Theobald Wolfe Tone was one of the founding members of the United Irishmen, is regarded as the father of Irish republicanism and the leader of the 1798 Irish Rebellion.
"Our independence must be had at all hazards. If the men of property will not support us, they must fall. We can support ourselves by the air of that numerous and respectable class of the community - the men of no property."
Sadly, he was captured, court-martialed, and convicted. He was hung and is now buried not far from his home in County Kildare. read more
