My husband and I thought we would see if there were any tours available and there was nothing scheduled. Basically when you arrive some one will immediately take you on Tour which was nice. Tour Guide was very lovely and was very knowledgeable. I fell inlove with the ornate plaster moldings and medallions. The Oval Staircase is 1 of 2 in the US and is an amazing experience to go down from the top! 99% of all the Gorgeous Antiques are not original to the house owners, but are Extremely Fine rare pieces found in Museums and high end Galleries. Ward Hall is privately run and is in great need of donations for its Upkeep. It's still one of the Most Beautiful Mansions I've ever visited and I highly recommend touring. This piece is one of many small to medium sized sidewalk sculptures within easy walking distance of historic downtown Frankfort. This sculpture sticks out because it is legit a large bronze foot that is just hanging out on the sidewalks of Frankfort. I half way expected this to be a prop piece for a nearby boot store or foot doctor. But just another unique public art piece for the area. Overall a fun and interesting piece of public art and the family and I enjoyed walking the area to discover these little sidewalk sculptures.

It's the great state of Kentucky, and here we stand at the capital building…read more It's closed for renovations until 2029. The latest news on the old capital is it's unsafe. It needs a revamp. Modernization. It's getting a 291 million dollar renovation project to make it even grander. If you did not know Frankfurt is the capital of Kentucky. It's two competing cities of Lexington and Louisville negotiate a neural point. The city of Frankfurt has seen so many changes to its state capital's. A few ended by fire . One was too small. Finally the last one built in 1910, is still standing today. It's under construction but will be even grander than before. On the capital grounds make sure and see the property and all the gardens. The rose gardens on the property are very beautiful. They have a clock made of flowers and other flora of the area. The old state annex is where government business is handled. The governor's mansion is located close and is being used in addition. Come and see what's happening in your community and government today.

On one, "Earliest surviving stone house in city. Built before 1840, it is constructed of patterned river limestone with jack arches over windows and doors. The builder, John Hampton, was a tavern owner and operator in the county by 1818. His licenses extended into the 1820s. Several members of his family owned and operated taverns. Presented by Mrs. Fred W. Burch." And on the other, "Early Stone House - This house, built by John Hampton, was later the home of Col. Mason H. P. Williams, Franklin County sheriff. He entertained Judge John M. Elliott of Ky. Court of Appeals in this house the night before the judge's assassination across street at the Capital Hotel, March 26, 1879. The mansion officially opened with a large party on January 20, 1914, 96 yrs ago tomorrow. The mansion has 25 rooms, including 2 dining rooms, a grand ballroom, a commercial size kitchen, sunroom, and private living quarters for the Governor and his family The mansion is 80 ft wide and 200 ft long. Made of brick covered by limestone to match the Capitol building. Put on National Register of Historical Places in 1972. The first Governor's mansion is located downtown and built in 1798. There is a formal garden with fountain, very BEAUTIFUL in the spring and summer...definitely going back then to check it out. The current mansion took 2 yrs to build and cost $75,000 to build. Governor James B McCreary and his family were the first to live there. He was the 27th and 37th Governor of Kentucky. It is a tradition when the new Governor and family moves in to the home, they are greeted with a country ham, biscuits and a white cake...thus is a traditional meal for decades. The mansion was inspired with French influences by architect CC and EA Weber. Inspired the French chateaux, Petit Trianon, located at Versailles created by King Louis XV for his mistress, and later given to Queen Marie Antoinette by King Louis XVI.
