Daniel Boone's Burial Site, Frankfort Kentucky
Bruce K.

Of the great names which in our faces stare, The General Boon, back-woodsman of Kentucky, Was happiest amongst mortals any where; For killing nothing but a bear or buck, he Enjoyed the lonely vigorous, harmless days Of his old age in wilds of deepest maze. -From Lord Byron's poem, "Don Juan" (1822) Pioneer, explorer and frontiersman who is possibly one of the most famous folk heroes of the United States. Daniel Boone was also a businessman, soldier and politician who represented three different counties in the Virginia General Assembly following the American Revolutionary War. He is also responsible for exploring the western side of the Appalachian Mountains, which is today known as the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Boone died in 1820 and was originally buried at his home in Missouri. Though legend has it that because the grave was not marked (it wasn't practice in the cemetery for another ten years), it is possible that someone *else* was disinterred and moved here to Frankfort then reburied next to Rebecca Boone. The Kentucky Legislature appropriated two thousand dollars in 1860 for the erection of the monument over the grave of Daniel Boone in Frankfort. The monument at Boone's grave site today was built by John Haley in 1860. In 1862 four marble panels were added depicting scenes from Daniel and Rebecca's lives. The panels were vandalized during the American Civil War and restored in 1906. Only one of the original panels still exists. Stop by and pay your respects to this great American, then stop to enjoy the view of Frankfort from here. [Review 13568 overall, 887 of 2020.]

Saw this spot while searching Frankfort on Google maps. We stopped on our way to the capital and glad we did. The way to the grave had alot of amazing headstones and monuments. It was exciting to discuss Daniel.Boone with the kids and wife. The view of the capital from the the grave is a unexpected benefit. If you got time, spend it walking and remembering all the other people in the graveyard. Not sure how you can't give this place 5 stars

Please, pay your respect to Daniel! This is a beautiful cemetery that overlooks the state Capitol and Kentucky river. A breathtaking view and lots of info posted about the contribution Boone made to Kentucky life and culture!

The grave itself sits behind a small fence and sits right on top of a hill/cliff that offers wonderful views of the city.

Upon meeting with them to select the urn and other memorial pieces, we decided to get yellow roses which would hold our mother's ashes. Yellow roses were her favorite so we felt they were a beautiful way to keep her close to us. The lady helping us showed us the red rose which they have on display in their Celebration of Life building. She said this rose was no longer available but stated that another company they use offered a rose which was similar. Sadly, upon receiving them we were shocked to find that not only were they the wrong color (we ordered yellow and received a strange cream color) they were extremely different than the one they keep on display. The only thing similar about the two is that they are both flowers but ours look nothing like roses. Being that they were SO different and the wrong color, we contacted the woman who had helped us that day asking for assistance. Ultimately, she offered no real resolution other than a partial refund from the company that made the flowers, due to the wrong color being sent. She accepted no responsibility for selling us an item that was nowhere close to being similar to what they have on display, even though she assured us it was. Funny enough, she recently admitted she had actually never seen the item she sold us. Now we are stuck with strange, ugly "flowers" that we would have never ordered had we seen and are in no way a reflection of our mother. Every time we see them we are reminded of the poor treatment we received from the lady at CLC. While in years past, I would have recommended CLC to friends and family but I will no longer do that. I understand that mistakes happen but when a staff member is the cause of such mistake, they should accept responsibility and make it right. We in no way expected a refund but it would have been nice for them to provide us with the product we thought we were buying. In the future, I hope they learn that it's a bad idea to suggest items that they have never even seen. Losing our mom has been hard enough and now it feels worse.

I should mention that my father passed away on Thanksgiving around 4:00AM, and Grant and Tony were at the house probably 30 minutes after receiving the call, despite the holiday and early hour. Working within the industry, I was impressed with the standard of care Johnson's provided to my dad, and all of the little, extra things they did to show their compassion, to make our time of grief easier, and how they aided in my fathers funeral mass and celebration of life to make it a memorable, healing event. Grant was an exemplary professional, always checking with the family and working with us to ensure that everything was okay, explaining all of our options, guiding us through the process, and making sure everything was to our preference. Their prices were extremely reasonable too for the standard of care provided. I cannot thank Johnson's enough for all they did for us during our time of grief and need, and I would highly recommend them to anyone in need of their services.
