk where the rum was and the rolled her eyes and said, 'right there in front of you!' Apparently I made the mistake of interrupting the staff watching the ballgame! My sincerest apologies for interrupting your game...I promise it will never happen again! P.S. You're not the only liquor store in the area. read more

They deserve a minus 5. The biggest fraudsters and lesson learned: if it seems too good to be true, then chances are that it isn't true. I ordered three vintage bottles of Cristal as a holiday gift for a client on December 21, with an assurance that the order would be fulfilled within 7 to 10 days. I called almost daily after a week, to find out the status, and got the runaround. I should have canceled then, but was reassured by the person I spoke with. Then, nothing and no delivery. My calls and emails to them yesterday were ignored. Today, more than two weeks later, I called them yet again and I received a recorded message that they were closed for a week. Their website today similarly indicated that they were closed for a week unit next Monday. It was only after I notified American Express today of the problem, and disputed the $650 charge, that I received an email response to my email from yesterday apologizing for their "overselling" the vintage, and offering me the option to replace the vintage at an additional charge. At an additional charge? Seriously? The whole thing was a scam. Anyone with inventory knows what they have, and they couldn't sell it to me for the price advertised. So they gave me the run around while they held on to my money. What a complete joke these people are. I suspect that any positive reviews for Woods Wholesale Wines that appear on Yelp are either old or are part of their hoax. Take a look at the number of recent negative reviews, and DON'T BE FOOLED the way I was! read more

I wanted to order some champagne for my birthday so I could celebrate. I called and they were very helpful over the phone. I was kind of hesitant to order because they ship with FedEx and the champagne was arriving in California...I didn't want it to be broken (from past experiences with FedEx). Shipping cost was reasonable, shipping/delivery lightning fast, and best of all they used insulating styrofoam and put a little cold pack beneath each bottle to protect from the summer heat. I really wanted to make this my new place to buy wine and champagne. They have great prices and a great selection. Right before Valentine's Day, I placed a $300 order (with shipping) - mostly champagne and a bottle of Cab. Well, the 3 Veuve Demi Sec splits that I ordered were all bad. It took me several weeks to get to all of them and getting one bad bottle is understandable but all 3 was terribly disappointing. While the bad bottles are not their fault - they did nothing to rectify the $80 poured down the drain. I was asked if I still had the box and bottles. I'm not really sure why I would keep them but since I do not, they advised that there is nothing they could do. I would have happily continued to order had I received better customer service. We ordered a bottle of HIghclere Castle Gin on April 11 and we were supposed to get it April 22,in Palm Springs, via UPS. The UPS tracking number said the order was sent back to Woods. I called Woods April 23, and they said all Highclere Castle orders were sent back to them by UPS. So I was told they would now be resent via FedEx. We went through a lot of hassle to track down what went wrong, some of it the fault of UPS. If FedEx comes through I will revise my grade to three stars, but I have never heard of a problem like this before. So if you ordered Highclere Castle Gin, and you didn't get it, this is the explanation given to me. read more

I really like the setup of the shop. It is well lit, clean and inviting. They have a great selection of local Michigan beer and wine, including a nice mix of L Mawby, my favorite regional sparkling producer. I had a nice conversation with the owner and when I asked about a few items that I didn't see he was more than happy to order them for me without me having to commit to buying the minimum order amount he was held to, even if I just wanted one. To Recap: The Good: I was pleasantly surprised at the variety of wines offered and a nice of mix of price points as well. The support of Michigan breweries and wineries was also a nice touch. The hard liquor selection was impressive and if they don't have it, they will order it, great customer service. The Bad: There isn't a ton of refrigeration space and it tends to be stocked with more of the high volume stuff, which I understand, but it would be cool to have a cooler dedicated to some local or harder to find brews.
