The modern, abstract, and colorful re-modeling really makes it stand out. The children's programs are amazing and I wish I knew about them when I was younger. They also have great adult programs which I highly recommend for those looking for free, inexpensive things to do with friends and family. If you are an out of district patron, you are more than welcome to check out books but you do have to go to the Customer service desk to make an out of district card that is good for a year. After you have that you can checkout most of the materials and have access to a select few programs.

So after hitting the Yale Center for British Art, we speed walked (sped walked?) over to the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. Why? Google it and you'll understand when you see the pictures. Beinicke is Yale's rare book and manuscript library - not their main university library or their law library. The reading room is open to registered researchers only, but the public are welcome to visit the library's exhibition hall. And everyone visiting New Haven should! The library was built in 1963, and the the architecture is incredible. The building is a granite veneer shell, fastened to a structural steel frame. Inside that structure is a glass-enclosed tower of book cases. The granite was milled to 1.25 inches thick to allow filtered daylight in - in the afternoon/early evening, the marble turned an amber color. We walked back past it at night for a different view of the building. It is really incredible architecture, and the library hosts exhibits you can see in the exhibition hall when you visit to enjoy the building (when we visited, the exhibit was "Taught By the Pen: The World of Islamic Manuscripts"). The building is incredible and definitely worth a visit if you're exploring the Yale campus!

The general public has limited access, and this will be a short stop for most people, depending upon the exhibit. So impressed how beautiful all of our north shore community libraries are worth all the tax dollars we spend honestly. She loves her job and the kids of valley stream which I appreciate so much. My father uses takes my daughter and we always raves about how fun the events are with Ms. Kunz. I went for myself and was so impressed. She gets all the kids involved and happy. In the summer they have the story times all around the neighborhood such as firemans field, village green, green acres mall and more. My daughter absolutely loves the Valley Stream childrens program and as a parent who couldn't afford summer camp I appreciate this program so much. It helps us keep our children busy and entertained. Ms Kunz, please keep doing the children's program because you are a blessing to Valley Stream and it's residents!

The librarians inside are some of the warmest people I met in my entire life. Not fake politeness, but genuine niceness. Especially the elderly man at the counter on ground floor. Everyone was extremely helpful and made me feel welcome for living in Weehawken. Guess what, they also let me check out 2 books on the day I went. At any time, with a library card one can check out as many as 56 books. The view from the library windows upstairs is great. This might be a great spot for studying. But honestly, book collection wise this library branch is not great, but 100 points for looking like Hogwarts.

There are a lot of programs for guests of all ages, and there is a theater, game room for teens, a kids section, and an outdoor section. My only complaint would be that there are not many computers there, and that the game room exclusive computers do not let you download games. Overall, this library is very nice and I would recommend visiting it.

I keep seeing groups of kids coming in just to hang out really, and that would be perfectly fine if they weren't watching videos on high volume or talking as if they're outside.

The only negative was that I was expecting a coffee machine in the cafe they have but no coffee or tea. There was only a vending machine for snacks. Tea/Coffee machine would definitely be a nice addition. But other than that it's a nice library with lots of room to spread out. Lots of private nooks to study or have group sessions. There's a huge conference room and a very nice game room, too!
