I think most employees speak Spanish which is nice for the Latino community so they feel welcome and included. Plus they get special funding to do more community events for kids. I've never had a bad experience with anyone for the last six months I've been coming which is more than I can say for the rest! I go around 3x a week and love it!

So many reviewers have commented on the historic building and it's beauty that has lasted through the years for one of the first Carnegie Libraries. The Library serves over 30,000 library users, and has over 70,000 books.. Your library card opens up a world of information. According to the library website " your library cards gives you access to computers, hot spots, printers, data bases, ebooks, and much more." As for research there is the Kentucky Room that offers historical information about both Shelby County and Kentucky. In my review I want to exclaim about all the Programs and Events this library sponsors for adults, teens, and children. As lsted on the library website there is; Slow Burn Book Clib, Yoga, Brown Bag Book Club, Preschool Story Time, Chair Yoga, The Writer's Group, Baby Storytime, Cardio Drummer's, and Tai Chi. I have also read with interest in our local newspaper that there is a librarian that specializes in helping people with tracing their roots and completing searches on family trees. In addition to all the regular programs this prize of a library sponsors all sorts of continual seasonal events. You have already had the chance to read about the iceless ice skating but thats not enough. Events listed on the library website include Merry Mug Makers for teens, LaBuBu Holiday Ornament workshop for teens, Merry Clarkin Christmas Party, Festive Movie Night playing " National Lampoons Christmas Vacation" and more. Libraries have changed through the years but I am thankful to have such a complete and active library. The only drawback to this library experience was not their fault when the local Reformation Church had members check out books "as an act of civil disobedience to remove books that did not agree with their beliefs and refuse to return them" Fear not the list of books was printed in the local newspaper and once again I'm thankful that the Shelbyville Community answered the call tenfold to replace the books and provide money for the future to expand topics of interest to ALL PEOPLE.

Sometimes, it's nice to have…read morea face to face conversation with a human being to have circumstances reviewed and questions answered. That face to face meeting was exactly what I needed to happen with the Social Security Administration. After phoning the appropriate phone number I was a tad bit worried about the experience I may have during an actual meeting. If rating the phone experience alone it would be a 2.5 stars. This is based on busy signals, rambling messages, worming through the transfer system and the inability to talk to a live representative. So I went to the Social Security Administration without having a scheduled appointment. I feared disorganization and long waits. Oh how I had misjudged this agency with wrong preconceived notions. I met my husband in the parking lot and we entered the building together. Upon entering we were greeted from a distance by a security guard who pointed to a registration machine. Wow, a nice clean touch screen system, where you enter your Social Security number, then follow the prompts for reason for visit, etc. At the end it spits out a small paper tag with your registration number. We had a seat in the clean lobby and proceeded to wait for our number to be called. Within 10 minutes we were called to window "number" B. We met briefly with that employee who determined we needed to meet with a case worker who could further answer our questions, print out our options, and assist us with evaluating the whole picture. So we went back to the lobby area to wait. I figured it would be another 10-15 minutes. Wrong again. We no more than took a seat and we heard our last name announced and were told to go to window number 11. The case worker was a delightful, intelligent young lady who understood our questions and was armed with computer print outs of our collective Social Security data. She plunked the information we presented into the system and printed out our options. We were not rushed to make a decision but advised to take the information home with us and decide what works best with our current financial situation. She informed us because we had shown up in-person to make the inquiries she would generate a letter that was good for six months to make that date be the application date. WOW, my head is still spinning with this positive experience. Now we have a phone number to call to make an appointment or we can complete our application process on-line. A true five star experience with a government agency.

It's a simple monument, but once you read into it, you realize how important William Shannon was to the founding of the area he actually donated land that helped establish Shelbyville back in the 1790s. The marker itself isn't anything flashy, so don't expect a big attraction or anything interactive. But if you enjoy local history, it's worth a quick stop. It gives you a real sense of how early settlements were formed and the role individuals played in shaping towns like this. I'd say it's a solid quick visit nothing you go out of your way for, but definitely a nice historical touch if you're already in the area.
