It's been around that long because the food and the prices are that good. I've stopped by here multiple times and always get the Old Fashioned Center Street Special on rye, medium (not lean) with extra meat. I've never been disappointed with this deli, the food is always delicious and tasty, the cuts of meat are fantastic, thick and juicy, and the fries are golden and crisp. It's a good deal for a good portion of food. The service is always friendly, with servers who are attentive, chatty and friendly. My only comment would be that because this Deli has been around for so long (as have I), I remember when I was little and the paint was fresh. But now it's been worn down and it's noticeable from the doorways to the chairs and tables. This staple of Thornhill is still delivering great food, but the restaurant itself needs some love and upkeep. A fresh coat of paint will go a long way. Even the washrooms (while very clean) have a smell to them. I believe it's time to give Centre Street Deli some love and freshen it up a bit for the younger generation.

They are called pelmenyi (in Russian), and they have quite a few varieties: Siberian, Georgian, to name just two. Delicious steamed (the same way I prepare my Chinese jiaozi, or Korean jjim mandu), but you can pan fry them afterwards too, if you're not watching your waistline. They have REAL pumpernickel breads, imported biscuits and chocolates from Europe, preserves and an excellent (clean) deli. counter, salamis, cheese, etc. Service is lukewarm, but I go in on occasion for my pelmenyi. Reasonable prices.
