The Mary Todd Lincoln House is a beautifully preserved window into the early life of a complex First Lady and the turbulent times she lived through. We opted for the guided tour, and it was absolutely the right choice. Phillip was our guide, and he didn't just recite facts. He gave perspective. Thoughtful, objective, and deeply knowledgeable, he handled the complicated dynamics of a slave-owning border state with grace and clarity. He was also incredibly kind in his portrayal of Mary Todd Lincoln, helping us see her not as a caricature, but as a layered, resilient, and deeply human figure. Each room is meticulously curated. Not every item was original to the Todd or Lincoln families, but everything was period appropriate and helped tell the story. The artifacts weren't just on display. They became part of the narrative, which made it all the more engaging. What surprised me most was how much the visit made me reflect on grief ... her profound losses, her perseverance, and the emotional weight she carried as First Lady during the Civil War. It gave me a new respect for her. And even better? My wife, who is not a big history buff, was the one who suggested we go, and she loved it. That says a lot. The whole tour ran a little over an hour and was the perfect pace. Despite the unseasonably hot June day, the air conditioning kept us comfortable, and the staff were welcoming from start to finish. Bonus points for the gift shop, it's small, but full of genuinely cool and thoughtful items. Well worth the money. Perfect for history buffs, curious minds, and even the skeptics. Educational, immersive, and honest. This isn't just a house. It is a home full of stories. As soon as your book is ready, they email and text you. You can go anytime the library is open to pick up the book. I think they hold the book for several days, In case you can't come get it when it's ready. You pull up to the curbside spot and call the library. They bring it out within minutes. It's so fast and easy!! If the book isn't available, they put you in line for the book and text you when it is your turn to check it out.

Clearly this old lady has no clue as to her role as a Notary. Went to a local Attorney's office and they notarized it without any problems. Clearly the librarian was attempting to practice law without a license. The lady needs to be investigated as she is giving legal advice on international documents and has not a clue what she's talking about.

I feel like everything in my life is breaking…read more The hot water heater. The water pipes. My truck. My hearing aid. My body. My laptop. Even my freakin' website doesn't work at the moment. GAH! It's been one of those winters where I just want to disappear under a pile of fleece blankets and emerge when spring arrives. But... I can't do that. Life goes on. However, when you write a blog, Yelp reviews, emails, and do lots of research online to help with upcoming plans and ideas (like... building a house), you can only go so many days before the lack of a working computer drives you mad. Your phone can only do much, and your hands start to hurt after awhile. What sort of saved me? This library. I am sooooo thankful for this library!! My town's library is too small (and is actually way out of my way on my routes to/from work) and Lexington is too far. Georgetown? Right in the middle and less than 10 minutes from where I work. Perfect. They've got quite a few computers available for patron usage, up to two hours a day. I am not going every day nor am I getting EVERYTHING done that I need, but it has been so nice to come here a couple times and TYPE things on a KEYBOARD and not stare at a tiny phone screen. I'll be coming here a lot in the next few weeks until I save up enough money to buy a new laptop. As for the rest of the library --- it's really nice. New-ish and spacious with an eye-grabbing kids area off to the side and a decent selection of books, magazines, and media surrounding a couple work tables. There's even a cozy genealogy room with several lamp-lit tables. It's not a large library, but they offer so much --- which makes me happy. Everyone is friendly and the self-checkout enables speedy checkouts if you're in a hurry like I usually am. Thanks again, Scott County Library. You're swell.

One is the YRC Freight parking lot at 444 Transport Court (public property) and the other is along this semi-private road that leads into the GP factory at 451 Harbison Road. Although it is closed to traffic, you can access this by foot to take in all the historical feeling it exudes. While it did have a lot of graffiti, I'm glad I checked it out and gave my dog a different scenery to explore. If you're a history buff, it's worth detouring here because it's quite unusual to see a relic like this elsewhere. It's secluded enough to offer privacy yet inviting enough for the public to check out. Although my visit was short, it certainly was worthwhile.

The Switzer Covered Bridge is the official state covered bridge of Kentucky. Built in around 1855…read moreand restored in 1906, it was closed to traffic in 1954 then restored again in 1997 after a flood swept it off its foundation. The bridge formerly carried Kentucky route 1262 across North Elkhorn Creek. It is a 120 foot long Howe truss design and was replaced by a concrete bridge that now carries the traffic. A few folks were here enjoying the slow moving creek as a watering hole and swimming spot. There are some picnic tables and it's a nice shady spot away from too many people. We loved our visit to the Old State Capital of Kentucky. The Greek Revival building is stately with…read morea colonial touch. The building served as the State Capitol from 1830-1910 and was the third building to hold the honor. (The prior two buildings were destroyed by fire.) This building, designed by Gideon Shryock, was mostly built using Kentucky limestone from nearby Kentucky river. The facade is unusual in that there are no windows at the front entrance, only a huge door. The front is adorned with massive columns. We entered on the side. $8 tickets gave us access to the building plus two other museums. A walking tour with paper guide is available if you want to wander at your own pace. A guided tour is available in the afternoons. The beautiful central spiral limestone staircase and ornate dome are the focal points of the building. On the main floor, is a renovated version of the State Library, completed with period books and furnishings of the 1850's. A meeting room on the ground floor, tells the governing history of Kentucky in photos. The main floor also housed the courts, but those rooms are currently closed to the public. Upstairs are two large room that housed the legislative branches of the state government. The rooms are in the process of renovation and hold some of the original furnishings. Outside on the Square, is a statue of William Goebel, the only Governor in the U.S. to be assassinated while in office. Goebel was shot outside the courthouse in 1900. Ramps and elevators are available inside, as well as restrooms. We found free street parking about a block away. I recommend a visit.

This National Historic Landmark served as Kentucky's Capitol from 1830 to 1910. This Greek Revival…read morestyle building features a unique self-supporting staircase and was the only pro-Union State Capitol occupied briefly by the Confederate Army during the Civil War. We only took photos of the exterior of the building as we had time constraints. It's a beautiful building on nicely landscaped lawns. The neighborhood is also interesting with museums and shops. Note, however, that many attractions and shops are closed on Mondays.
